Abstract

This study explores the media's role in shaping public perception of sexual violence in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia. Using Sara Mills’ discourse analysis, this research examines how the positions of the subject (perpetrator) and object (victim) are constructed in news narratives, with a focus on Detik.com’s reporting. The findings indicate that media narratives significantly influence public attitudes by framing the kyai (Islamic scholar) as a figure of authority within a patriarchal structure, while victims—often students—are placed in a vulnerable position. The study highlights how power dynamics and gender relations affect the reporting of sexual violence, influencing social responses and policy discussions. Furthermore, this research underscores the importance of integrating gender education into the pesantren curriculum to foster awareness and prevent future occurrences. By deconstructing media narratives, this study contributes to a broader understanding of how discourse shapes societal views on sexual violence in religious institutions.

Abstract

Terjemahan Qur’an A Reformist Translation masih berada pada standar ekuivalensi dalam proses penerjemahannya. Hal tersebut bisa dilihat perbandingan variasi antara terjemahan Qur’an A Reformist Translation dengan versi terhemahan Yusuf Ali dan versi Kemenag yakni 3:4:0. Akan tetapi, yang membedakan antara terjemahan Qur’an A Reformist Translation dengan versi-versi yang lain adalah pilihan makna yang dipakai yakni cenderung pada pemakaian akar kata dan lebih mengedepankan pada kesetaraan gender (gender equality). Kata Kunci: Al-Qur’an, Gender, Terjemah

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the translation techniques applied in the English translation of an Arabic short story entitled “The Prophet Muhammad and the Angel Gabriel”, as well as to imply the translation ideology in the target language text. The audience of Islamic short story has expanded alongside the growth of the religion’s communities in the world, which is why studying translation techniques in translating Arabic texts into English – the most well-known lingua franca – is substantial. The researcher used Molina and Albir’s translation technique classification. The article reveals that from the 60 techniques found in the target text, the techniques that focus on structure adjustment such as transposition and linguistic compression are the most frequently used, while the techniques that focus on lexical meaning adjustment are significantly fewer. This is also due to the source text that do not contain notably complicated sentences or implicit messages. The structure adjustment techniques make the target text sound more natural and readable implying that the ideology of the translation process is domestication.

Abstract

There were various manuscripts spread in the archipelago. Some of the manuscripts are the source of history, literature, and religious principle, and some of them are source of medical healing as ancestral heritage. Actually, the using of traditional healing and medicines at the first is a hereditary tradition transmitted orally from one generation to the next generation. However, this traditional healing is still existed. There are some studies studied about Islam, literature, and local custom manuscripts, but studying on traditional healing and medicines manuscripts is very lack. Even though, some of the traditional healing and medicines still existed in the modern life. By using philological approach and historical approach, this research will conduct the traditional healing and medicine which are found in Mujarrabat Jawan. These approaches will cover the description of traditional healing and medicines in the manuscript and show how it practiced in everyday life. This study shows that there are some common diseases that affect people in the archipelago such as fever, toothache and sore eyes (bḗlḗk). This manuscript shows that traditional medicine is carried out in two ways. First, by using traditional ingredients such as shallots to treat burns. Second, by using Holy Qur’an readings taken from same verses in the Qur’an. This healing can be seen in the healing of toothache by reading surah al-An’am.
