Abstract

Public speaking anxiety remains a persistent psychological challenge among final-year university students, particularly in academic contexts that demand frequent oral presentations and evaluative communication. This field-based quantitative study examines the relationship between positive thinking and public speaking anxiety among undergraduate students in their final semester. Using a correlational research design, data were collected from 366 students selected through accidental sampling across six faculties at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya. Positive thinking and public speaking anxiety were measured using validated Likert-type scales with satisfactory psychometric properties. Preliminary assumption testing indicated non-normal and non-linear data distribution, leading to the application of Spearman’s rho correlation analysis. The findings reveal a significant negative relationship between positive thinking and public speaking anxiety, indicating that students who demonstrate higher levels of constructive cognitive orientation tend to experience lower anxiety when speaking in public settings. These results highlight the central role of cognitive processes in shaping emotional responses to communication demands. The study contributes theoretically by reinforcing cognitive-based models of communication anxiety and practically by informing the design of psychological and educational interventions aimed at strengthening positive thinking to reduce public speaking anxiety among university students.

Using a phenomenological approach. Objective: The study aims to explore the subjective experiences of individuals with schizophrenia regarding occupational therapy through the ADL framework at UPTD LIPONSOS, Surabaya. Method: This study employs a phenomenological approach to understand the personal and subjective experiences of patients. Out of 140 individuals with schizophrenia (ODS) with low ADL levels, six were selected for intervention based on specific criteria such as residual schizophrenia diagnosis and low aggression levels. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and participant observation. Results: Occupational therapy enhances independence, self-esteem, and emotional management for individuals with schizophrenia, providing hope and motivation, and strengthening social relationships through personalized approaches and strong social support. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of personalized approaches in occupational therapy. The findings contribute to the development of more effective and evidence-based interventions, focusing on improving the quality of life for individuals with schizophrenia. This approach not only enhances independence and self-esteem but also provides hope and motivation for a better future.

Abstract

Negative peer relationships and bullying behavior among adolescents constitute significant social issues that affect students’ psychological well-being and the overall school climate. This psychoeducational intervention aimed to enhance students’ understanding and awareness of positive peer relationships as a preventive strategy against bullying at SMPN 12 Surabaya. The program employed a participatory psychoeducation approach, incorporating interactive lectures, educational videos, group games, and sharing sessions. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a pre-test and post-test design to measure changes in participants’ understanding. The findings indicate a substantial increase in students’ comprehension of positive peer relationships, rising from 30.9% in the pre-test to 78.8% in the post-test. Beyond cognitive improvement, the intervention also fostered more supportive and empathetic social interactions among students. These results suggest that participatory psychoeducation can serve as an effective strategy for promoting anti-bullying awareness and strengthening positive peer dynamics in junior high school settings.
