Abstract

This study presents the design and performance evaluation of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based nutrient and environmental monitoring device for vertical hydroponic farming. The system employs multiple sensors to measure pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), nutrient temperature, air temperature, and air humidity. Data are transmitted via ESP32 and integrated with the Arduino IoT Cloud, enabling real-time monitoring through a web dashboard and IoT Remote mobile application. A 10-day testing period was conducted to compare sensor outputs against standard calibrator references. The device demonstrated minimal bias (e.g., 0.20 for pH, 0.51"¯°C for nutrient temperature) and high precision (100.00%) across all parameters. Accuracy ranged from 92.33% (TDS) to 98.24% (nutrient temperature), while error rates were relatively low (e.g., 1.76% for nutrient temperature and 7.67% for TDS). These findings validate the system's reliability and consistency, supporting its potential for scalable implementation in precision-controlled, real-time monitoring applications within urban agriculture.

Abstract

The widespread use of electricity today, which is primarily generated from fossil fuels, results in significant environmental consequences due to excessive consumption. Renewable energy has been proposed as a solution to mitigate this issue. In Indonesia, particularly in Pekanbaru City, the demand for electricity currently exceeds the supply. However, this region has substantial potential for renewable energy sources. This study presents the modeling and analysis of wind energy, specifically wind turbine systems, using MATLAB Simulink. The methodology involves identifying existing problems, collecting technical data relevant to Pekanbaru and turbine components, and designing the turbine system within MATLAB Simulink. The results of this system indicate a mechanical power output of 1,191 watts, along with a calculated torque of 48.63 Nm. These findings suggest that the system is suitable for small-scale electricity needs. Further research and considerations are necessary to optimize the design and application of turbine systems for sustainable energy production. By improving the efficiency and scalability of wind energy systems, Indonesia can better address its energy deficit while reducing the environmental impacts associated with fossil fuel consumption.

Abstract

This research examines the implementation of a solar power generation system at Ar-Raniry State Islamic University (UIN Ar-Raniry), specifically focusing on the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Keguruan building. The study aims to enhance energy efficiency, assess economic feasibility, and reduce environmental impacts by optimizing solar energy potential through variables such as local meteorological conditions, panel orientation, tilt angles, and system efficiencies. Utilizing PVSyst software for simulations, the research evaluates technical performance, life cycle costs, and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emission reductions. The results indicate that the solar Photovoltaic (PV) system can generate 251,214 kWh annually while reducing CO₂ emissions by 173,095 kg. Economically, the investment is deemed feasible, with a payback period of 7.8 years, a lower cost of energy (LCOE) compared to State Electricity Company (PLN) tariffs, a positive net present value (NPV), and a high internal rate of return (IRR). Although there are minor losses in thermal and module quality, the system remains effective. This study contributes significantly to sustainable energy policies in higher education and recommends further long-term performance monitoring and exploration of additional renewable energy technologies on campus.

Abstract

Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) integrates green building principles to enhance environmental sustainability by reducing energy waste and utilizing renewable energy sources. This study conducts a feasibility analysis of installing solar panels in a green open space near building D to supply up to 20% of its electricity needs. PVSyst simulations evaluated different panel orientations (north, south, and east). The results indicated that the installation is currently unfeasible, with a net present value (NPV) of -134,346,450.22 IDR and an internal rate of return (IRR) of -4.64%. The challenges included shading from surrounding buildings, heat buildup, and limited installation space. To improve viability, future installations should focus on sites with minimal shading and explore advanced technologies to enhance efficiency. Additionally, optimizing panel orientation and investigating alternative renewable energy sources suited to UMN’s conditions are crucial. These measures can enhance the effectiveness of solar installations and contribute to overall energy sustainability on campus.

Abstract

As of the end of 2022, Indonesia’s electrification ratio reached 99.63%, reflecting significant progress. However, the province of East Nusa Tenggara lags behind with an electrification ratio below 90%, indicating a considerable gap in energy access. This challenge is particularly evident in Oelpuah village, where frequent power outages occur due to the inadequacy of the existing 5 MW solar farm. This study proposes addressing this shortfall by expanding the solar farm capacity by an additional 4 MW. Comprehensive feasibility studies were conducted, evaluating solar radiation, natural disaster risks, and land use. The analysis, supported by PVSyst simulations, identified a suitable site with high radiation levels, though it is not entirely free from disaster risks. The design requires 13,500 solar panel modules, each with a capacity of 330 Wp, and seven 500 kW inverters. Optimal system performance is achieved with a 15-degree panel tilt and a 0-degree azimuth, aligning with the site's location south of the equator. This expansion could supply electricity to up to 4,014 households, each with a typical power usage of 0.825 kW. The study highlights the need for further research to enhance electricity coverage across Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia has a vast amount of potential for renewable energy, with many places still experiencing inaccessibility and inadequacy to electricity. One of the places, Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara, suffers a deficit of 4 MW at night along with a blackout despite the implementation of the Oelpuah Solar Power Plant that can produce 5 MW. Thus, this study presents a feasibility study and simulation of additional solar power plant implementation using PVSyst based on geospatial analysis by ArcGIS to point down the desired location, namely Oefafi. The results produce 7,212,139 kWh/year (almost 20 MWh/day using 6,552 modules of Jinkosolar 610 Wp JKM-610N-78HL4- BDV, 274 units of Growatt 12KTL3-X inverters, and 2000 BYD B-Box PRO 2.5 1,024 V 5,200 Ah battery. The losses of the systems mostly come from temperature loss in PV. The total installation cost is 51 billion IDR with a payback period of 8.3 years, NPV of 6.6 billion IDR, and IRR of 10.62% for an electricity tariff of 1,000 IDR/kWh. The amount of greenhouses saved accounts for 134,110.3 tCO2. This will help in filling the 4MW deficit while also potentially providing to other unsupplied regions. Future research may use other software for comparison and give better explanations.

Abstract

Optimizing electrical energy consumption is imperative to preserve ecological balance and conserve finite natural resources. One major contributor to inefficient electrical energy consumption is the indiscriminate use of electronic devices. Lighting systems, for example, fundamental in modern living, are often left on unnecessarily, resulting in substantial energy waste. To address this issue, we've introduced an automatic lighting control system that automates light activation and deactivation based on user-defined schedules, promoting energy efficiency and responsible energy use. The primary objective of our research is to design and deploy a Blynk-controlled IoT-based wireless switch control system that enhances energy efficiency by efficiently managing lighting for example conditions according to user-defined parameters. This approach minimizes energy waste, regulates current supply to lighting fixtures, and encourages responsible electronic device usage. Moreover, the system aligns with government initiatives for sustainable energy use and environmental conservation. This paper delves into the detailed design, development, and practical applications of the IoT-based Blynk-controlled wireless switch control system, emphasizing its technical aspects and underscoring the substantial benefits it offers to users and the environment. Our study represents a significant step towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future, driven by innovative technology and responsible energy management.
