The results showed that the Problem Based Learning-based module was effectively used in the manuscript review course. This is evidenced by the progress of the average score from pretest to posttest, namely from 64.1034 to 73.5517. The minimum score in the pretest is 50.00, with the maximum score being 78.00. It is different with the posttest, the minimum score achieved by students is 60.00 and the maximum score is 85.00. Abstract

Abstract

This community service activity aims to introduce Javanese folk songs to students at the Indonesian School of Johor Bahru (SIJB) through interactive online and face-to-face storytelling. The online learning sessions were conducted via Zoom from October 6–21, 2024 (ten sessions) and face-to-face on October 22, 2024. The fairy tale titled “Kancil lan Pak Tani” was modified to include the song Gundhul gundhul Pacul, with the hope of strengthening understanding of cultural and moral values. Observations showed excellent student enthusiasm, the ability to sing the song in 10 sessions, and an increase in understanding of moral meanings and Javanese vocabulary. Partner teachers stated that this activity enriched cultural learning and supported plans for a performance at the “Wonderful Nusantara” event in Malaysia. These findings indicate that interactive storytelling-based cultural learning is an effective strategy in a cross-border context. Recommendations for further activities include the development of digital modules and training in other folk songs.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen the cultural identity of the Indonesian archipelago among Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia through storytelling training based on Javanese folk tales. The activity was conducted at the Indonesian School in Johor Bahru (SIJB) using a participatory, culture-literacy-based approach. The main media consisted of two storybooks adapted from the Si Kancil Nyolong Timun storybook, compiled in two languages (Javanese and Indonesian) and featuring contextual illustrations. Through interactive storytelling training, cultural value discussions, and teacher mentoring, this activity showed a significant increase in students' cultural knowledge, ability to understand moral values, and pride in their native culture. This article shows that fairy tales are an effective medium for character education and cultural preservation within the Indonesian diaspora.

Abstract

This study examines the factors behind the imposition of Military Emergency Status in Aceh between 1998 and 2005, a period marked by prolonged armed conflict between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement. The article aims to explain why the state ultimately resorted to military emergency rule by analyzing the interaction of geographic, economic, and political conditions that shaped the conflict. Using a qualitative library-based research design, the study relies on historical analysis of books, academic articles, official regulations, and credible reports related to the Aceh conflict. The collected materials are critically reviewed, categorized, and interpreted to reconstruct the policy context and conflict dynamics leading to the declaration of military emergency. The findings show that Aceh’s strategic geography, particularly in Aceh Timur and surrounding areas, facilitated mobility, logistical access, and cross-regional connections that strengthened armed resistance. Economically, despite abundant natural resources, local communities experienced marginalization, limited participation in resource management, and persistent inequality, which intensified social grievances. Politically, unresolved human rights violations during the previous Military Operations Area period, weak law enforcement, and declining public trust in civilian governance contributed to growing support for the Free Aceh Movement. The failure of peace negotiations and the escalation of violence further reinforced the state’s preference for a security-based approach. In conclusion, the study argues that the Military Emergency Status in Aceh was not a sudden policy choice but the result of accumulated geographic vulnerabilities, economic injustice, and political dissatisfaction. These findings highlight the importance of addressing structural inequalities and political accountability as essential lessons for conflict resolution and sustainable peacebuilding in post-conflict regions.
