Abstract

The  spread  and  development  of  Islam  in  the  Indonesia  not  only  brought Islam together, but also brought Islamic culture in the form of literature. The development  in teaching Islamiccultural  tradition  is  important  in  the process of Islamization.  Many  books  were  translated,  composed  or  adapted  to  many languages in the archipelago. The books are compiled in what is known as sastra kitab  (literature  of  Islamic  theology).  Its  two  versions,  the  Masail  Sayyidi 'Abdullah bin Salam  lin Nabi  in  the Arabic version or  Seribu Masa?il  in Malay version,  are  still  preserved.  Both  of  these  texts  are  part  of  the  process  of translation  from  Arabic  texts  into  Malay  text  which  have  variations  either  in structure  linguistic  or meaning. This  paper  examines  the  variations  occurring  in process of translation between Arabic text and Malay text, and how the variations are manifested  in  these  two  texts. This  research  is  important because  it  looks at Sirah nabawiyah (history of  the prophet)  that documents both written and verbal teachings  of  Islam.  In  addition,  this  study  contains  the  theological  values  and dialogue between Muslims and non-Muslims. By using George Steiner?s  theory, this study tries to examine the difficulties and the paradoxes created by translation from  one  language  to  another. This  study  demonstrates  that  the  final  translation between Mas??il  Sayyidi  ?Abdull?h  Bin  Sal?m  li-Nab?  text  and  Seribu Masa'il have variations both in the structure of linguistics and meanings.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the translation techniques applied in the English translation of an Arabic short story entitled “The Prophet Muhammad and the Angel Gabriel”, as well as to imply the translation ideology in the target language text. The audience of Islamic short story has expanded alongside the growth of the religion’s communities in the world, which is why studying translation techniques in translating Arabic texts into English – the most well-known lingua franca – is substantial. The researcher used Molina and Albir’s translation technique classification. The article reveals that from the 41 techniques found in the target text, the techniques that focus on structure adjustment such as transposition and linguistic compression are the most frequently used, while the techniques that focus on lexical meaning adjustment are significantly fewer. This is also due to the source text that do not contain notably complicated sentences or implicit messages. The structure adjustment techniques make the target text sound more natural and readable implying that the ideology of the translation process is domestication.

Abstract

Many religious-based schools and universities in Indonesia have widely implemented Arabic language textbooks as a learning material. However, Arabic is often considered challenging to learn due to its distinct linguistic origin from the Indonesian language. Therefore, there is a need for effective methods to facilitate students in learning Arabic just as they learn Indonesian. Surprisingly, a covert approach to learning Indonesian is also applied to studying Arabic. There are influential Arabic language textbooks that teach Indonesian grammar implicitly. This research aims to analyze the presence of curriculum of Indonesian language literacy in Arabic language textbooks, mainly for grades VII, VIII, and IX in Indonesian Islamic Junior High Schools (Madrasah Tsanawiyah or MTs). These textbooks were published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive approach, which involves content analysis of each chapter in these three books. The research findings reveal a significant amount of Indonesian language literacy content in Arabic textbooks. This content appears as explanations that serve as material clarification for students. Notably, the Indonesian language explanations account for 10% of the grade VII textbooks and 2% of the grade VIII and IX textbooks. Three forms of Indonesian language literacy content were successfully identified: language for comprehension introduction, comparison, and grammar contextualization.

Abstract

Abstract: YouTube serves as a media platform that offers not only knowledge and education but also a means for sharing religious content. However, not all religious content on YouTube conveys messages of religious moderation. There is a substantial amount of content that promotes rigidity and violence in understanding religion, potentially influencing individuals' religious attitudes. This study aims to explore religious moderation within the da'wah content of ustadz or kyai on Youtube. This qualitative research employs Van Dijk's discourse analysis approach. The study reveals that the da'wah content by Hanan Attaki, Adi Hidayat, Khalid Basamalah, and Gus Miftah predominantly incorporates pillars of thought by connecting the meanings of verses, hadiths, or historical contexts. The pillars of action are exemplified through acts of tolerance and wisdom in dealing with differences. The implementation of these pillars of religious moderation in their da'wah content is primarily confined to national commitment and the strengthening of tolerance.
