Abstract

The ASEAN University Network (AUN) is a collaborative platform for higher education institutions in Southeast Asia, aimed at enhancing the quality of human resources through educational institutions by fostering collaboration among universities within the ASEAN region. This study seeks to analyze the role of the ASEAN University Network (AUN) as an actor in promoting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 among AUN Core Member universities, through a series of thematic programs designed by the AUN. SDG 4, which emphasizes quality education, is a key priority of sustainable development that necessitates cross-national collaboration. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through literature reviews and document analysis of AUN policy materials. The findings reveal that the AUN has launched thematic programs that actively contribute to achieving the targets of SDG 4. The study identifies a strong alignment between AUN's thematic initiatives and SDG targets 4.3 through 4.B, both in terms of conceptual understanding and practical implementation. These are realized through efforts such as strengthening quality assurance mechanisms, preparing the ASEAN youth, and addressing disparities in educational access. This research underscores the significance of AUN as a vital intermediary in higher education, playing a strategic role in advancing the achievement of SDG 4 in the ASEAN region.

Abstract

This study examines the strategies adopted by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework through Formula 1 racing. As one of the most influential non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in global motorsport, the FIA has integrated sustainability principles into its operational and advocacy activities. Using the Social Purpose NGO Framework by Teegen, Doh, and Vachani, this research analyzes the FIA’s dual approach—operational strategies focused on environmental management and advocacy strategies aimed at public awareness and policy engagement. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method based on secondary data from FIA reports, environmental strategy documents, and previous research from 2019 to 2023. The findings reveal that the FIA’s operational strategies include the transition to renewable energy, the use of biofuels, water conservation initiatives, waste reduction programs, and reforestation projects around race circuits. Meanwhile, its advocacy strategies involve public campaigns, partnerships with organizations such as Ocean Cleanup and UNEP, and initiatives like #WeRaceAsOne to promote climate action and gender equality in motorsport. Collectively, these efforts align with eight priority SDGs, including clean energy, responsible consumption, climate action, and partnerships for the goals. The study concludes that the FIA’s sustainability agenda demonstrates how international sports organizations can act as catalysts for global environmental awareness and sustainable innovation.

Abstract

This research aims to compare the implementation of two policy projects in cooperation with the Dutch government to address sea level rise in two major cities. Focusing on two projects in the two Southeast Asian capitals of Manila and Jakarta with similar geographical locations, similar problems, and similar foreign cooperation partners, but have different implementations in the two countries. This research uses the theory of Comparative Policy to analyze the comparison of the effectiveness of program implementation in both countries. The method used in data collection is through secondary data, where the author does not directly collect data but through third parties in the form of previous articles and journals. Despite the fact that both projects cooperate with the Netherlands through the Netherlands International Water Ambitions (NIWA), they have different approaches. By involving the private sector in its funding, MBSDM concentrates more on nature-based solutions such as mangrove restoration and coastal ecosystem zoning. NCICD, on the other hand, concentrates on building large infrastructure intended to prevent tidal flooding quickly, such as the Giant Sea Wall, giant dykes and coastal reclamation.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that is rich in natural resources, especially marine ecosystems. Currently, this ecosystem is under threat of being damaged due to various factors that have made ADB as a multilateral financial institution in the Asian region participate in supporting marine conservation to boost Indonesian economy. In fact, the marine ecosystem has a big impact, such as contributing 3.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and has the potential to contribute 1.3 times that amount. By using a qualitative descriptive research method and using concepts related to International Relations, namely Environmental Conservation and Foreign Aid, author will explain and elaborate that the form of ADB's foreign aid to Indonesia in COREMAP-CTI Phase III are financial assistance and technical assistance. The COREMAP-CTI program which has been carried out in three phases has produced significant results for the development of marine ecosystems. Thus, ADB's foreign aid to Indonesia is considered quite significant in marine conservation in Indonesia.DOI: https://doi.org/10.33005/jgp.v11i01.3980

Abstract

ABSTRACT Tanzanian society faces cases related to human security, especially against the albinism group. The existence of supersititious beliefs that are still developing, especially those spread by witch doctors, causes albinism to become victims of exploitation ranging from human trafficking, violence, to discrimination which ends up threatening the safety and welfare of Tanzanian albinism. This growing shamanic practice contributes to the high number of cases of assault, kidnapping, and even murder of albinism, both by the general public and their own families. In response, the Tanzanian government ratified the the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2009 as an effort to legally protect and sanction perpetrators of discrimination against albinism. This research aims to analyse the Tanzanian govermment’s implementation of the CRPD in addressing cases of violence against albinism in 2009-2024 using compliance theory with three indicators: outputs, outcomes, and impacts. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques from books, official reports, journal articles, and media publications. The result showed that despite a decrease in cases in some years, attack on albinism still fluctuate until 2024. Keywords: CRPD Implementation, Albinism Tanzania, Human Security, Albinism DiscriminationABSTRAK Masyarakat Tanzania menghadapi kasus terkait human security khususnya terhadap kelompok albinisme. Abstract

Violence against women and children remains a serious social problem in many countries, including Australia. Despite Australia’s formal commitment to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), gender-based violence continues to occur at alarming rates. This study aims to analyze Australia’s efforts in addressing violence against women and children through the implementation of CEDAW during the period 2023–2024. This research employs a qualitative method using document analysis. The data are obtained from official government reports, policy documents, international conventions, and relevant academic literature related to CEDAW and gender-based violence. The analysis focuses on Australia’s National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032 and its First Action Plan 2023–2027. The findings indicate that Australia demonstrates normative and procedural compliance with CEDAW through policy alignment, institutional mechanisms, and intergovernmental coordination. However, most programs and action plans remain in the implementation or development stage, indicating that substantive outcomes are still limited. Challenges such as cultural norms, data gaps, and coordination between federal and state governments continue to hinder effective implementation. This study concludes that while Australia shows strong commitment to CEDAW principles, sustained implementation and outcome-oriented evaluation are required to effectively reduce violence against women and children.

Abstract

This study examines how sociopolitical factors shape the implementation of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) in three partner countries—Jordan, Myanmar, and Nigeria in 2020-2024. Using a comparative qualitative approach grounded in the Most Similar Systems Design (MSSD), the research explores how varying political institutions, social structures, and governance conditions influence the translation of feminist foreign policy principles into practice. Findings reveal that while FIAP’s three core pillars, Rights, Resources, and Representation, are consistently implemented, their outcomes vary significantly across contexts. In Jordan, implementation has been relatively effective due to institutional stability and state–civil society collaboration. In contrast, Myanmar’s political instability following the 2021 military coup has constrained FIAP’s reach, forcing a shift toward localized and community-level empowerment initiatives. Meanwhile, Nigeria demonstrates a hybrid outcome, where grassroots engagement and strong civil society networks have driven progress in women’s economic participation and local governance, despite enduring structural inequalities. The study concludes that the effectiveness of FIAP depends not only on program design but also on the compatibility between feminist policy frameworks and the sociopolitical realities of recipient countries, highlighting the importance of contextual sensitivity in advancing global gender equality agendas.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of social protection interventions aimed at addressing child labor in Egypt between 2018 and 2024. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this study explores the root causes of child labor, which are deeply embedded in cultural, educational, and environmental factors. Addressing these root causes requires a comprehensive strategy that tackles the structural dimensions of the problem. Recognizing the urgency of child labor as a threat to individual security, the International Labor Organization (ILO) launched the ACCEL Africa project, which aims to accelerate the elimination of child labor across six African countries, including Egypt. This research adopts a descriptive design and relies on literature-based analysis to evaluate the social protection strategies implemented under the ACCEL initiative. These include cash transfer programs, microcredit income-generation initiatives, and public employment schemes, all of which focus on promoting socio-economic rights as a pathway to reducing child labor. Key interventions also include integrating financial assistance with the education system, advancing financial inclusion, and expanding employment opportunities for individuals of productive age. While these strategies have contributed to strengthening local institutional capacity, the study finds that structural challenges—such as cultural resistance and limited coordination among stakeholders—continue to hinder the effectiveness of implementation. The findings highlight the need for a more integrated and culturally sensitive approach to fully realize the goals of child labor eradication in Egypt.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to eradicate sexual violence committed by members of the Congolese Police and to address sexual violence in the DRC, particularly by fighting impunity and providing protection for victims and witnesses. This paper analyzes the implementation of UNSCR 1325 in the DRC through the lens of the WPS framework. A qualitative research method is employed, using literature study as the primary data collection technique. The result is that implementation of the NAP is structured around four WPS pillars including participation, prevention, protection, relief and recovery. In the participation pillar, efforts include appointing women to legislative institutions and revising electoral laws. The prevention pillar focuses on disarmament, demobilization, and recovery programs. The protection pillar emphasizes safeguarding the rights of women with disabilities, indigenous women, and survivors of sexual violence. The relief and recovery pillar centers on gender mainstreaming in peace processes. The suggestion is to improve the effectiveness of the NAP implementation in Congo, the government needs to allocate an adequate national budget to avoid dependence on external donors. Oversight of policy implementation must be strengthened, particularly in legal protection and the prevention of gender-based violence. Furthermore, it is crucial to eradicate patriarchal culture through gender equality education and expand psychosocial recovery services in conflict-affected areas.
