Abstract

ABSTRACT A study on anatomical structure of the vegetative’s   organ was taken on Acanthus spp. based on differents leaf morphological. The samples was taken from Mangguang’s Mangrove, Pariman that has found seven leaves morphology variation of Acanthus spp. and semi permanent anatomy preparation was made in Plant Structure and Development laboratory of Andalas University. The purpose of this research was to describe anatomical structure of roots, steams, and leaves of Acanthus spp. The result has shown anatomical structure of roots, steams, and leaves from seven leaves variation of Acanthus spp. The transverse section of Acanthus  spp.  roots  composed  of  epidermis,  cortex,  aerenchyma,  and  stele (xylem and phloem with fibers), but last variation has periderm. The transverse section of all variation Acanthus spp. steams composed of epidermis, cortex, collenchyma, clorenchyma, parenchyma, endodermis, phloem’s fibers, vascular bundles (xylem and phloem) with collateral type, and empulur parenchyma. The tranverse section of Acanthus spp. leaves composed of cuticle, epidermis, salt glands, one until two layers hypodermis, palisade, spongy, and stomata. The paradermal section of all leaves variation Acanthus spp. shown stomata with diacytic type. That conclusion has shown similarly of anatomical structure altrought has differents leaf morphology.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The background of this research was the student’s of class VIII SMPN 2 Ampek Angkek low biology test outcome, due to the less motivated student’s. The teachers tended to give long explanation, it led into the teachers center process in teaching and learning. The students were less confident for questions and answer. The purpose of the research was to find out the comparison of students biology test result by using active learning strategy type everyone is a teacher here and type the power of two to the class VIII students of SMPN 2 Ampek Angkek. The research has been done in class VIII on August 2013. This type of research was experimental research by randomized control group posttest only design. The population of this research were all students of class VIII SMPN 2 Ampek Angkek listed in the academic year 2013/2014. Test used was an objective test. The technique of data analysis was t test. Based on the data analysis result, it was found that both of the sample classes were normal distribution and homogeny. The result of hypothesis test was t score 1,61 meanwhile t table 1,68, it indicates that t score < t table, so the hypothesis of this research was accepted H0, it can be concluded that there was no difference between the type of the active learning strategy everyone is a teacher here and the power of two toward the students tes result.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is base on observation in the SMPN 8 Solok Selatan. Teaching materials such as handout has never been used at this school. The teacher used teaching materials such as textbooks and student activity sheets (LKS) to support the learning process . But they were less attractive, especially in the human respiratory system material. The teaching material pictures were not complete and colorless. Thus necessary to develop a handout with appear of the magazine. Aims the research to know validity and practicalities handout with appear of the magazine on the human respiratory system material . This research was a development with 4D procedural model, which was done in STKIP PGRI Sumatera barat  and SMPN 8 Solok Selatan class VIII semester 1 of academic year 2012/2013. The study subjects were 6 validators, and to test the practicalities done by 3 teachers and 21 students. The data of this study was primary data, then analyzed with descriptive analysis. Results of data analysis showed that the average value of the validity handout with appear of the magazine was 84,64% and valid category. Result Analysis of the practicalities handout with appear of the magazine by teachers with Practical value was 83,26% with practicalities category, while by students the practical value was 83,95% with practicalities category. Concluded of the research was handout with appear of the magazine on the human respiratory system material for junior high school students produced a valid and practical criteria, so it can be used in the learning process.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Mambu root (Millettia cericea W. & A. ) is a kind of plant that suppose has a role as antimicrobial that able to pursuing growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacterias. It is caused by the containing of Mambu root that compound on flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin. The purpose of this researcher is to know the influence of essence in Mambu root to growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacterias, and also to know the concentration of essence in Mambu root that can pursuing growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacterias. This reseacher have been done in January until February 2014 at Laboratorium Kopertis Wilayah X, Padang. The scheme/outline of this experiment is RAL with 12 of treatment and 3 times repetition. The concentrate of essence in Mambu root that have used for each bacterias is same, they are 10%,20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and amoksisilin 10% (positive control). The result of the data has been analyzed with sidik ragam analisys (ANOVA) and DNMRT tests. The result of this research showing that essence of Mambu root (Millettia cericea W. & A. )  can inhibit growth Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacterias. The concentrate of essence in Mambu root that effective can inhibit the growth Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacterias, that is to 50% concentrate. The mean inhibition zone for Escherichia coli bacterias is 11,53 mm while the mean inhibition zone for Salmonella typhi bacterias is 7,57 mm.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The  less  availability of  handout  for  the  Senior  High  School students  had  made  the learning process not  run as  it  was expected. Therefore, a creative and  innovative  effort  was required to  provide learning  materials for Biology subject  especially those related to  Human Regulation System topic. The aim of this research was to produce a contextual-based handout for teaching  Human Regulation System topic for Senior High School students and to  reveal the validity and  practicality of the product. This was a developmental research which used  4-D models. The research findings showed that the handout developed was valid. This could be seen from the result of the validation test done by the lecturers and teachers in which the validation score was 83,13%. The handout was also practical in which the score given by the teachers was84,71% and the score given by the students was 73,67%. Based on these results, it was concludedthat the contextual-based handout developed for teaching Human Regulation System topics forSenior High School students was valid and practical.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Excretion system is one of the topics in biology which requires the students to be able to make a linkage between the learning materials and the real world. Therefore, the teachers need to design a handout. This research was intended to produce a contextual-based handout accompanied with colorful pictures for teaching Human Excretion System. This was a developmental research which used 4-D models that consisted of four phases including defining, designing, developing and disseminating. The data gotten was analyzed by using percentage technique and interpreted descriptively. The result of the validation test indicated that the handout developed was valid in which the validity score was 89,55%. The handout was also practical. The practicality of the product could be seen from the score given by the teachers which was 91,15% and the score given by the students which was 83,62%. Therefore, it was concluded that the contextual-based handout accompanied with colorful pictures developed for teaching Human Excretion System had been valid and practical

Abstract

ABSTRACT Quill eggs are food materials that have many potential because it is very helpful to supple nutrition for societies, especially to supple animals protein. One way of conservations is used salting preservation because it can hamper and kills bacteria in eggs. Due to have been done the research to know the influence of Salt Concentration on protein content and Organoleptic Quality Salted Quail Eggs. This research was conducted at the Regional Sicincin, Pariaman at September 2013 and determines the protein content of  salted  quail eggs done  in  the Laboratory of  Integrated  Koperties X Padang.  The purpose of this research is to know the influence of salt concentration on protein content and organoleptic quality in salted quail eggs. This research used a completely randomize design (RAL) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. Such treatment A (without salt), B (salt 2%), C (salt 4%) and E (salt 8%) were performed for three days. The result shows that the treatment with various concentrations 8% higher protein content compared to other salt concentration. In the organoleptic test with different concentrations of salt texture and aroma values of salt quails eggs obtained results were not significant. Value salty scent of quail’s eggs is highest at 8% concentration of salt and salt quail’s eggs texture values are highest in concentration 2%, while the value of the flavor and color of the salt quail eggs are highly significant. Color values salt quail eggs contained the highest concentration of salt in 8% and the value of quail eggs taste salty at the highest salt concentration 4%.

Abstract

Cassava is tropical plants, productive and easily cultivated so it is expected to be one of the solutions to improve Indonesia's national food security. Mocaf is fermented cassava flour products using microorganisms. Mocaf is expected to replace the use of wheat flour which its necessity is escalated through the ages, while the area of wheat as a raw material is not fitted the climate of Indonesia. This research performed some sort of branded food yeast for producing Mocaf, taken for instance Fermipan, Saf-Instant yeast, tempe raprima yeast, tapai yeast, and unbranded bread yeast. It also would be analyzed the effect of soaking cassava with salt before fermentation, to nutrients generated by Mocaf. The objective of this research was knowing the types of yeast and fermentation process that is best in improving the nutritional quality of Mocaf. The best produced Mocaf in this research was made from fermented Mocaf using tapai yeast which was soaked with salt. It produced the highest level of protein i.e 40.860%, with low water levels i.e 6.640 %.

Abstract

Research on the effect of palm oil mill effluent medium on Chroococcus dispersus growth had been done.  The research was an experimental study with complete random design with 8 treatment (sediment and anaerob wastewater with concentration 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%). The growth curve was made based on the value of optical density (OD) measured at a wavelength of 680 nm. Chroococcus dispersus best growth seen at sediment wastewater medium with concentration of 100% and at anaerob wastewater medium with concentration of 75%.

Abstract

This research was aimed at studying the activities of amylase produced by isolate bacteria which were isolated from hot water resource, Ciseeng Bogor. Four among the nine isolate bacteria grown on NA media showed the activities of amylase. The character of Amylase was analyzed in 2 isolates, A1 and A3. Isolate A1 was optimally active at pH 3, 55 C, meanwhile isolate A3 was optimally active at pH 4, 50 C. The amylase resulted from either isolate A1 or isolate A3 was acid amylase. Both of the isolates were relatively stable at pH acid, whereas the amylase resulted from A3 was not stable on pemanasan in 30 minutes, and the amylase from A1 increased after being incubated at more than 60 C in 30 minutes. In conclusion, isolate A1 identified as Bacillus Coagulans indicated the optimal activities when it was grown at pH 6 and at the 14th hour of incubation.Key words: amylase, isolation, enzyme
