Abstract

A study of science today is inseparable from a diversity of contexts. This is also reflected in society’s discourse on the positioning of science itself. To that end, principles of science cannot be actualized as such, rather must be underpinned by society needs that are reflected in research and pre requisites of science manifested in reengineered forms. Findings that relate to the environment, especially water, are crucial today in many areas.   By using a comparative and in-depth interview methodologies in a qualitative manner, this article which is based on a research that was conducted during   2008-2016 period in Code- Yogyakarta city (Indonesia), Air Panas Diwak- Semarang (Indonesia), Umbul Cokro-Klaten (Indonesia), Rawa Pening-Salatiga district (Indonesia), Curug Kalisidi- Semarang city (Indonesia) and Tasik Chini- Negeri Pahang (Malaysia), makes it interesting for a variety of reasons. First, based on a lot of previous literature, this article makes an argument that water with all its manifestations and forms, must have the quality of fulfilling needs of society. Water as an integral part of science, is accorded the position of a subject as well as an object in relation to society.

Abstract

This article focused on examining the political ethics of digital citizenship in Indonesia in the digital era at a time of technological and scientific progress, specifically in the context of the 2024 election. Changes supported by advances in information technology have also shaped the political character of each individual in the digital era. There are many negative as well as positive things that arise, making it an interesting discourse to research. This descriptive qualitative research explored data through in-depth interviews and reviewing literature sourced from books and articles and analyzed the content and conversations of digital citizens on social media Instagram ahead of the 2024 elections. The research results showed a shift in the political ethics of Indonesian citizens in the digital realm towards a better direction. Even though there was still a lot of conflict, disputes, commotion in the digital world in the 2024 election. Sharp discourse in the digital world in the 2024 Election, which was accompanied by data-based campaigns, was in line with the concept of worldly ethics initiated by Hannah Arendt. This concept can also be a solution to overcome the negative side of digital politics, including in the 2024 elections. Moreover, the existing dynamics of digital politics were based on non-primordial political ethics, that is, they are not accompanied by narratives of identity politics among citizens.

Abstract

This research explores the shift in gender construction identified in the dynamics of local politics in Central Java, specifically during the 2024 regional head elections. The pluralist perspective on local political studies emphasizes the inevitability of diverse local actors in managing power at the local level, including for local women. This research was carried out with a descriptive qualitative approach to analysis chosen in this study, because it aims to explore in-depth understanding of social and political phenomena, namely shifts in gender construction in local political dynamics in Central Java. Data was extracted through in-depth interviews and document data. Interviews with female informants of regional head candidates in Central Java, success teams, and voters, in the simultaneous regional head elections, were conducted to explore perceptions, views, and experiences so that they could interpret freely. The interviews used purposive sampling techniques, both in person and with messages through social media to voters in Central Java. The results of the study identified the phenomenon of gender construction evolution; first, shifting beliefs, values about women who are increasingly ready, have the ability in politics, so that they get validation and recognition from the voting community; second, political party support, ownership of women's financial capital in politics; and third, women's ability to face challenges that arise from themselves. Self-confidence in facing social pressure, political pressure, and political pressure is one of the most important factors.

Abstract

This article studies the incorporation of environmental concerns in the political campaigns of women candidates within the context of local Indonesian politics. The impacts of environmental problems in coast areas such as Semarang, Demak, Pekalongan, Kendeng mountains, and Wadas Purworejo are serious and pose an overwhelming challenge for women's exacerbated socio-domestic duties. The research is conducted by a normative legal approach through using statutory and implementation frameworks focusing on environmental issues concerning women’s political campaigns in Indonesian local politics, employing content analysis of authoritative books, peer-reviewed journals, on legal advocacy and sustainable development. The findings of the study highlight the stark urban-rural divide where urban candidates were more proactive in pushing sustainable development frameworks. In addition, women who managed to penetrate the legislative milieu exhibited different degrees of engagement with environmental policies; those framed as environmentalists tended to have higher proposed regulation rates. The research shows that most women do not, in campaign rhetoric, grasp the growing public discourse on contestation over policy frameworks at multiple levels—national, regional, and local—and legislative governance approaches that integrate ecological issues and sustainability as a central concern at local and global levels. To address these gaps, the authors argue women politicians need women’s targeted capacity building on environmental legislation that could enhance advocacy for sustainable development at the local level.

Abstract

The violent dynamics of gender, power, and politics synergistically undermine the political recruitment participation of women in Indonesia. Victims are often unaware of the oppressive power structures disguised as social norms, which continue to marginalize women's roles in politics. This research aims to identify the types of discrimination faced by women during the recruitment process for the 2024 legislative elections and to analyze the effectiveness of existing legal regulations in eliminating these obstacles. The study employs a normative doctrinal research approach by analyzing legislation, policies, and recruitment documents related to gender-based political representation. The analysis is further supported by theoretical frameworks concerning symbolic violence and gendered power relations. The study finds that systematic discrimination is perpetrated through “invisible” power structures that maintain a gap between formal legal protections and actual societal practices. Although the law provides a constitutional quota of 30% for women’s representation, symbolic and structural violence continues to suppress meaningful political participation. Legal frameworks tend to emphasize procedural equality, thereby failing to eliminate entrenched discriminatory practices. The study advocates for regulatory reforms that go beyond formal equality to ensure substantive and meaningful political inclusion of women in Indonesia. Keywords: Gender discrimination; Political recruitment; Symbolic violence.
