Kata kunci :  sadou, ritual, budaya tradisional ABSTRACT Japan is known as a modern country that still maintains the preservation of various traditional cultures, one of which is sadou or tea ceremony. Abstract

Kata kunci : Alphabet, hiragana, katakana, kanji, romajiABSTRACTIn this industrial era 0.4, the existence of foreign languages is very much needed for communication and of course understanding the culture of other countries. One of them is Japanese. To understand vocabulary in Japanese, we must first understand the letters / writings. Japanese writing comes from Chinese writing which was introduced in the fourth century. There are 4 types of Japanese letters, namely hiragana, katakana, kanji, and romaji. We often find these letters/characters in animated films, anime, manga, Japanese dramas and others. The Japanese language we know today, is written using a combination of kanji, hiragana, and katakana characters. Kanji are used to express the basic meaning of words (either in the form of nouns, verbs, adjectives). Hiragana is written after the kanji to change the basic meaning of the word, and adapt it to the rules of Japanese grammar. The hiragana and katakana characters each have 46 letters. Both do not have any meaning, like the alphabet in Indonesian, only symbolizing a certain sound, although there are also words in Japanese that consist of one 'syllable'. Kanji are used to express the basic meaning of words, whether in the form of nouns, verbs, adjectives, or articles. While Hiragana is written after the kanji to change the basic meaning of the word, and adapt it to the rules of Japanese grammar. Keywords :Alphabet, hiragana, katakana, kanji, romaji

Abstract

Folktales intended for children have a significant role in shaping children's characters, including gender identities and roles. Nevertheless, literary works often portray women in stereotypical roles or even ignore them, which means that those works have carried out the symbolic annihilation of women. The purpose of this study is to describe the symbolic annihilations found in a classic Japanese children's folktale with a female main character entitled “Kaguyahime” which was published on the Pictio website in 2014. This research is a literature study that uses a qualitative paradigm with a feminist approach, using Tuchman’s concept of symbolic annihilation. As a result, it is known that the folktale “Kaguyahime” represents the views and thoughts of the Japanese nation, that adhere to a patriarchal ideology towards women. Japanese women experience symbolic annihilation in various manifestations, especially trivialization. They are constructed as weak beings who are not autonomous and are in the domestic sphere, which serves as some satisfactory for men's views.

Abstract

Shabondama is a children's song whose lyrics are composed by Ujo Noguchi. This song tells about a game of soap balloons. Interestingly, even though it tells about children's play, this song seems mysterious. There are nuances of sadness when listening to this song. The diction used has a negative connotation, unlike most other children's songs which are cheerful and use words that have a positive connotation. This is what motivates the writer's interest in examining more deeply what the real meaning is contained in the song. The semiotic theory of Riffaterre's poetry was used to study it. Through the process of heuristic reading, hermeneutic reading, and intertext studies, the result shows that the meaning contained in this song is helplessness or weakness.

Abstract

Dokkai is a Japanese text reading comprehension course. In practice, students learning Japanese have difficulty understanding the contents of the text. This difficulty, in some cases, was caused not only by their weakness in understanding dokkai material, but also because of their lack of knowledge about how to learn dokkai. In order for the purpose of understanding reading to be achieved, learners must be able to optimize their knowledge and skills in reading such as good understanding of Japanese characters, vocabulary, grammatical mastery of Japanese, topics, and knowing dokkai learning methods and strategies. This can be achieved if the learning strategy can cover all the things needed in teaching dokkai. Through literature studies and surveys on the difficulties and desires of learners in teaching dokkai, this paper proposes a learning strategy called an integrated comprehensive learning strategy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the marginalization experienced by women in Higuchi Ichiyou's short story Nigorie, and the effects it causes. This research focused on marginalization because marginalization is the root of various unfair treatments experienced by women. As a literature study with the feminism approach, data in the form of dialogues, acts, and events related to women in this short story were analyzed based on Lorber’s and Fakih’s theory of gender inequalities, through the point of view of feminist literary criticism. As the result, it is known that the marginalization experienced by women who work in brothels has resulted in other unfair treatments, which in Fakih's opinion can be categorized as gender inequalities. Such unfair treatments are in the form of impoverishment, putting women in a lower position than men, negative labeling, violence, and double workload. Marginalization and various unfair treatments experienced by women in this short story, which gives the impression that the society in this short story doesn’t consider women as human beings in general, are the manifestations of hegemonic patriarchism that is deeply rooted in the life of the Japanese nation.

Abstract

Examining literary texts, especially poetry or song lyrics, is generally always related to the problem of meaning. This is a natural thing because poetry is always conveyed in indirect language. Nevertheless, poetry research should understand more than just the meaning of poetry; more critical is how to manage understanding, imagination, and the role of the plurality of texts in uncovering its significance. This research is in line with that. Namely, it aims to examine the significance and appreciation of the lyrical text of a children's song entitled Nanatsu no Ko by Noguchi Ujo. This study uses the text semiology approach or textual narrative analysis proposed by Roland Barthes. The data analysed is the Lexia, the units of reading that comprise the entire text. The lexias have been determined and then analysed using five narrative codes: hermeneutic, proaretic, semic, symbolic, and references codes. This study also uses significance analysis (denotation and connotation) to understand the semic code and connotation of the text. The results of this study found that the significance of the text is a message of criticism about the author's disappointment with Japan's modernisation policy which abandoned the original identity of the Japanese nation. This significance is obtained through the analysis of narrative codes which show the role of plural texts, even though they are conveyed in the form of children's song lyrics, with simple and easy-to-understand diction and arrangement.
