Abstract

Background: The current situation in West Sumatra is that there are 1,899.15 tons of solid medical waste per year, including hazardous and toxic materials (B3), originating from 2,839 health facilities in West Sumatra, and hospitals or other health facilities are not allowed to dispose of medical waste carelessly, so it costs quite a lot. The poor management of this waste can be seen starting from the lack of efforts to prevent or at least reduce the amount of waste, the absence of a system for segregation, containerization, transportation, temporary storage, placement, or collection of waste that is not by regulations, and the inconsistent system for processing/final processing of waste and its disposalMethods: This qualitative research project will help us learn more about how hospitals in West Sumatra handle solid medical waste by looking at how they do it. The researcher is the crucial instrument; sampling data sources is done purposefully or snowballed, collection techniques are triangulation (combined), data analysis is inductive or qualitative, and the results of qualitative research emphasize meaning rather than generalization. Results: By researching 12 hospitals in West Sumatra, using interviews, researchers obtained information that there were other variables as hidden influences/other factors in this study, namely training in medical waste management and low levels of education for cleaning service personnel.

Abstract

Dental health education is one way to increase knowledge about brushing teeth from school age. To increase knowledge of brushing teeth, you can use media such as leaflets and flip charts. The aim of this research was to determine differences in knowledge of toothbrushing education using leaflets and flip charts in 12 year old children at SDIT PERMATA, Padang City. This type of quasi-experimental research with a pre-test and post-test design. The population of all children aged 12 years was 32 people with the total sample population divided into 2 groups, namely 16 leaflet groups and 16 flip chart groups. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests. The results of the research show that respondents' knowledge after counseling using leaflet media increased by 100%, good criteria and flip charts increased by 68.8%, with good criteria, with the results of the paired t-test on leaflet media having a p value of 0.000 (p<0.05) while on flip chart media p value 0.000 (p<0.05). The results of the independent t-test obtained a p value of 0.002 (p<0.05), meaning that there was a difference in knowledge of brushing teeth after counseling with leaflet and flip chart media, where leaflet media was better in increasing knowledge of toothbrushing. It is recommended that students apply good and correct tooth brushing techniques, then brush their teeth at least twice a day, namely after breakfast and at night before bed.

Abstract

Dental caries is the most common oral health problem experienced by the public, with plaque being the main cause. Brushing teeth is an effective method for removing plaque, where the brushing technique plays a crucial role in oral hygiene. Elementary Schools (SDN) 06 and 21 Taluak IV Suku regularly receive visits from the local health center every six months for dental check-ups. SDN 06 has never conducted a mass tooth brushing activity, while SDN 21 does it routinely every Wednesday, guided by trained student health officers. Preliminary studies showed that 60% of the children from both schools brush their teeth once a day using a horizontal technique. This study aims to compare the oral hygiene of 12-year-old children who use the combination of Fone’s-horizontal technique and the combination of roll-horizontal technique. The research design is a quasi-experimental study with pretest and posttest. The population consisted of 50 children, with 48 samples taken using the saturated sampling technique. Dental hygiene was measured using the Hygiene Index, and data were analyzed using the independent t-test (α < 0.05). The results showed an average improvement of 16% for the Fone’s-horizontal technique and 36% for the roll-horizontal technique, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). In conclusion, the roll-horizontal combination technique is more effective, and children are advised to brush their teeth using this technique twice a day to prevent dental and oral diseases.

The conclusion is the higher knowledge of dental nurses about infectious diseases will be more complete and appropriate SOP. Suggested can be increasing their knowledge about infectious disease so that can protect him self one of them with the use of self-protection equipment according to SOP before and during the action.

Abstract

Dental and oral health problems are still a serious concern in Indonesia. Based on SKI data in 2023, 56.9% of the population experienced dental and oral health problems, where dental caries is the most common problem caused by plaque. Vertical, horizontal, roll, and Fone's techniques are recommended techniques for children because they are simple and commonly used in everyday life. The purpose of this study was to prove the differences in dental and oral hygiene of children aged 11-12 years who brush their teeth with a combination of vertical, roll, horizontal and vertical, Fone’s, horizontal combination techniques at SDN 11 Bungo Tanjuang, Tanah Datar Regency. This study used a quasi experiment method with a pretest and posttest design. The population amounted to 42 people. Saturated sampling technique is used in sampling. Dental and oral hygiene is measured using the Hygiene Index. Data analysis was carried out using the Independent T-test statistical test. The results showed an average difference in oral hygiene for the vertical, roll, horizontal combination technique of 34% and for the vertical, Fone’s, horizonta combination technique of 18.95%, with a p-value of 0.000 (≤ 0.05). In conclusion, the combination of vertical, roll, and horizontal techniques is more effective in improving dental and oral hygiene scores. Students are advised to brush their teeth using the combination of vertical, roll, and horizontal techniques taught to them routinely twice daily to maintain dental and oral hygiene.

Abstract

Dengue fever in Indonesia is still classified as a serious disease because it has increased yearly from 2011 to 2013. This study aims to determine the difference in the effectiveness of various types of water in the queue as a trap for eggs of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Bukittinggi. This type of research is experimental. The test used is the Anova test because the data is not normal using the Mann-Whitney test. The research sample used a sampling technique. This study uses primary data which can be seen from the number of trapped Aedes Aegypti mosquito eggs. The results showed that between the straw bales using well water and mineral water, the p-value was (0.421)> ɑ (0.05), meaning that there was no difference between the straw-soaked line with well water and water mineral. Meanwhile, after a statistical test was carried out between the straw bales using mineral water and rainwater, the p-value was (0.008)> ɑ (0.05), (Ho was rejected, Ha was accepted), meaning that there was a difference between the straw-soaked anthers and mineral water and rainwater. Based on the results of various types of attractants on the number of Aedes aegypti mosquito eggs trapped in the applied science laboratory of the University of Fort De Kock, Bukittinggi, the straw-soaked extract with rainwater is more effective because it produces more eggs than the extract soaked in straw with well water and extract soaked in straw with mineral water.
