Abstract

BACKGROUND: There is currently insufficient study focusing on comprehensive studies that thoroughly assess the prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae specifically among elderly patients with pneumonia in Asia. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae as a causative factor of pneumonia among elderly populations in Asian countries. METHODS: This meta-analysis was designed to systematically collect data from PubMed, Scopus, and Embase within the timeframe of January to February 2024. The study focused on gathering prevalence data of Streptococcus pneumoniae among elderly patients diagnosed with pneumonia in Asian countries. Statistical analysis employed a single-arm meta-analysis methodology to consolidate and evaluate the cumulative prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae in this specific population group. RESULTS: The total sample included in our study comprised 15 articles. Through our analysis, we found that the cumulative prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae among elderly patients diagnosed with pneumonia in Asia was 9% (Event rate: 0.09; 95% CI: 0.06, 0.12; Egger's test: p = 0.7047; p Heterogeneity < 0.0001; p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: Streptococcus pneumoniae remains a plausible causative agent of pneumonia in elderly Asian populations.

This study aims to investigate the factors that influence Muslim millenials intention to contribute toward integrated Islamic commercial and social finance (IICSF), especially in Indonesia case. Research Methods: Using modified TPB framework, primary data is collected from respondents located in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi. Partial Least Square-Structured Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) is utilized to analyze the data. Results: The result indicates that knowledge, religiosity, attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control have significant impact on Muslim millennials’ intention to contribute toward IICSF. Meanwhile, relative advantage is found to be insignificant. Conclusion: To boost the practice and implementation of IICSF, it is important to raise public knowledge, religiosity, attitude, and to increase education so society are well educated about the products. This study contributes to the limited research on integrated Islamic finance from a consumer perspective, particularly focusing on the behavioral intentions of Muslim millennials in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: NAFLD has the potential to develop into severe diseases like NASH and cirrhosis and is often linked to obesity, although it can also occur in non-obese individuals, complicating diagnosis. SCFAs, produced by intestinal bacteria through the fermentation of dietary fibers, are essential for metabolic health and may influence liver fat and weight regulation. The purpose of this study was to explore the connection between SCFA levels and the severity of NAFLD, including liver fibrosis, in individuals both with and without obesity. Methods: A cross-sectional investigation of 16 NAFLD patients with obesity and 11 without, with stool samples analyzed for SCFA via gas chromatography. Obesity was defined by abdominal circumference. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation, Eta’s correlation, and Pearson’s test. Results: Levels of SCFAs, including butyrate, propionate, and acetate, were significantly correlated in both obese and non-obese individuals diagnosed with NAFLD (r=0.618, p=0.001; p=0.019; p=0.037; p=0.012). Obesity was found to be positively associated with the severity of NAFLD (r=0.582, p=0.001). However, obesity did not exhibit a statistically significant connection with liver fibrosis (p = 0.351).Conclusion: Obese NAFLD patients exhibited decreased SCFA levels compared to non-obese individuals. Central obesity was linked to NAFLD severity but not fibrosis progression. SCFAs and obesity are crucial in the pathogenesis of NAFLD.Keywords: Central obesity, gut microbiota, NAFLD, SCFA
