Abstract

Measurement of magnetic fields near the railway tracks is crucial to ensure compatibility with the operation of axle counters. According to EN 50592 standard, the magnetic field is detected with a passive magnetic coil and an oscilloscope. From previous studies, in general, there has been no in-depth analysis of how the choice of coil winding parameters could affect the coil output voltage, which then affect the measurement sensitivity, in particular the coil design based on the standard and it is applicability for electromagnetic interference (EMI) evaluation of axle counters. Therefore, this paper will explore the design of a passive magnetic coil to obtain the optimum coil output voltage within the frequency range. Simulations showed that for 10-100 kHz and 100 kHz–1.3 MHz range, the optimum number of turns happened at 60-100 and 15-60 turns, respectively. Based on that, two example coils had been built. Simulations and measurements of their frequency response were in good agreement, with a deviation less than 1.0 dB.

Abstract

Electromagnetic noise emission is inevitable in a DC-DC converter due to the employed switching technique. In low frequency, the noise propagating through cabling and conductive media is called a conducted emission. A conducted emission consists of differential mode and common mode noise. It is advantageous to know an estimate of emission level for each mode during the design phase so that suitable mitigation can be included earlier.. This paper aims to focus on a method to estimate the differential mode noise emission of a DC-DC converter. The estimation is computed using the input capacitor complex impedance and the current that flows through it. As a study case, a boost and buck converters are used for evaluation. The estimation and measurement results are compared. Despite differences at some frequencies, the estimated and measured results generally  agree well. Because of its simplicity, the proposed method can be used as a practical tool in the EMC aspect of DC-DC converter design.

Abstract

A subclass of Metal-Organic Frameworks, Zeolitic Imidazole Frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) is known as an emerging material that has the characteristic of a large surface area, good thermal stability as well as a high porosity. Instead of having extraordinary properties, ZIF-8 consists of Lewis acid and Lewis base site on its Zn metals and 2-methylimidazole which are the important components for the catalyst. In this study, Pd-Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) coated on ZIF-8 (Pd-PVP@ZIF-8) was synthesized by mixed Pd-PVP solution and ZIF-8 precursors at room temperature. The Pd-PVP solution was varied from 10 to 50 ml to differentiate the Pd concentration in ZIF-8. As-synthesized 50 ml of Pd-PVP on ZIF-8 (50Pd-PVP@ZIF-8) showed catalytic activity in the conversion of 98.6% lauric acid to produce 78.2% of 1-dodecanol at optimum condition 320 °C for 6 h. The synergy between Pd-PVP as metal and ZIF-8 as metal support as well as high dispersion of Pd particles could enhance performance in the conversion of lauric acid. Abstract

This paper proposes an improved electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) risk analysis approach for medical equipment related to the effect of electrostatic discharge (ESD). This approach not only focuses on the risk of ESD from the susceptibility aspect but also investigates its conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) characteristics. This study combines the standardized ESD test and conducted emission (CE) measurement simultaneously, applying it to the infant incubator and analyzing the spectrum of ESD current in the phase line in the time and frequency domain. The result shows that an ESD exposure caused current spikes with an average level of 13.8 A. Moreover, it also causes a broad spectral CE noise on the phase line of the infant incubator. Furthermore, the CE noise in the low-frequency range was also detected on the phase line during ESD exposure, indicating the risk of interference with other sensitive medical equipment connected to the same power network. The approach of proposed risk analysis in this study can be used to identify the risks of EMI due to ESD events in implementing the latest IEC 60601-1-2.

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize ZnO@SiO₂ composites via biosynthesis using Moringa oleifera leaf extract and to investigate the effect of different SiO₂ contents (pure ZnO, 1%, 3%, and 5% by weight) on their structural and microwave absorption properties, with ZnO prepared from a Zn(NO₃)₂·4H₂O precursor and calcined at 450 °C for 2 hours. The synthesized samples were characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). XRD results confirmed that all samples exhibited a hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure with space group P6₃mc and showed no secondary phases. The crystallite size decreased with increasing SiO₂ content, indicating nanoparticle formation and reduced crystallinity. VNA measurements showed that the ZnO@SiO₂ sample with 3% SiO₂ exhibited the best microwave absorption performance, with a minimum reflection loss (RL) value of –2.0251 dB at a frequency of 6.125 GHz. These results suggest that the 3% composition achieved better impedance matching and enhanced absorption efficiency.
