Abstract

A number of studies have investigated the EFL students’ speaking performance, however, little is known about the mental processes behind the L2 speech production, meanwhile understanding their route of thought could be instrumental in comprehending key factors of their success as well as their failure. The study is expected to reveal some information about the thinking process undertaken by the EFL learners' oral performance in various social settings. The participants of the study were the first-year pre-service students from a state university in Indonesia. Data of the study were elicited through retrospective verbal reports, interviews, and questionnaires based on the role-play of eight scenarios of complaining performance. Through qualitative data analysis, a framework by Levelt (1999) was used to guide the analysis of speech production. The findings revealed that L2 speech production follow several phases, namely, macroplanning, microplanning, grammatical encoding, morphophonological encoding, phonetic encoding, articulation, and monitoring. It seems that L2 speech production is similar to L2 speech production. In addition, it was revealed that the flow of speech processing was not determined by the level of proficiency alone, as a formal speech situation was reported took more thoughtful consideration than a casual one which could likely run fast and automatically.

Abstract

Investigating thinking processes during classroom group presentations can help identify their needs for appropriate guidance on how to deliver a presentation. Therefore, this study investigates the students’ thinking processes during the pre-presentation, presentation, and post-presentation stages in a course conducted in Bahasa Indonesia. Within this context, the participants were asked to describe their thinking processes. The research employed a qualitative descriptive design and involved ten student participants—two males and eight females. Presentations were conducted in one semester, whereas data collection of students’ thinking processes taking place at the end. The instruments used included observations, closed-ended questions, and open-ended questions. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Triangulation of different data sources was applied to ensure data validity. The findings identified three main stages of thinking: pre-presentation, during-presentation, and post-presentation that are consistent with Flavel (1979) and Zimmerman (2000) theories. Within each stage, the students reported experiencing complex thoughts while also facing challenges related to cognition, psychological factors, and social interaction. Based on the findings, future studies are recommended to explore topics such as the effectiveness of classroom group presentation training and the development of communication skills through presentations.

Abstract

A persistent and abnormal increase in blood pressure in the arteries is known as hypertension (HT. This research aims to assess the consumption of antihypertension at the Puskesmas Central Cimahi. Non-analytical descriptive methods were used in this investigation. Retrospective data was collected by accessing patient prescriptions and medical record data. Fifty-six patient samples in this study met the inclusion requirements. Quantitative and qualitative methods are used to evaluate rationality. Quantitative data analysis is processed to determine the number of patients, gender, age, and type of drug classification. Qualitative data analysis is processed to evaluate the appropiate of the indication, drug, patient and dose. Based on the research results, 52 people suffered from stage 1 hypertension, and four patients suffered from stage 2 hypertension. Amlodipine monotherapy was the most frequently prescribed drug, namely 92%. While the combination of amlodipine, captropil, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide amounted to 4%. The rationality of treating hypertensive patients who meet the right indications, the right drug, the right patient and the right dose is 100%. It can be concluded that the evaluation and use of hypertension medication at the Puskesmas Central Cimahi as a whole meets the criteria for rational treatment.
