Abstract

Literary reception is a literary genre that examines literary texts by considering the reader as the giver of the welcome or response. Researchers choose to analyze literary receptions in Shakespeare's plays, namely "Romeo and Juliet" and "Macbeth" as an interesting source of data to be studied and analyzed more deeply because of the difficulty of readers in responding to a literary work. This study aims to determine the reader's response to the two plays by Shakespeare. The data source of this research is the play script of "Romeo and Juliet" and "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. This study uses Iser’s Reception theory with instruments in the form of documentation and observation studies because this research is reviewed by noting and marking the parts that are considered important and useful for the reader. Based on the results of this study, it is clear that there are reader responses in Shakespeare's plays. Then the results of the research are in the form of a questionnaire containing nine questions with excellent answers or responses from readers in engaging the two plays by Shakespeare.

Abstract

The present study aims to examine the current practices, constraints, and potential enablers when assessing students' listening skills in Indonesian Islamic higher education EFL classrooms. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study research design. The selection of the participants used purposive sampling. The study used interviews as a data gathering technique, involving six EFL lecturers in one Indonesian Islamic higher education institution in South Sulawesi. The findings show participants’ awareness of the various alternative methods to assess students’ listening skills. However, their discussions tend to focus on what is easiest to use as opposed to what matters most for students’ listening skills. Furthermore, participants’ descriptions of EFL lecturers’ constraints in assessing listening skills encompass various educational aspects, which could be classified into resources and practical constraints. The former includes a lack of representative language laboratories and learning resources for conducting quality listening assessment practices. The latter relates to time constraints, auditory surroundings, and designing and developing listening assessment instruments. Therefore, the participants raised several key strategies to enhance quality listening assessment practices, ranging from resources to practical strategies. This includes a high quality and sufficient quantity of educational resources, the use of diverse and authentic assessment tasks, and more collaborative work to share best practices and experience in conducting quality listening assessment practices. These findings imply the need for reformulation of existing practices and policies related to foreign language assessment that could have significant impacts on EFL students, teachers, and classrooms.

Abstract

Pengaruh Penggunaan Alat Peraga Smart Trash Bin Terhadap Pemahaman Konsep Fisika Materi Teknologi Digital. The purpose of this study is to determine the understanding of the concept of digital technology classes taught and not taught using smart trash bin props, knowing the difference in understanding the concept of digital technology classes taught and not taught using smart trash bin props. The type of research is experimental with a posttest-only control design. The instrument used tests the understanding of concepts. Data analysis techniques use descriptive and inferential analysis. The average score of concept comprehension test results in classes taught using smart trash bin props was 80.42, with a very high category, while in classes that were not taught using smart trash bin props, it was 76.04, with a high category. The average value of the concept understanding test results taught with smart trash bin props is greater than the average value of the concept understanding test results that are not taught using smart trash bin props, so it can be concluded that the use of smart trash bin tools has a positive influence on the understanding of the concept of digital technology material. Meanwhile, the results of hypothetical testing obtained a significant value of 0.194 > 0.05, meaning that there was no significant difference in understanding of concepts between classes taught and not taught using smart trash bin props.

Abstract

The persistence of religious literary practices in local Muslim communities remains underexplored, particularly in explaining how such traditions sustain social meaning, identity, and cultural adaptation in contemporary contexts. This study examines the practice of reciting the Barzanji book in Lapeo Village, Polewali Mandar Regency, Indonesia as a socio-religious phenomenon reflecting an ongoing process of acculturation between Arabic literary tradition and local Mandar culture. The research aims to explain the mechanisms underlying the sustained use of Arabic in Barzanji recitation and its role in shaping and reinforcing the community’s religious identity. An explanatory qualitative design was employed to capture the depth and complexity of the phenomenon. Data were collected through in depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis guided by reception theory, lived religion perspective, and acculturation theory. The findings indicate that Arabic functions as a symbol of sacred authority, strengthening the perceived legitimacy and authenticity of the ritual. Collective recitation operates as a mechanism of social cohesion, fostering solidarity and shared religious sentiment. The incorporation of local material symbols reflects a contextual process of cultural interpretation and adaptation. Furthermore, Barzanji serves as a form of nonformal religious education that transmits moral exemplars associated with the Prophet Muhammad. Overall, the study demonstrates that Barzanji constitutes a living religious literary practice and a dynamic socio-symbolic mechanism of religious acculturation in constructing Mandar Muslim identity.

Abstract

This mentoring activity aims to strengthen the capacity of scientific journal managers at Institut Agama Islam DDI Polewali Mandar, STIBA Makassar, Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam DDI Makassar and Universitas Islam Ahmad Dahlan (UIAD) Sinjai in understanding and implementing the National Journal Accreditation (ARJUNA) standards. The mentoring program is carried out in stages through identifying the initial conditions of the journal, evaluating editorial governance, analyzing the quality of article substance, and training and practice in journal management based on Open Journal Systems (OJS). The evaluation results show that most partner journals face relatively similar obstacles, including suboptimal documentation of editorial policies and publication ethics, weak implementation of peer review, limited diversity of editors and reviewers, low quality of article readability, and inconsistent publication schedules. Further mentoring is directed at strengthening ARJUNA's literacy through the implementation of journal quality improvement strategies that adhere to best practices for SINTA 2-accredited journals. These strategies include developing more transparent and standardized journal policies, optimizing editor and reviewer functions, implementing a systematic and documented editorial process, improving article quality through stricter manuscript selection, and refining journal metadata and presentation. These activities have positive implications not only for the technical and administrative aspects of journal management but also for shifting the governance paradigm toward a more strategic, sustainable, and quality-oriented system. Therefore, this mentoring is a crucial part of the institutional learning process in preparing partner journals to improve their accreditation rankings toward SINTA 2.
