Abstract

Vanilla is a high-value plantation commodity prized for its vanillin content, an essential raw material in the food, beverage, perfume, and cosmetic industries. This study aimed to examine the growth response of vanilla stem cuttings to various natural Plant Growth Regulators (PGR) and identify which organic source yields the most effective results. The research was conducted at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Marine Sciences, Ottow Geissler University, Papua. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments with seven replications each. The treatments included: A1 (Control), A2 (Coconut water 500 ml/l), A3 (Bamboo shoot extract 4 ml/l), A4 (Rice washing water 130 ml/l), and A5 (Red onion extract 10 ml/l). Vanilla cuttings were immersed in the respective solutions for 10 hours prior to planting in polybags. Parameters measured included survival percentage, shoot length, leaf count, and root length. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test where applicable. The results indicated that the application of different natural growth regulators did not produce significantly different responses, as all treatments yielded equally positive outcomes. However, A2 (Coconut water) emerged as the most effective treatment across all parameters, achieving a 100% survival rate, a shoot length of 11.40 cm, an average of 5.71 leaves, and a root length of 30.47 cm.

Abstract

Abstract

The ecological crisis of the Anthropocene demands a re-evaluation of the technocratic conservation paradigm, which tends to subordinate the ontologies of Indigenous peoples. This study aims to reconstruct the ecological cosmology of the Tepera indigenous community in Yongsu Desoyo Village, Ravenirara District, Jayapura Regency, and to formulate a model of economic decolonization grounded in local wisdom. Employing a critical ethnographic approach through in-depth interviews with customary leaders and participant observation, the research is framed by Habermasian Modernity theory and a Critical-Practical Policy perspective. The findings reveal three principal results. First, the philosophy of Bu Suwe Kani Suwe (The Power of Water is the Power of Land) articulates a triadic water-land-tree paradigm that constitutes the ontological foundation of pre-colonial conservation practices, while the concept of Desoyo as "I am the Village Sprout" affirms that customary sovereignty is rooted in the ancestral ethnoecological verification protocols. Second, the "Sago Tree" metaphor functions as a socio-political mechanism of resilience that positions customary leadership as a source of equitable livelihood distribution. Third, the 2019 flash flood exemplifies the colonization of the lifeworld by system logic, generating a twofold vulnerability of ecological degradation and economic precarity. This study proposes a "government-as-distributor" model to sever dependency on extractive economies, while advocating the integration of customary law into public policy to facilitate Yongsu Desoyo's transition toward Customary Village (Kampung Adat) status.

Abstract

Abstract Arso IV region in Keerom Regency possesses abundant agricultural potential, particularly in taro (keladi) and cocoa commodities. However, the majority of farmers still sell their harvest in the form of raw materials, which triggers price fluctuations and low incomes. This problem is exacerbated by the community's limited knowledge in product diversification and the minimal implementation of post-harvest standards, especially proper cocoa fermentation processes. This Community Service Program (PkM) aims to empower PKK/Women Farmers Groups (KWT) as downstream management agents and male farmers as raw material suppliers in Arso IV Village through a participatory bottom-up approach. The implementation method utilized socialization and audiovisual demonstrations (structured video tutorial screenings without direct hands-on practice on-site), covering aspects of agribusiness management, taro chips processing diversification, and chocolate bar molding in accordance with hygiene standards and technical parameters. The evaluation of the activity showed optimal achievements, wherein the participants' cognitive aspect experienced an increase in understanding exceeding the minimum target of 75% from the initial condition, and the procedural psychomotor aspect successfully equipped participants in recognizing critical stages and technical parameters of processing. The activity was successfully implemented and received a positive response and high enthusiasm from the participants. As a follow-up, the program is recommended to be continued with appropriate technology tool assistance and marketing mentoring to strengthen community economic independence sustainably. Keywords: product diversification; women empowerment; cocoa; taro; audiovisual demonstration.
