Abstract

Karyawan akan melewati beberapa tahapan untuk mencapai kesuksesan karir. Karyawan pada tahap middle level career adalah mereka yang telah memiliki pengalaman dan diharapkan telah melakukan evaluasi terhadap pencapaian karirnya. Setelah melakukan evaluasi, karyawan akan lebih mengetahui sejauh mana kesuksesan karir yang telah dicapainya. Kesuksesan karir mengandung dua makna, yaitu kesuksesan karir secara objektif dan subjektif. Dalam perjalanan karir karyawan, orientasi karir merupakan indikator yang penting untuk mencapai kesuksesan karir. Terdapat lima tipe orientasi karir yang memiliki karakteristik berbeda yaitu, getting high, getting balanced, getting secure, getting free, dan getting ahead. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif untuk melihat perbedaan kesuksesan karir subjektif berdasarkan tipe orientasi karir pada karyawan middle level career. Subjek penelitian diperoleh dengan menggunakan incidental sampling terhadap sebanyak 205 orang karyawan middle level career yang bekerja di daerah Jakarta. Data penelitian diolah dengan menggunakan teknik statistik parametrik one way anova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan kesuksesan karir subjektif yang signifikan berdasarkan tipe orientasi karir (F = 3.942; p = 0.004 < 0.05). Karyawan dengan tipe orientasi getting ahead memiliki kesuksesan karir subjektif yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan karyawan dengan tipe orientasi karir lainnya. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dimanfaatkan oleh perusahaan sebagai bahan pertimbangan dalam proses seleksi dan promosi karyawan yang sesuai dengan orientasi karirnya.

Abstract

Inability to deal efficiently with lectures leads students vulnerable to academic burnout. Burnout contributes to the high dropout rate among students, and this phenomenon has occurred on several universities in Indonesia. To overcome these problems, students should generate the feelings, attitudes and positive attitude towards the academic demands, or known as school engagement. School engagement is a predictor of students’ dropout rate. This study aims to analyze the dropout problem in many private universities in Jakarta by examining the psychological variables: school engagement, academic self-efficacy, and academic burnout. Two hundred and eight students from several private universities in Jakarta participated and fulfilled three questionnaires: school engagement, academic self-efficacy, and academic burnout that have been modified to suit the college setting. The results of this study indicate that the three variables are significantly correlated. Academic burnout is negatively correlated with academic self-efficacy and school engagement. Thus, increased academic self-efficacy and school engagement play a role in reducing student academic burnout. Furthermore, academic self-efficacy and school engagement show a positive correlation, which means, the increase of school-engagement on students can predict an increase in their academic self-efficacy. The findings in this study can be used as a reference in student academic counseling to reduce the dropout rate of students.

Abstract

Emerging adulthood is a developmental period during which university students face increasing academic and career-related responsibilities. These demands may contribute to uncertainty and reduced psychological well-being. This study examined the role of positive career discrepancy, defined as perceiving career progress as exceeding one’s goals, in predicting psychological well-being among university students, as well as the mediating role of academic self-efficacy. Participants were 159 undergraduate students (aged 18–25 years; M = 21.28, SD = 1.44) from public and private universities in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia, recruited through accidental sampling. Data were collected using the College Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire–Revised (CSSWQ-R), the Positive Career Goal Discrepancy Scale (PCGDS), and the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (ASE). Simple mediation analysis showed that positive career discrepancy was positively associated with psychological well-being both directly (β = .18, p = .002) and indirectly through academic self-efficacy (β = .32, p < .001). These findings suggest that positive evaluations of career progress may enhance students’ psychological well-being by strengthening their academic self-efficacy. The study highlights the importance of fostering positive career perceptions and self-efficacy to support student well-being in higher education. Emerging adulthood merupakan periode perkembangan ketika mahasiswa menghadapi tuntutan akademik dan tanggung jawab karier yang semakin besar. Kondisi tersebut dapat menimbulkan ketidakpastian dan berdampak pada kesejahteraan psikologis. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji peran diskrepansi karier positif, yaitu persepsi bahwa kemajuan karier telah melampaui target yang ditetapkan, dalam memprediksi kesejahteraan psikologis mahasiswa serta peran mediasi efikasi diri akademik. Partisipan penelitian adalah 159 mahasiswa sarjana berusia 18–25 tahun (M = 21.28, SD = 1.44) dari perguruan tinggi negeri dan swasta di Jabodetabek yang direkrut menggunakan teknik accidental sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan College Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire–Revised (CSSWQ-R), Positive Career Goal Discrepancy Scale (PCGDS), dan Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (ASE). Hasil analisis mediasi sederhana menunjukkan bahwa diskrepansi karier positif berhubungan secara positif dengan kesejahteraan psikologis, baik secara langsung (β = .18, p = .002) maupun secara tidak langsung melalui efikasi diri akademik (β = .32, p < .001). Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa persepsi positif terhadap kemajuan karier dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan psikologis mahasiswa melalui penguatan efikasi diri akademik. Hasil penelitian menegaskan pentingnya pengembangan persepsi karier yang positif dan efikasi diri dalam mendukung kesejahteraan mahasiswa di lingkungan pendidikan tinggi.
