Abstract

Jorong Koto Kaciak is a fairly high incidence of diarrhea contributed 36% of the incidence of diarrhea in Magek District. This study aims to analyze the Physical Quality and Bacteriology (E-Coli) of Dug Well Water in Jorong Koto Kaciak. This is a descriptive describing the physical quality and bacteriology of community dug well water. The populations were all community dug wells amount 153 units. By using cluster sampling, the sample was determined as much as 5 dug wells. Data collection used observation sheets and data analysis included univariate analysis which was carried out computerized. The results showed that 80% dug well water samples met the physical parameter requirements based on temperature, overall 100% community dug well water met the turbidity requirements <25 NTU / 100 ml, 60% dug well water samples met the physical requirements. odorless and tasteless and overall 100% dug well water samples do not meet the quality requirements of microbiology (e-coli)> 50 MPN / 100 ml It can be concluded that the community dug well water physically meets the quality standard requirements drinking water, but microbiologically it does not meet the health standard requirements, especially the quality of bacteriology, which can increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections for the community (diarrhea). For this reason, it is recommended that the community and health workers in Jorong Koto Kaciak pay more attention to the quality of dug well water.

Abstract

One of the ways to control the formation of plaque is by acting chemically. Flavonoids are antibacterial compounds that can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutants. The flavonoid content in dragon fruit peel has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of gargling 25% and 50% red dragon fruit peel extract on plaque formation. The research design used was True Experimental Design with the design of The Randomized Posttest Only Control Group, with the number of research samples consisting of 3 groups, namely 2 treatment groups and 1 control group. Data were collected by examining the Plaque Index. The analysis used paired t-test (paired test) α <0.05. The results showed that the mean difference in plaque index before and after rinsing with red dragon fruit peel extract, the concentration of 25% was 0.50 + 0.42, while for the red dragon fruit peel extract solution the concentration of 50% was 0.83 + 0.74 and chlorhexidine. 0.83 + 0, 57. This shows that the red dragon fruit peel extract with a concentration of 25% is more effective in suppressing plaque growth than the 50% concentration of dragon fruit peel extract. Red dragon fruit peel extract with a concentration of 25% can be recommended as a basic ingredient of herbal mouthwash for the prevention of dental and oral diseases.

Abstract

Dental health education is one way to increase knowledge about brushing teeth from school age. To increase knowledge of brushing teeth, you can use media such as leaflets and flip charts. The aim of this research was to determine differences in knowledge of toothbrushing education using leaflets and flip charts in 12 year old children at SDIT PERMATA, Padang City. This type of quasi-experimental research with a pre-test and post-test design. The population of all children aged 12 years was 32 people with the total sample population divided into 2 groups, namely 16 leaflet groups and 16 flip chart groups. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests. The results of the research show that respondents' knowledge after counseling using leaflet media increased by 100%, good criteria and flip charts increased by 68.8%, with good criteria, with the results of the paired t-test on leaflet media having a p value of 0.000 (p<0.05) while on flip chart media p value 0.000 (p<0.05). The results of the independent t-test obtained a p value of 0.002 (p<0.05), meaning that there was a difference in knowledge of brushing teeth after counseling with leaflet and flip chart media, where leaflet media was better in increasing knowledge of toothbrushing. It is recommended that students apply good and correct tooth brushing techniques, then brush their teeth at least twice a day, namely after breakfast and at night before bed.

Abstract

Dental caries is the most common oral health problem experienced by the public, with plaque being the main cause. Brushing teeth is an effective method for removing plaque, where the brushing technique plays a crucial role in oral hygiene. Elementary Schools (SDN) 06 and 21 Taluak IV Suku regularly receive visits from the local health center every six months for dental check-ups. SDN 06 has never conducted a mass tooth brushing activity, while SDN 21 does it routinely every Wednesday, guided by trained student health officers. Preliminary studies showed that 60% of the children from both schools brush their teeth once a day using a horizontal technique. This study aims to compare the oral hygiene of 12-year-old children who use the combination of Fone’s-horizontal technique and the combination of roll-horizontal technique. The research design is a quasi-experimental study with pretest and posttest. The population consisted of 50 children, with 48 samples taken using the saturated sampling technique. Dental hygiene was measured using the Hygiene Index, and data were analyzed using the independent t-test (α < 0.05). The results showed an average improvement of 16% for the Fone’s-horizontal technique and 36% for the roll-horizontal technique, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). In conclusion, the roll-horizontal combination technique is more effective, and children are advised to brush their teeth using this technique twice a day to prevent dental and oral diseases.

Abstract

Dental and oral health problems are still a serious concern in Indonesia. Based on SKI data in 2023, 56.9% of the population experienced dental and oral health problems, where dental caries is the most common problem caused by plaque. Vertical, horizontal, roll, and Fone's techniques are recommended techniques for children because they are simple and commonly used in everyday life. The purpose of this study was to prove the differences in dental and oral hygiene of children aged 11-12 years who brush their teeth with a combination of vertical, roll, horizontal and vertical, Fone’s, horizontal combination techniques at SDN 11 Bungo Tanjuang, Tanah Datar Regency. This study used a quasi experiment method with a pretest and posttest design. The population amounted to 42 people. Saturated sampling technique is used in sampling. Dental and oral hygiene is measured using the Hygiene Index. Data analysis was carried out using the Independent T-test statistical test. The results showed an average difference in oral hygiene for the vertical, roll, horizontal combination technique of 34% and for the vertical, Fone’s, horizonta combination technique of 18.95%, with a p-value of 0.000 (≤ 0.05). In conclusion, the combination of vertical, roll, and horizontal techniques is more effective in improving dental and oral hygiene scores. Students are advised to brush their teeth using the combination of vertical, roll, and horizontal techniques taught to them routinely twice daily to maintain dental and oral hygiene.
