Abstract

Hyperbilirubinemia, a common illness in newborns that can lead to hospital readmission, has been treated with blue light phototherapy. This treatment, either on its own or in combination with probiotics, has shown fast and significant decreases in bilirubin levels in the blood, helping to speed up the fading of jaundice. This study aims to examine the effects of combining phototherapy with probiotics containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, Streptococcus thermophilus, and Bifidobacterium longum on newborns with hyperbilirubinemia. The study was conducted at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital (RSI Sultan Agung), Semarang, using a randomized controlled trial design. It included newborns who were hospitalized between August and November 2022. The control group was administered phototherapy, whereas the treatment group received both phototherapy and probiotics for 7 days. SPSS software analysis demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in average levels of total and indirect bilirubin in the intervention group (6.50 mg/dl and 7.20 mg/dl) compared to the control group (6.70 mg/dl and 7.48 mg/dl). These findings highlight the potential effectiveness of the combined approach in controlling hyperbilirubinemia. The study proposes using probiotics as a safe additional treatment for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, showing that it is well-tolerated and safe for the participants. Although the combination of probiotics and phototherapy did not show a significant difference compared to phototherapy alone, it did result in a faster average decrease in hyperbilirubinemia. This could reduce the necessity for hospital readmissions to manage this condition. The findings underscore the potential of probiotics as a helpful supplement to established treatment methods for newborn hyperbilirubinemia.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of applying Emotional intelligence reinforcement to changes in stunting prevention behavior at the Kedung 2 Health Center, Jepara. This study employed a cross-sectional approach and data from participants at the Kedung 2 Public Health Center in Jepara. Public Health Center, Jepara. Participants were taken by purposive sampling according to predetermined maternal criteria, and 82 participants were obtained. Quasi-experimental research methods with two groups of emotional intelligence strengthening design, pre-intervention and post-intervention. Data collection used a questionnaire to measure the emotional intelligence of respondents and stunting prevention behavior. The data were then analyzed using the SPSS program. The correlation value shows that there is a strong relationship between the strengthening of emotional intelligence interventions and changes in maternal stunting prevention behavior, with a correlation value of 0.905 and a significance value of less than 0.001. The results of the T-test also showed significant behavioral changes in stunting prevention behavior before and after the application of strengthening emotional intelligence, with a significance value of 0.008. Strengthening emotional intelligence has a strong positive correlation with stunting prevention behavior, and the results of the T-test show that there is a significant effect on the results of stunting prevention behavior between before and after strengthening emotional intelligence. As a result, strengthening maternal emotional intelligence should be a priority to prevent stunting.

Abstract

A tumour is an abnormal mass of tissue that does not contain cysts or fluid. According to the Global Cancer Statistics, approximately 275,000 children worldwide were diagnosed with cancer in 2022. Among pediatric solid tumours, the most common types include neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, retinoblastoma, osteosarcoma, and Ewing sarcoma. This study aims to analyse the prevalence and characteristics of solid tumours in children treated at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital in Semarang. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, utilising retrospective data from medical records. The study population comprised pediatric inpatients and outpatients aged 0 to 17 years who underwent pathological or radiological examinations between 2018 and 2024. Data analysed included demographic details (age, gender), presenting symptoms, and blood test results. The study identified 22 pediatric patients with solid tumours, with Rhabdomyosarcoma and Teratoma being the most common types. The gender distribution was evenly split between males and females. Notably, 73% of the patients showed recovery. Common presenting symptoms included palpable lumps (45%) and pain (41%). Blood tests revealed that haemoglobin levels in children aged 2-9 years were below the usual lower limit (8.21 ± 4.88 g/dL). White blood cell counts in the same age group were abnormal, averaging 11.20 ± 8.36  103/µL. Platelet counts across the age span of 1 month to 17 years were elevated, with a mean of 412.33 ± 224.11 103/µL. In conclusion, the supporting laboratory examinations frequently indicated anaemia, leukocytosis, and thrombocytosis among pediatric tumour patients. These findings underscore the importance of comprehensive diagnostic assessments in managing pediatric solid tumours.

Abstract

Background: The digital era has markedly increased adolescents’ exposure to explicit content, including pornography, raising significant concerns regarding its impact on sexual and reproductive health. This is particularly critical among female adolescents in Indonesia, where access to comprehensive sexual education remains limited. Objective: This study aims to examine the exposure of female adolescents to pornographic content, with a focus on patterns of media consumption and their implications for reproductive health. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 58 female adolescents aged 13 to 18 years in Karanganyar, Indonesia. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistical methods to identify patterns of media usage and exposure to pornography. Results: The findings indicated that the internet and handheld devices were the predominant sources of media consumption (96.6%), significantly contributing to exposure to pornographic material (86.2% and 96.6%, respectively). Television and print media also played contributory roles, particularly through soap operas and Western films. Exposure to pornography was associated with limited awareness of reproductive health, especially among younger participants. The exposure was further linked to distorted perceptions of sexual behavior, negative body image, and potential psychological consequences such as anxiety and low self-esteem. Conclusion: This study highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions to enhance critical media literacy and provide comprehensive sexual education for adolescents. Addressing these issues is essential to mitigate the adverse effects of pornography exposure on reproductive health, while taking into account cultural and contextual factors. Future research should investigate the longitudinal effects and gender-specific outcomes to inform the development of tailored preventive strategies.
