Abstract

Anxiety has a big role in affecting students' performance in learning English, especially in speaking class. This study aimed to answer three questions: (1) the anxiety level the EFL students got in a speaking class, (2) some factors influence it, and (3) some strategies that can be used to minimize the level of students’ anxiety. This research used a qualitative approach by adopting a questionnaire as an instrument. The participants of this study were 113 students; 68.1% female and 31.9% male students; from 4 different universities in Indonesia from different departments (an English and non-English departments). The results of this study showed that the student’s level of anxiety was still high which was affected by internal and external factors. Those factors tended to decide the level of their anxiety. In addition, this study also showed some suggestions that can be used as strategies to minimize the level of the student’s anxiety.

Abstract

This groundbreaking research endeavors to elevate participants' learning competence through the innovative integration of digital technology as a pedagogical medium. Pioneering a novel approach, this study seeks to gauge the efficacy of digital-based technology in enhancing English writing proficiency and participants' perceptions of its utility on the Storyboard That platform. Adopting a quantitative methodology, data is meticulously collected from experimental and control groups comprising nursing participants. Leveraging a synergistic blend of digital technology and project-based learning (PjBL), the research yields noteworthy gains in both knowledge and attitudes, with N-gain scores of 0.53 and 0.52, respectively. While initial trial results place competence and integration in the medium category, there exists a compelling imperative for further refinement and enhancement. The findings underscore the transformative potential of digital technology in augmenting writing skills and platform utilization, laying the groundwork for future innovations in English language education. By advocating for the seamless integration of digital tools like Storyboard That into the curriculum, this research not only fosters creativity and proficiency in English writing but also cultivates a dynamic learning environment conducive to holistic skill development. Ultimately, this study serves as a clarion call for educators to embrace the transformative power of digital technology in fostering English language proficiency and nurturing a generation of digitally literate and proficient learners poised to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan media video animasi berbasis Canva yang dirancang untuk menstimulus kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Media video animasi ini diharapkan untuk memudahkan pengajaran matematika pada siswa Sekolah Dasar serta dapat menstimulus kemampuan komunikasi matematis melalui media video animasi yang dibuat berdasarkan model pengembangan ADDIE. Metode yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dan kuesioner yang dibagikan pada subjek uji dan menjadi acuan untuk pengembangan media sesuai tahapan yang menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data validasi ahli, ahli materi memperoleh skor rata-rata 80 (valid), dan ahli media memperoleh skor rata-rata 92 (sangat valid). Media video animasi juga memenuhi kriteria kepraktisan berdasarkan hasil angket respon siswa, dengan skor rata-rata 89,24% dari skor maksimum 100. Selain itu, media video animasi yang dikembangkan terbukti efektif. Hal ini terlihat dari perbedaan signifikan antara skor pretest dan posttest, skor rata-rata posttest lebih tinggi dibandingkan skor rata-rata pretest, menunjukkan adanya peningkatan dalam kategori sedang. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa media video animasi berbasis Canva valid, praktis dan efektif sehingga dapat dinyatakan layak digunakan.

Abstract

This research is a Research & Development which aims at investigating the development of instructional materials based on local wisdom. The materials developed were designed from the result of the students’ need analysis and teacher specialist’ interview at STKIP Muhammadiyah Pagaralam in Introduction to Literature subject and validated by experts. The research data were collected from student’s questionnaire, specialist’s interview and experts’ validation. Regarding the data of the students’ questionnaire which consisted of 35 students, it was found that most of the students were interested in literature but they found problems such as; the language of the texts, unfamiliar literary texts, difficult in appreciating the texts and lack of skill in writing literary text. However, according to them local wisdom was very important to be developed beside to preserve and enrich students’ knowledge about the culture of the local area also to help students comprehend the materials as well.  Besides, students also needed bigger text and more work sheets in the modul. This finding was also in line with the lecturer specialist’s interview which was described qualitatively in which it explained that local wisdom can be such a good alternative literary materials in teaching learning process to help students comprehend the texts used. Based on expert validation, local wisdom materials also gave an extra point in the materials developed. Expert validation stated that from the whole aspects of validation, the development of the materials met very good criteria and met the students’ need.

Abstract

This Community Service activity aims to improve digital literacy understanding and skills among teachers at SD Aisyiyah 1 Kauman, Pagar Alam. Based on initial observations, it was found that most teachers had not yet optimally understood the use of digital technology in the learning process. Therefore, this training was designed using a participatory approach, actively involving teachers in each stage of the activity, including interactive lectures, workshops, and group discussions. The results of the training showed a significant improvement in the teachers’ understanding of digital literacy concepts, mastery of educational applications, and ability to design and implement technology-based learning. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step toward building a culture of digital learning in elementary schools and supporting educational transformation that is adaptive to the developments of the modern era.

Abstract

Figurative language is a way of beautifying certain expressions by using different words which have different meanings from their literal meanings. This study examines the use of metaphorical expressions in Coldplay's song lyrics. The data source were taken from ten songs of Coldplay’s various albums. The goal of this study is to identify the most common form of metaphorical language used in Coldplay’s song lyrics. The qualitative descriptive method was employed in this study. The results of this research show that the total number of figurative language expressions used in Coldplay’s song lyrics were 52 expressions. There were 12 metaphor, 11 personification, 8 hyperbole, 8 symbol, 7 synecdoche and 6 simile. The most dominant type of figurative language expression found in this study was metaphor. Therefore, it is important that teachers can bring this types of figurative language in their classrooms in order for students to get used to using and understand them.

Abstract

Natural resources are something that can be used for various interests and needs of human life in order to live a more prosperous life around our natural environment. Utilization of a resource is determined based on the use of these resources for humans themselves. Therefore, the more useful a natural resource is, the more valuable it will be. Utilizing existing natural resources is a form of empowerment based on local potentials that strongly supports community development. Good natural resources management can improve the welfare of local communities. The implementation of community service activities (PKM) was carried out by using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method and the approach method with related parties, especially the Pagar Alam City Tourism Office. In addition, the collection of data on the potentials and natural resources in Pagar Alam is also carried out through a database search at the Tourism Office. From the results of the data collection obtained, it can be concluded that the empowerment of natural resources in Pagar Alam City can help the community's economic growth. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Pagar Alam City, Pagar Alam City's economic growth in 2021 grew by 4.39%. The highest growth was achieved by the accommodation and food and drink provision sectors at 8.83%. This is an indication of the empowerment of existing natural resources. Pagar Alam with its potentials can be further developed into an international standard tourist village by implementing the empowerments given.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini melakukan penerapan pelatihan pembelajaran berbasis game pada pendidikan tinggi dengan fokus meningkatkan keterlibatan dan motivasi mahasiswa. Melibatkan peserta dan pelaksana dari lima perguruan tinggi di Jambi, Sumatera Barat, Maluku, Sumatera Selatan, dan Kalimantan Timur, kegiatan ini dilaksanakan secara daring melalui Zoom Cloud Meeting. Hasilnya mencakup rancangan inovatif pelatihan pembelajaran berbasis game oleh mahasiswa dari berbagai provinsi, yang menunjukkan kreativitas dan pemahaman mendalam terhadap potensi teknologi dalam pendidikan tinggi. Kolaborasi lintas wilayah ini tidak hanya memperkuat jaringan mahasiswa, tetapi juga menghasilkan ide-ide yang dapat berkontribusi pada pengembangan sistem pendidikan tinggi yang lebih dinamis dan relevan.
