Abstract

This article is about the analysis of novel Age of Ambition Chasing: Fortune, Truth and Faith in the New China (2014) by Evan Osnos that focuses on how the main character does the resistance toward the government. The problem in this analysis how far the main character in the novel exposes the issue about defiance. The aim of this analysis is to find out how far Evan Osnos’ novel Age of Ambition Chasing: Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China brings up and reveal the issue of defiance which is done by the main character in this novel. This analysis involved the fictional devices that are plot (conflict) and setting to support the issue of defiance. This analysis deals with the concept of power by Michel Foucault.

Abstract

The purposes of this analysis are to expose the issue about the acts of demolishing stereotypes which is done by African-American man and to know the contribution of the narrator, plot and setting in revealing the acts of demolishing stereotypes. This analysis is related to the concept of orientalismby Edward W. Said that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the actions of an African-American man who struggles to demolish the negative stereotypesthat can be seen from his efforts to live as an independent person andhave good behavior.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of masculinity terror which have done through women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and to know the contribution of the character, plot/conflict, and setting in revealing the masculinity terror. This analysis is related to the feminist concept by Catharine MacKinnon that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the characters experience the masculinity terror that can be seen from their mental and physical condition.

Abstract

This thesis is the analysis of a play written by Annie Baker entitled The Flick (2013). It explores the issue of striving for survival and success reflected by the main character. This issue refers to the way the main character deals with all the difficulties and tries to reach a dream in his life. It is also intended to find out the contribution of fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict), and stage direction in revealing the issue of striving for survival and success. This analysis is related to the concept of life instinct which developed by Sigmund Freud and also supported by the text-based and context-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows about the way the main character persistence in surviving and achieving goals in his life through the efforts of socialization and self-interest exploration made by the character.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of State domination enforcement. It is also intended to find out how the characters, setting, plot or conflict to contribute in revealing the issue of State domination enforcement. This analysis is related to the concept of Power/Knowledge by Michel Foucault and Orientalism by Edward Said that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows that the State that is represented by British enforces the domination through law enforcement and media restriction.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of determination to survive in novel The Green Road (2015) by Anne Enright. The issue of determination to survive refers to how the protagonist whose name is Constance reacts and makes efforts in facing life hardships.  This analysis looks at the protagonist’s two effort done by the character which are building strong self-acceptance and being independent. This analysis is related to life instinct theory proposed by Sigmund Freud. The uses of the theory is based on the interpretation of the text and context of the novel. This analysis also depends a lot on fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict) and setting to determine which part of the novel that will be used as the data. The result of the study reveals that the protagonist builds her self-acceptance and shows her independence in order to survive.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue about restraints of the labor’s welfare which is done by the company in Reading, Pennsylvania and to know the contribution of the plot, setting, and character in revealing the restraints of the labor’s welfare. Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of women objectification in novel The Testaments (2019) by Margaret Atwood. The issue of women objectification refers to the various ways men objectify and subordinate women’s characters in every aspect of women’s life. This analysis focuses on men’s actions in restricting women’s life choices and using religion as a shield to regulate women’s body. This analysis is text-based interpretation based on the concept of women objectification theory proposed by Martha Nusbaum. This analysis uses fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict) and setting that contribute in revealing the issue. The result of the study reveals the way men objectify women is done two ways; they are choice restriction and religion distortion.
