Abstract

The objective of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive restructuring with murattal al-Qur‘an relaxation technique in reducing Indonesian Muslim university students’ academic anxiety. The research was conducted on Indonesian Muslim university students at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah Al Urwatul Wutsqo (STIT-UW) Jombang. A Quasi Experimental with Nonequivalent Control Group Design was employed to assess the effectiveness of group counseling using cognitive restructuring and Murattal Al-Qur’an relaxation techniques in reducing students’ academic anxiety during thesis writing. The participants included 22 students with high levels of academic anxiety, divided into experimental and control groups. The instruments utilized were academic anxiety scales, worksheets, reflection journals, and a group counseling module. Statistical analysis using the Mann–Whitney U Test was applied to identify differences in scores between the two groups. The results indicated that group counseling incorporating Cognitive Restructuring and Murattal Al-Qur’an relaxation techniques effectively alleviated the level of students’ academic anxiety. Having a positive way of thinking and a better physical and psychological condition, the university students have succeeded in reducing their academic anxiety level, and will assume the thesis as a challenge instead of threat, and also will motivate them to work on it immediately and accomplish their study in time. In conclusion, this group counseling approach may be recommended for college counselors to assist STIT-UW Jombang students experiencing academic anxiety while working on their theses, and it can be used as a conceptual and empirical reference for the development of counseling in the future.

Abstract

This research analyzes the implementation of kultum activities (seven-minute lectures) after congregational noon prayers to increase students' self-confidence and mastery of Islamic religious material at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jombang. The research method is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research showed that the cult activities went well and increased students' self-confidence and mastery of Islamic religious material. Students' self-confidence increases because they are used to speaking in public, while their mastery of the material increases because students have to study and understand the material before delivering it. Obstacles faced, such as students who are not used to speaking in public, annoying audiences, and errors in reciting verses, can be minimized by providing guidance, motivation, and ongoing evaluation. The implementation of this cult activity is a real effort to realize the school's vision and mission, as well as forming positive characters in students through instilling values such as love for Allah SWT, self-confidence, hard work, mastery of religious material, independence, responsibility, honesty, trustworthiness, respect, courtesy, leadership, justice, kindness, humility, tolerance, peace, and unity.

Abstract

Motivation plays a crucial role in achieving various objectives across economic, religious, educational, and linguistic domains. This study specifically examined whether sholawat songs—Islamic devotional songs—influence students' motivation to learn speaking. Employing a quantitative research methodology, the researcher collected data through questionnaires distributed to participants. Subsequently, the data underwent analysis using simple linear regression to determine the relationship between the two variables. The research findings demonstrated that sholawat songs effectively enhance students' motivation for speaking learning. The statistical analysis revealed significant results through multiple measures. When comparing the t-counted value with the t-table value, the result (3.463 > 2.045) indicated statistical significance. Similarly, the p-value analysis (0.002 < 0.05) further confirmed the significance of the regression coefficient. These results collectively demonstrate that the relationship between sholawat songs and speaking motivation is statistically meaningful and not merely due to chance. Therefore, incorporating sholawat songs into language learning curricula may effectively boost student engagement and motivation in developing speaking skills
