Abstract

The research aimed to describe the students’ autonomous learning capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive quantitative research was conducted with 269 students of Education faculty, the University of Pahlawan as the research sample that was selected through a simple random sampling technique. The questionnaire was used as a research instrument.   The questionnaire with four Likert scales was distributed to the sample with five indicators.  To analyze the data, the researcher used descriptive statistical analysis.  The findings of the research were as follows: 1). The students agreed that they could formulate their own learning objectives. In addition, several learning activities designed are prepared to help them to reach the learning objective. 2). They agreed that they adjusted the study plan by considering personal needs, including the time schedule as detailed as possible. 3). They claimed that they are acknowledged with learning strategy and implement it in the routine learning process intentionally. 4). The students reported that several changes were adapted in terms of learning strategy if it is necessary as well as considering personal capability. 5). They agreed that monitoring and evaluation of the whole learning process are necessary. This study concluded that the integration of technology in the learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic is a positive thing.

Abstract

The effective teaching strategy in writing class must be considered to get the best students’ writing. The aims of this research is to investigate the teachers’ teaching writing strategis in Writing class at English Language and Education Department of University of Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. This qualitative descriptive research used interviews in collecting data. This research uses a descriptive analysis which means that this study analyzes the strategy used by English teacher in teaching writing. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data analysis inductively building from particulars to general themes, and the researcher making interpretations of the meaning of the data with a teacher as the subject of the research. This research used in-depth analytical techniques (in-depth analysis), which is reviewing the problem in case of cases. The result shows that the strategy used by the teacher, namely charts. Charts is a suitable strategy to use in teaching writing, because the strategy is designed as attractive as possible, simple, and effective so that students are interested in the material presented by the teacher. It can be used in teaching writing skill because Charts also provide a summary of the important points of the material in writing.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah sebuah kegiatan pelatihan dan pedampingan yang bertujuan untuk membantu dan mengembangkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam teknik penulisan akademis dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Permasalahannya adalah tidak semua mahasiswa di lingkungan  Fakultas Teknik yang memiliki kemampuan dan pengetahuan dalam penulisan akademis menggunakan bahasa Inggris yang baik. Mahasiswa masih memiliki kendala kompetensi dalam menulis akademis dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, pelatihan dan pedampingan Academic Writing perlu diberikan  kepada para mahasiswa Fakultas Teknik. Kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan tersebut dilaksanakan di lingkungan Fakultas Teknik Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai dan dilakukan oleh tim dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. Hal ini didasarkan karena kebutuhan mahasiswa untuk mengikuti Program Fast Track 3 + 2 yang dilaksanakan  oleh Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai dan Ming Chi University of Technology, Taiwan.  Metode yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan dan pendampingan Academic Writing  tersebut adalah metode intervensi, blended learning (tatap muka dan daring), eksplanatori (ceramah), drill, diskusi, tanya-jawab, dan pendampingan mahasiswa. Materi yang diberikan dalam pelatihan dan pendampingan Academic Writing  tersebut meliputi tata bahasa, struktur paragraph dan esai, serta cara membuat kutipan, summary, dan daftar pustaka. Hasil yang dicapai adalah mahasiswa memiliki pengetahuan dalam teknik menulis akademis dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris, mahasiswa mampu membuat kutipan, summary, dan daftar pustaka. Selain itu, pelatihan ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mahasiswa dalam menulis bentuk karya tulis ilmiah dalam bahasa Inggris. Sehingga, pelatihan dan pendampingan tersebut berdampak positif bagi mahasiswa, khususnya dalam menyelesaikan tugas-tugas menulis menggunakan bahasa Inggris dan juga sebagai modal dalam menyusun tugas lainnya.

Abstract

Keterampilan.berpikir.tingkat.tinggi (HOTS) sangat diperlukan bagi siswa karena siswa harus mampu membuat keputusan serta dapat memecahkan masalah secara kritis dan kreatif dalam menghadapi tantangan globalisasi abad-21. Oleh karena itu, dilakukannya.penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya pengaruh model Learning Cycle 7E terhadap keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa kelas V SDN 018 Bukit Sembilan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas V SDN 018 Bukit Sembilan dengan sampel kelas VA sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VB sebagai kelas kontrol yang diambil dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Pengumpulan data penelitian dengan menggunakan observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi. Hasil analisis data menujukkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa pada kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan model Learning Cycle 7E yaitu sebesar 82,97 lebih tinggi jika dibandingkan dengan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa pada kelas kontrol yang menggunakan model konvensional yaitu sebesar 76,54. Hal ini juga terlihat dari hasil uji-t dengan taraf signifikansi 5% diperoleh nilai sig. (2-tailed) (0,004) < a (0,05) sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa model Learning Cycle 7E berpengaruh terhadap keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa (HOTS).

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan proses sains siswa kelas V SD Muhammadiyah 028 Penyasawan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dalam meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa kelas V SD Muhammadiyah Penyasawan yang berjumlah 22 peserta didik. Penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus pembelajaran. Setiap siklus terdiri dari dua pertemuan dan empat tahap pembelajaran yaitu: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa dokumentasi, observasi, dan tes. Sedangkan teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis kualitatif dan analisis kuantitatif. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh hasil keterampilan proses sains siswa kelas V SD Muhammadiyah 028 Penyasawan pada pratindakan 36%. Pada siklus I pertemuan I dengan persentase ketuntasan belajar 55% dan pada siklus I pertemuan II mengalami peningkatan dengan persentase 68%. Pada siklus II pertemuan I mengalami peningkatan juga dengan ketuntasan belajar 77%, dan pada siklus II pertemuan II mengalami peningkatan lagi dengan persentase ketuntasan belajar 86%. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains kelas V SD Muhammadiyah 028 Penyasawan.

Abstract

This research uses qualitative research. This research was conducted at the sixth grade of SD 006 Langgini. This research is aimed to determine the ability of English vocabulary mastery to sixth grade students in the first semester. This class is the youngest of the three classes in which class 6A consists of 29 students, class 6B consist of 26 students, and class 6C consist of 30 students. This study uses purposive sampling technique, the sample of this research is class 6C, which consist of 30 students. Based on the results finding of the research, it can be concluded that there are 13% of students who get the very good category in mastering English vocabulary. 13% of students get good category, 23% students get enough category, 34% of students get less category, and 17% students get bad category.

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether there is an effect of using video as media on the students’ listening comprehension in an online class in the academic year 2020/2021. This research is pre-experimental. It involved 24 students in class. The class was taught by using video as media as the treatment in the class. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using the T-test formula. The result shows that the students listening comprehension in the post-test are higher than pre-test. The data analysis can be seen in many students who get a good score in the class by using video. It can be concluded that video in teaching listening comprehension in an online class is an influential media. As aresult, ??????is 7,03 and ??????is 1,68. In this case, the average score is 72. The use of video for listening comprehension is one of the alternative media in online class.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a critical component of academic achievement, yet many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners face challenges in processing complex texts. This study investigates the impact of visual information-based reading materials on improving comprehension among Indonesian EFL university students. A mixed-methods, cross-sectional design was employed over three academic semesters. A total of 228 students were assigned to either an experimental group, which received reading materials incorporating visual elements, or a control group, which received text-only materials. Quantitative data were collected using standardized comprehension assessments, while qualitative insights were gathered through student reflections and interviews. The experimental group demonstrated significantly higher performance in literal comprehension compared to the control group (p 0.05, Cohen’s d = 0.81), indicating a large effect size. Qualitative data reinforced these findings, revealing that visual aids enhanced student engagement, understanding, and information retention. The integration of visual elements into reading materials effectively supports comprehension in EFL contexts. Visual information appears to reduce cognitive load and facilitate meaning-making, particularly in learners processing texts in a non-native language. Visual-enhanced reading materials significantly improve literal comprehension among Indonesian EFL university students. These findings underscore the importance of incorporating visual literacy strategies in EFL pedagogy and call for further research into interactive and digital visual tools to support reading comprehension.

Abstract

Speaking is a productive skill that involves communicative performance. To be able to speak in English for Senior High School students are difficult. It is found that at SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. Students are struggling with clear pronunciation and appropriate vocabulary when describing objects due to limited use of learning media and reliance on textbooks, resulting in low English speaking skills at SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. The objective of the study is to find out the effect of personal description board game towards students’ speaking skill at tenth grade of SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. The researcher use a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach which uses the SPSS program to process data. The researcher chose two classes as the sample. The X-10 class, as the experimental class consists of 33 students and the X-9 class, as the control class, consists of 32 students. The instrument of this research is speaking test. In collecting data, the researcher used pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Technique of data analysis used normality test, homogeneity test and T-test. The result showed t-table score obtained = 1.66 and significant score was 0.000. Because the score of t calculation 4.711 > t-table 1.66 and significant score of 0.000 < α = 0.05, then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. This means that the post-test score of experimental class compared to that in the control class was different. In conclusion, Personal Description board game had effect on students speaking skill at tenth grade of SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota
