Abstract

Water is an essential nutrient needed by the body. Humans cannot produce water to meet their bodily fluid needs. Data in 2016 on fluid intake in Indonesia shows that 22% of children aged 4-9 have deficiency fluids, 21% in children aged 10-17 years, and 28% at 18-65. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge about body fluids and hydration status in medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra. This type of research is analytic with a cross-sectional design and using a simple random sampling technique with 99 students as the research sample. The variables studied were the level of knowledge measured by a questionnaire and the hydration status obtained by comparing the urine color with the PURI card. The results showed that most of the samples had a moderate level of knowledge about fluids (51.5%) and were dehydrated (48.5%). From the results of statistical tests using Chi-squared with ? value = 0.05, it is known that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and hydration status (p = 0.034).

Abstract

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a complex and poorly understood condition consisting of one or more of a number of physical and psychological symptoms that begin in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020 PMS has a higher prevalence in Asian countries compared to western countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with Premenstrual syndrome in adolescent girls at MTsN 1 Labuhanbatu in 2024. This research design uses an analytic survey, namely research trying to explore how and why the phenomenon occurs. Then analyze the dynamics of the correlation between phenomena, both between related factors (Indipendent) and effect factors (Dependent). The approach used in this research is cross sectional. The population in this study was 291 people. The sample in this study amounted to 74 people. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The results of statistical tests with stress categories obtained using the chi-square test at a confidence level of 95% are known that psig 0.000 is smaller than 0.05, the results of chi-square tests with consumption patterns at a confidence level of 95% are known that psig 0.000 is smaller than 0.05, the results of statistical tests with premenstrual syndrome incidence obtained using the chi-square test at a confidence level of 95% are known that psig 0.000 is smaller than 0.05. In conclusion, it is known that there is a relationship between stress, consumption patterns and exercise with the incidence of premenstrual syndrome in adolescent girls at MTsN 1 Labuhanbatu in 2024. It is suggested that the results of this study can add insight, knowledge and experience about premenstrual syndrome that can occur at any time.

Abstract

Background: Despite the increasing prevalence of overnutrition, the increasing number of children with Down syndrome, followed by the higher risk of children with Down syndrome to experience overnutrition, research conducted on factors that influence the nutritional status of children with Down syndrome is still limited in Indonesia. This research was conducted to look at the comparison of factors affecting the nutritional status of children with Down syndrome in the 7-12-year-old age group in Medan.Subjects dan Method: This research is an analytical cross-sectional study design. This research was conducted by distributing questionnaires to mothers of children with Down syndrome at POTADS Medan. The sampling method used is purposive sampling and data that meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria is selected. The number of samples were 30 children with Down syndrome. The data is then analyzed with Spearman’s correlation using SPSS with children’s nutritional status as the dependent factor and paternal education, maternal education, total parents’ earnings, children's energy intake, children’s diet quality, children’s physical activity, and maternal nutritional knowledge as the independent factors. Results: Correlations were found between the nutritional status of the children and paternal education (p= 0.019; r= -0.42), between children’s nutritional status and children's energy intake (p= 0.002; r= 0.55), and between children’s nutritional status and children’s diet quality (p= 0.015; r= -0.44) with confidence interval at 95%.Conclusion: Strong negative correlation against children’s nutritional status was found in paternal education and children's diet quality, while strong positive correlation was found in children’s energy intake. Indirect correlations against nutritional status were found in maternal education, parents’ total income, and maternal nutritional knowledge score. Keywords: down syndrome, diet quality, bmi. Abstract

One of the risk factors for hyperuricemia is consumption of purine-rich foods. Plant-based sources, such as nuts and legumes, have high amount of purine, in which it is commmonly consumed by vegan’s. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of vegan diet for 21 days on serum uric acid (UA) levels. This research used cross-sectional design. Data were collected from secondary data in Jingsi Books and Café, from October 2021 until January 2022. The population of the study is derived from 21 days vegan diet program by Tzu Chi Buddhist Association with total sample of 95 by using total sampling method. The data in this study is grouped according to age (<50 and ≥50 years old), gender, and both. The statistical test that is used is paired T-tests. The results showed that serum UA (mg/dl) increased in female (both age groups) and male <50 years old with increased mean 0,3, 0,2, and 0,4. For male aged ≥50 years old, there’s reduction in serum UA with reduction mean 0,1. The result is clinically significant with p-value 0,001. In conclusion, 21-day vegan diet increases serum UA levels in all populations, except for male ≥50 years old.

Abstract

Premature birth is one of the leading causes of infant mortality and complications. Early identification of pregnant women at risk of premature delivery is crucial for appropriate management. This study aims to develop a predictive model for premature birth risk using the Naïve Bayes method based on maternal health data from RSUD Rantauprapat. The data used includes variables such as mother's age, nutritional status, blood pressure, and history of premature birth. The study applies Naïve Bayes to predict the classes of premature birth risk, namely "Premature" and "Not Premature", with data divided into 70% for training and 30% for testing. The results show that the Naïve Bayes model achieved an accuracy of 78.33% in predicting premature birth risk. Additionally, the model shows precision of 89.29%, recall of 83.33%, and F1-score of 86.1%, indicating good performance in detecting pregnant women at risk of premature birth. Comparison with other models, such as Logistic Regression and Decision Tree, demonstrates that Naïve Bayes provides the best results in terms of accuracy and balance between precision and recall. This study shows that Naïve Bayes can be an effective tool for early detection of premature birth and can be implemented in medical decision-making systems at hospitals to improve the management of high-risk pregnant women. The results of this study can serve as a foundation for further research that develops predictive models by adding features or other algorithms.
