Abstract

Aphid is a sucking insect as a pest and vector of virus diseases plants. The aphids presence on plants are often accompanied by ants that symbiotic on aphid’s colony. Mutualism symbiosis between ants and aphids can hinder natural enemies especially parasitoids to parasitizing aphids. This study aims to explore parasitoid and ant species associated with aphids and determine the level of parasitoid parasitization. The survey was conducted on agricultural crops and weeds in West Java area. Samples were taken by purposive sampling looking at the aphid presence, ant, and mummified colonies. Aphid’s identification was carried out at Insect Biosystematics Laboratory, Department of Plant Protection IPB, whileparasitoid and ant identification was carried out at Entomology Laboratory of Zoology LIPI. The identification results obtained four species of Hymenoptera parasitoid, i.e Adialythus ambiguus, Aphidius matricariae, Praon absinthi (Braconidae) and Psyllaephagus pilossus (Encyrtidae) and eight species of ants of Formicidae family, i.e Dolichoderus sp, Dolichoderus thoracicus, Monomorium destructor, Monomorium floricola, Myrmicaria brunnea, Pheidole javana, Polyrhachis dives, and Technomyrmex albipes. The dominant parasitoid species found was A. matricariae, but the highest level of parasitization was P. pilossus (78%), parasites Rhopalosiphum padi in rice plants. Basic information on the types of ants and parasitoid insects associated with aphids can be used in the development of aphids integrated pest management strategies.

Abstract

Ulat grayak Spodoptera frugiperda merupakan hama baru di Indonesia yang merusak pertanaman jagung dan jenis tanaman Poaceae lainnya, termasuk padi. Hama ini diketahui bersifat polifag, sehingga dapat menyerang jenis tanaman lainnya apabila populasinya sudah banyak dan lingkungan yang mendukung. Desa Ganjar Sabar, Kecamatan Nagreg memiliki lahan pertanian yang cukup luas dengan komoditi utamanya jagung dan padi. Petani setempat umumnya menanam jagung yang disertai tanaman hortikultura seperti mentimun atau kacang panjang sebagai tanaman pinggiran. Pengetahuan dan pemahaman mengenai hama invasif perlu dilakukan supaya pengendalian dan pecegahan dapat dilakukan sebelum kerugian terjadi. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman petani mengenai ulat grayak Spodoptera frugiperda dan cara mengatasi serangannya. Kegiatan ini terintegrasi dengan KKN Unpad Tahun 2020, yang dilakukan secara daring. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui teknik wawancara dengan petani dan pengisian kuisioner, pengamatan lapangan, webinar, dan evaluasi.  Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dan pengisian kuisioner, bahwa sekitar 60% petani di Desa Ganjar Sabar sudah mengetahui keberadaan ulat grayak Frugiperda (UGF) melalui petugas Pengendali Organisme Pengganggu Tanaman (POPT) setempat namun, mereka belum mengetahui ciri-ciri pembeda antara UGF dengan ulat grayak lainnya. Tingkat kerusakan yang disebabkan hama ini berkisar (10-50%), dan teknik pengendalian yang mereka gunakan saat ini adalah pengendalian secara mekanik dan kimia.

Abstract

Rhopalosiphum rufiabdominale (Sasaki) and Tetraneura nigriabdominalis (Sasaki) are aphid species found in the roots of rice plants. Information about the host range and biology of R. rufiabdominale is relatively known than T. nigriabdominalis. This study aims to determine the biology and demographic statistics of R. rufiabdominale and T. nigriabdominalis in the roots of rice plants. The aphids obtained from lowland rice roots in Leuwiliang, Bogor Regency were maintained and reared in Ciherang variety rice roots in the laboratory. Each individual of the 1st instar aphid nymph in the same cohort was infested into the roots of rice in 60 plastic containers for biological observations and statistical demographic variable data collection. Survivorship (lx), fecundity (mx), and the average number of nymphs born by adult every day at age (x) are used to calculate demographic statistical parameters. The results showed that the two species of the aphids have 4 nymph instars. Life cycle and longevity of R. rufiabdominale were 4.98 days and 15.94 days with fecundity of 67.44 respectively, whereas the life cycle and longevity of T. nigriabdominalis were 5.25 days and 18.11 days with fecundity of 11.11 respectively. R. rufiabdominale aphids have an intrinsic growth rate (r) of 0.46 days and a doubling time (DT) of 1.50 days, whereas T. nigriabdominalis has an intrinsic growth rate of 0.14 days and a doubling time of 4.99 days. The results of this study indicate that although the life cycle lengths of the two species are almost the same, the population of R. rufiabdominale develops 3.5 times faster than T. nigriabdominalis and therefore R. rufiabdominale has the potential to become an more important pest in rice plants.

Abstract

The papaya mealybug (Paracoccus marginatus) Williams & Granara de Wilink (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is a main pest of papaya plants. Attacks by these pests can cause plants failed to produce the fruit and even to death. The usual control technique used by farmers is the use of synthetic pesticides that have a negative impact on human health and the environment. The alternative to control using botanical insecticides is a good solution to control the population of P. marginatus. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of neem seed oil formulation and bitung to know which treatments with concentrations are most effective in reducing the population density of papaya mealybug pests. The experiment took place in Rejasari Village, Langensari Subdistrict, Banjar City, West Java, from March 2021 to July 2021. Experiment using the Randomized Block Design consisted of ten treatments with three replications. The results were obtained that a formulation of bitung 3% could suppress the densities of papaya mealybug ( P. marginatus) populations at 65%. The average weight of the resulting papaya contained a 3% formulation of bitung found at 9.8 kg/tree. botanical pesticides of bitung oil 3% can be used instead of synthetic pesticides to control the population of P.marginatus.

Abstract

Kabupaten Bandung merupakan daerah dengan lahan pertanian produksi jagung yang terluas di Jawa Barat yang tersebar di wilayah timur Kabupaten Bandung di antaranya Nagreg. Lahan pertanian jagung tentu tidak terlepas dari adanya serangan hama seperti yang terjadi di Kecamatan Nagreg. Pemahaman petani dalam mengenal jenis hama dan gejala serangannya perlu diberikan untuk dapat mengantisipasi apabila terjadi serangan hama. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini ialah untuk memberikan pendampingan kepada petani dalam mengenali dan memahami perilaku hama pada tanaman jagung. Pengetahuan tersebut menjadi dasar dalam mengambil keputusan teknik pengendalian yang tepat dan cepat untuk menghindari kerusakan yang tinggi pada tanaman jagung. Untuk mengetahui dasar pengetahuan petani dilakukan pengisian kuesioner terhadap 21 petani di Desa Mekar Wargi, serta menganalisis hasil kuesioner. Hasil kuesinoner menunjukan bahwa sebagian besar petani sudah mengetahui hama utama pada tanaman jagung, namun belum memahami gejala serangan dan inang alternatif dari hama tersebut. Proses pendampingan oleh tim pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan berupa pertemuan hybrid dan memberikan modul pengenalan hama jagung kepada petani. Harapannya modul tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai acuan dan transfer ilmu kepada petani dalam mengenal jenis dan gejala serangan hama pada areal jagung mereka
