Abstract

This study aims to find out the type of fillers and factor influenced fillers in English Education Study Program. This research is a qualitative research with in-depth interview design. This data collection involved 7 learners from the 4th semester and 6th semester of English Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Luwuk. This research applied the theory from Rose (1998), Oomen and Postman (2021) in finding the data. The result of this research indicates the learners of English Education Study Program in 4th semester mostly use unlexicalized fillers and the 6th semester mostly use lexicalized fillers. There some factor influenced learners in using fillers are nervousness, divided Attention, infrequent. The dominant factor is nervousness. In this research, the input is suggested for learners, to the department of English Education Study Program and to further researchers to find out more about fillers and factor influenced fillers happened.

Abstract

This research aims to seek whether small group discussion can improve students’ reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 2 Toili or not. The research design of this study was quasi-experimental. The population of this research was eleven grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Toili consisted of 46 students from two classes, XI IPA (experimental) and XI IPS (control). Both classes were taken as the sample. Tests were administered as the research instruments. The results show that experimental class got the highest improvement compared to the control class, from 68,51 became 84,81 in post-test. Therefore, it was obtained the t-counted 7,740 with the significant level 0,05 is 1,680 and the (df) is 44. It means that, t-counted was higher than t-table. In conclusion, Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. In other words, small group discussion can improve students' reading comprehension achievement at SMA Negeri 2 Toili.

Abstract

Unpleasant sensory and emotional experiences arising from injury or damage to organs are often referred to as pain. Synthetic drugs are often used to treat the pain but often cause harmful side effects. Cat whisker leaves (Orthosiphon stamineus Benth) and celery leaves (Apium graveolens) are often an alternative choice of treatment for pain because they have potential as analgesics. The purpose of this study was to determine the analgesic effect of a combination of ethanol extracts of cat's whiskers and celery leaves on male mice (Mus musculus) using acetic acid as an inducer with a combination dose of 1:1, 1:5 and 5:1. The research is experimental using the writhing test method followed by data analysis including normality, homogeneity, one-way anova and LSD post hoc tests. The results obtained from the study showed that the analgesic effectiveness of the three doses of the combination was greater than the positive control of paracetamol, with a ratio of 2.9 times for combination I, 2.7 times for combination II and the largest comparison was in combination III which was 3 times with the highest percent protection of 74.64%. So it can be concluded that the combination of ethanol extracts of cat whisker leaves and celery leaves has an effect as an analgesic and can inhibit pain better than paracetamol.

Abstract

Kei: Kutemukan Cinta di Tengah Perang (2013) is a novel by Erni Aladjai that tells the dark events of the Ambon civil war 1999 that occurred in Ambon (Kei Islands). The problem in this research is how the author reconstructs the memory and trauma of war that caused psychic wounds for the survivors, and how this novel becomes the middle voice. The descriptive analysis method was used to look at the narrative as well as the text that gave rise to the construction of traumatic memory. Meanwhile, for the theory, Cathy Caruth's trauma memory theory is used. The results showed that all the traumatic events of the Ambon civil war that occurred in the Kei islands left psychological scars and traumatic memories for the survivors. This memory is narrated in bombings, massacres, and so on. The survivors were trauma, and the traumatic events were present in the symptoms of nightmares and flashbacks. Meanwhile, this novel can also become a middle voice to voice the other stories of the survivors in the public space. It was realizing that in fact the demands for truth and justice for them have never disappeared buried with the past.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Academic Writing course in enhancing the writing skills of third-semester university students. The research specifically investigates improvements in technical writing aspects such as punctuation, capitalization, grammar, vocabulary, and the construction of coherent and logically structured paragraphs. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through quisionnaire, analysis of students’ written assignments. The findings demonstrate that the Academic Writing course significantly contributes to the improvement of students’ writing proficiency, notably in accuracy and adherence to academic writing conventions. Students displayed increased awareness and consistent application of proper writing techniques, resulting in more structured and clear academic texts. The study recommends incorporating more interactive and context-based teaching strategies to further enhance student engagement and writing outcomes. These findings underscore the importance of Academic Writing courses as a foundational component in undergraduate curricula to prepare students for academic and professional success.

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini dengan tema “sosialisasi literasi linguistik dengan fokus pada penggunaan media sosial yang bijak dan efisien”. bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat mengenai pentingnya penggunaan bahasa yang sopan, jelas, dan tepat dalam berkomunikasi di media sosial. Program ini juga mengedukasi pengguna tentang bagaimana memilih kata yang sesuai, mengenali tanda-tanda ujaran kebencian, serta memahami etika digital. Dengan meningkatkan literasi linguistik, diharapkan mahasiswa dapat menggunakan media sosial secara bijak dan efisien, serta berkontribusi pada terciptanya lingkungan digital yang lebih positif dan konstruktif.   Peserta kegiatan adalah mahasiswa semester 2 Ilmu Pemerintahan, Fakultas Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Perkembangan pesat teknologi informasi telah membawa dampak signifikan terhadap cara berkomunikasi, khususnya melalui media sosial. Penggunaannya yang tidak bijak dan tidak efisien dapat menimbulkan dampak negatif. Masih banyak pengguna media sosial yang belum sepenuhnya memahami bagaimana cara menggunakan platform ini dengan baik dan benar, baik dari segi komunikasi yang efektif maupun dari aspek etika berbahasa yang tepat. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk mengembangkan literasi linguistik yang baik, sebagai keterampilan untuk memahami dan menggunakan bahasa secara efektif di dunia maya. Beberapa hal penting yang dapat dibahas dari hasil pengabdian ini adalah: Pentingnya Literasi Linguistik di Media Sosial, Peran Kampanye Digital dalam Meningkatkan Kesadaran, Tantangan dalam Penerapan Literasi Linguistik, Keterlibatan Mahasiswa dalam Diskusi Kelompok, Pengaruh Sosialisasi terhadap Perubahan Perilaku. Hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menunjukkan bahwa sosialisasi literasi linguistik tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran tentang pentingnya etika berbahasa, tetapi juga memberikan dampak positif dalam perubahan perilaku dalam berkomunikasi di dunia maya. Namun, tantangan terkait penyebaran informasi yang tidak diverifikasi masih tetap ada, sehingga diperlukan upaya berkelanjutan dalam meningkatkan literasi digital dan linguistik, terutama di kalangan generasi muda yang sangat aktif di media sosial.
