Abstract

Abstract

Literacy is a complex process, which involves the formation of prior knowledge, culture, and experience to develop new knowledge and deeper understanding. Science literacy is the ability to understand science, communicate science, and apply the ability of science to solve problems. To improve the ability of scientific literacy in addition to requiring student motivation, teachers also need to consider learning strategies that are appropriate to the conditions and potential of students which in the learning process focuses on providing direct experience and the application of the nature of science. Science literacy exists to shape mindsets, behavior, and build human character to care and be responsible for himself, society, and the universe. Literacy learning in schools is carried out to achieve certain goals, but with the development of literacy times it is intended that students are able to achieve certain competencies, so as prospective school teachers who will face 21st century education, 21st century competencies that must be mastered are high-level understanding competencies, competencies critical thinking, collaborative and communicating competencies, and creative thinking competencies. The simulation method is used in the application of scientific literacy using the STL (Science Technology Literacy) method which consists of several stages, namely the contact, curriculum, elaboration, decision making, nexus, and evaluation stages. The results obtained are that the application of the simulation results obtained an average student assessment reached 82.3% with a total of students getting a very good grade of 60% and the rest good at 40%.

Abstract

Thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) has a critical role in Graves’ disease (GD). GD is an autoimmune disease which is multifactorial. Environmental factors can affect the epigenetic, a changes in gene expression without any changes in base sequence of the DNA. One of the epigenetic types is methylation. This study aims to determine the status of DNA methylation in TSHR gene in patients with GD to be one of the predictors of recurrence. This study used a case control design with 58 samples of GD patients divided into 29 groups of recurrence and 29 groups of non-recurrence. DNA methylation examination used methylation-specific PCR (MSP) method. Our result found that DNA methylation profile of GD in Indonesia were 5% with complete DNA methylation, 17% complete DNA unmethylation and 78 partial DNA methylation. Statistical analysis showed no significant different between recurrence and non-recurrence group (p>0.05). Nevertheless, our result showed no patient with complete status DNA methylation was found in recurrence group. This shows that in recurrence occur a reduction of DNA methylation resulting in increasing of TSHR production. Thus, DNA methylation in TSHR gene might be has a role in the risk of recurrence GD.

Abstract

Introduction: Musculoskeletal injuries in physiotherapists appear to have an increasing trend with respect to years of service. A major change from this trend is that musculoskeletal injuries occur in those who have worked for more than 15 years as physiotherapists. This study aims to determine the relationship between working period and complaints of shoulder pain on physiotherapists in the city of Bandung. Methods: This study is a descriptive quantitative study with a cross sectional survey technique. The total sample was 85 physiotherapists (51 females and 34 males) with defined criteria. Samples who complained of shoulder pain were then measured using SPADI (The Shoulder Pain Disability Index). Results: Hypothesis testing using chi square at α = 0.05 obtained p = 0.026 with OR (95% CI) = 3.102 (1.12–8.61). Shows that there is a relationship between working period and shoulder pain. Physiotherapists with working period > 10 years had a 3,102 fold risk of experiencing shoulder pain complaints compared to those with a working period ≤10 years. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between working period of physiotherapist and complaint of shoulder pain.

Abstract

The process of learning from home during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is generally sedentary, causes changes in the basic functions of the body. In addition, lack of knowledge about movement and basic body functions and minimal checking of student body posture at school can have an impact on decreasing student fitness, concentration, and achievement. This can be seen when students began to be active again to carry out 100% learning from schools after the Covid-19 pandemic. The purposes of this community service activity are to provide preventive and curative efforts through educational assistance and examination of movements and basic body functions to increase student insigh about ideal body posture. This activity was carried out at SMA Negeri 85 West Jakarta with a target of 35 students, through four main activities: (1) preparation and production of educational materials about movements and basic body functions, (2) mentoring and delivery of material to the students, (3) examine movements and basic body functions, and (4) evaluate. The results achieved during the implementation showed the seriousness and enthusiasm of the students and based on the results of the examination, there were still students who had abnormal BMI and abdominal circumference. Likewise for body posture, examination of the upper extremities with a neck shoulder line test and examination of the lower extremities with true length and appearance length tests found dissimilarities between the right and left sides of the body. Furthermore, in the examination of body functions through isometric and prone plank tests, there are scores below the normal score, which means that there is a decrease in basic body functions like muscle strength and endurance. The results of this examination are evaluated and students will be able to recognize their body posture and take actions/steps that can maintain/ improve the posture to be better.

Abstract

Objective: is to determine the relationship between the explosive power of the leg muscles and the swimming speed of the 50m breaststroke sprint athlete aged. Methods: this research is a non-experimental research in the form of a correlation study to analyze the relationship between leg muscle explosive power and swimming speed of 50m breaststroke sprint athletes. There are 23 swimmers as the samples from Tumit Mitra Bangsa Swimming Association with an age range of 12-17 years taken with purposive sampling technique. The measurements taken were leg muscle explosive power with vertical jumps and swimming speed by mathematical calculation of the division of the pool distance (50m) with a record of the swimmer's time measured using a stopwatch. Result: the correlation test with the Spearman rank correlation coefficient showed a significant relationship with a value of p = 0.001 (p <0.05) with a very strong relationship (r = 0.997), which means greater explosive power of the leg muscles increases the swimming speed of the 50m breaststroke sprint athlete. The average with a standard deviation of leg muscle explosive power is 45.85 ± 5.99 and at swimming speed is 1.07 ± 0.15. Conclusions: there is a significant relationship between leg muscle explosive power and 50m breaststroke swimming speed.
