Abstract

One  of  the  most  important  aspects  of  the  language  use  is  in  the  people’s implicature  that  can  be  shown  in  the  conversation.  As  in  fact,  many students  do not understand the conversational maxims that cause the implicature. Based on its background,  this  study  uses  a  novel  entitled  “Harry  Potter  and  the  Sorcerer’s Stone” to enrich the understanding of conversational maxims. This study has two purposes. The first is to identify the maxims which flout the cooperative principle in term of meanings. The second is to identity the speech act of each implicature. The  method  used  in  this  study  was  descriptive  qualitative  with  cooperative principle analysis approach. The objects of the study were the conversations. The findings show  that  there  are  47.4%  conversations  which  flout  quaqntity  maxim; 13.2% conversations which flout quality maxim; 31.6% conversations which flout relevance maxim and 7.9% conversations which flout manner maxim. Meanwhile the  next  finding  related  to  the  speech  act.  There  are  expressive,  directive  and representative. It  is  suggested  that  these  findings  can  be  used  as  a recommendation for researchers to use other novels as the object of the study and other  point  of  view,  such  as  to  describe and  explain  the  level  of  difficulty  in  the conversational maxims. Keywords: speech act, cooperative principle, novel

Abstract

Cooperative  Principle  is  a  principle  which  used  to  become  an  effective  communication.  It  often appears in the conversation. Cooperative Principle  was proposed by Grice in 1975. It consists of four maxims in the conversation. Those are quantity maxim, quality maxim, relevance maxim and manner  maxim.  The  observance  of  the  four  maxims  used  in  order  to  gain  the  meaningful conversation. Novel entitled  “Harry Potter  dan Batu  Bertuah”  is one  of the  most popular novels. The conversations among the characters in that novel is interesting to be analyzed. The purposes of the study are to identify the maxims which observe the cooperative principle in term of meanings. The  method  used  in  this  study  was  descriptive  qualitative  with  cooperative  principle  analysis approach.  The  objects  of  the  study  were  43  conversations.  To  analyze  the  conversations  which observe the maxims are done by interpreting the meanings of the conversation. The findings of the conversations which observe the cooperative principle are as follow: 60.5% utterances observe the maxim of quantity; 16.3%  utterances observe the  maxim of relevance; 16.3%  utterances  observe the  maxim  of  manner  and  7%  utterances  observe  the  maxim  of  quality. The  finding  is  also suggested as a recommendation in the teaching learning process for the advanced learner level and the  senior  high  school  level. This  findings  can  be  applied  in  the  advanced  learner  level  in transferring  the  material  of  speaking.  Another  recommendation  is  suggested  for  the  senior  high school level in the English subject. It can be applied in the discussion of the material and question and answer session between the teacher and the students.Keywords: speech act, conversation, cooperative principle

Abstract

English as an international language is used by all people in all cauntries. Based on the result of the observation to the English teacher of SMP N 4 Batang, there were so many students who had difficulties in reading comprehension of Descriptive text. The students got lack of vocabulary. This study was aimed to know the effectiveness of strategy Preview, Question, Read, Summarize and Test (PQRST) assisted by Picture Strip Story in reading comprehension of Descriptive text. The method used in this study was experimental study. The total sample in this research was 66 students  who  were  divided  into  two  group.  Control  group  consisted  of  33  students  and experimental group consisted of 33 students. The finding can be seen in the comparation between the mean score of pre test and post test in control group and experiment one. The writer found that the mean of pre-test was 63.636 and the mean of post-test was 74.848. It means that there was effect by looking at increasing the average score. In other words, the mean of pre-test and also post-test showed a significant improvement. for the control group, the mean score of pre-test was63.030 and the post-test was 65.909. The result of this group was less than the experimental group. It also be  proven by T Test of post test was 3.326. It means that t test was higher that t-table (1.666). It can be concluded that teaching learning process of reading comprehension of Descriptive text using PQRST strategy assisted by Picture Strip Story was effective. It is suggested that the finding can be the contribution in teaching learning process of reading comprehension. It is one of the media that can be used to teach reading. It can motivate the students when studying ina group.

Abstract

This research was aimed at describing what learning styles dominate the students' reading and writing abilities and how E-6tslearning improve the the fourth semester students’ reading and writing skills of the English Language Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Pekalongan University. The writer used classroom action research (CAR) with 28 students as samples. The writer used planning, acting, observing and reflecting cycles. The writer used questionnaires to determine students’ learning styles and their satisfaction with the use of E-6tslearning and tests to measure their reading and writing skills. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that there were three learning styles; those were visual, auditory and kinesthetic. From the results of the comparison of pre-test and post-test, students with kinesthetic learning styles experienced the best improvement of all, the visual group was the second one and the auditory group got the lowest achievement. The results of the pre-test and post-test comparison show an improvement in students' skills and motivation. This proves that the use of e-6tslearning can improve students' reading and writing skills. The results of the questionnaire analysis of student satisfaction on the use of e-6tslearning shows that learning by using e-6tslearning, students can improve their reading and writing skills and digital literacy. They can learn with fun with and without lecturer’s assistance.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (a) untuk mesdeskripsikan keautentikan dari latihan membaca yang ada di buku paket Bahasa Inggris kelas 12 terbitan Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia, dan (b) untuk mendeskripsikan kesesuaian dari latihan membaca yang ada di buku paket Bahasa Inggris kelas 12 terbitan Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia terhadap kompetensi dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitaif untuk menginvestigasi data dan analisis konten untuk menganalisis keautentikan dan kesesuaian dari latihan membaca yang ada di buku paket terhadap keautentikan dari Brown dan kompetensi dasar. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa latihan membaca yang ada di buku paket Bahasa Inggris kelas 12 terbitan Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia tidak seluruhnya masuk kedalam lima poin keautentikan dari Brown, karena dari 32 tugas hanya 25 tugas yang memenuhi persyaratan dari teori Brown. Tugas-tugas tersebut memiliki bahasa yang alami, butir soal berhubungan dengan konteks daripada terisolasi, topik yang diberikan berarti untuk siswa, beberapa penyususnan tematik untuk butir soal disediakan dan tugas yang diberikan ada di dunia nyata. Kemudian tidak semuanya sesuai dengan kompetensi dasar yang tertulis, karena dari 32 tugas hanya 9 tugas yang sesuai dengan semua kompetensi dasar, mulai dari judul materi, isi materi dan aktivitas-aktivitas dari yang ada pada tugas.Kata kunci: Keautentikan, Latihan Membaca, Contoh dari Brown, Kompetensi Dasar

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan salah satu hal yang penting dalam kehidupan. Era pendidikan online saat ini merupakan istilah yang cocok dengan digalakannya teknologi secara online dalam kegiatan pembelajaran, tak terkecuali dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Kecanggihan teknologi juga memberikan dampak secara langsung bagi para guru sebagai fasilitator pendidikan. Para guru tersebut dituntut untuk tetap mampu menjadi fasilitator pembelajaran dengan tidak mengenyampingkan penerapan metode Student Centered Learning (SCL). Mengapa demikian? Hal ini dikarenakan, SCL merupakan suatu metode yang menjadikan peserta didik sebagai pusat pembelajaran. Salah satu strategi pembelajaran dalam SCL ini adalah Jigsaw.Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah melakukan pendampingan kepada para guru dalam mengimplementasikan media online dengan fasilitas jigsaw di dalam sebuah pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Metode pelaksanaan dalam kegiatan ini adalah sosialisasi, pelatihan, pendampingan dan evaluasi. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah pelaksanaan pendampingan telah berjalan lancar. Pendampingan tersebut dilaksanakan secara daring dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dengan menggunakan metode Jigsaw dengan menggunakan aplikasi E-Coole. Setiap tahapan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan secara efektif. Pada tahap akhir dilakukan evaluasi. Evaluasi tersebut diberikan kepada para guru dan peserta didik. Berdasarkan tahap evaluasi, diperoleh informasi bahwa melalui kegiatan pendampingan ini ditemukan hasil berupa adanya peningkatan kualitas para guru dalam mengoperasikan media online dengan strategi jigsaw yang ada di dalamnya. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat menambah referensi dan pilihan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dengan menggunakan metode Jigsaw ada di dalam aplikasi E-Coole.

Abstract

Pedagogy competence is the main competence that must be owned by educators. Moreover, mastering science and technology are also important for educator to support the pedagogical competence. Based on the result of situation analysis, the data showed that the teaching learning model used by junior high school English teacher in Pekalongan regency was Teacher centered leaning (TCL).  Moreover, it was implemented without adequate technological support. Thus, that kind of learning pattern seemed monotonous and can reduce students’ interest in learning English. The solutions for the problems were : (a) applying cooperative method in learning (b) offering E-Coole (E-Cooperative learning) which is a web-based combination of cooperative learning and E-learning, the application focused on group Investigastion (GI). The stages in this PKM was carried out though several series, those were : (a) socialization, it was intended to introduce and explain PKM program to PKM partner. (b). training to provide definitions and basic concept of E-Coole. (C) mentoring teachers’ activities it was intended to implement E-Coole for grup Investigation, (d) evaluation to measure the abitily of teachers in using E-coole application with grup investigation strategy. The result of this PKM in this article included : (a) an understanding of PKM activities organized by PKM team and subject of PKM, namely the English MGMP Junior High school in Pekalongan regency, (b) PKM participants understood the definitions and basic concept  of E-Coole, (c) the mentoring activities run smoothly in schools with a focus on group investigation strategies (d) there was an increase in the ability of teachers to master and use E-Coole application with Group Investigation strategy. Key words : E-Coole, training and mentoring, Group Investigation strategy

Abstract

One of the implementations of 2013 curriculum in the learning process is the Scientific Approach. The stages of implementing the scientific approach are observing, asking, associating, reasoning, testing, processing, formulating and presenting. During pandemic situation like this, the learning process takes place online. Whether teachers like it or not, it is required them to change the habit of teaching face to face with online learning. Several challenges and problems emerged in the teaching and learning process, one of them was difficulty of applying scientific approach methods in online learning. This was also experienced by the teachers of SMP N 1 Kedungwuni Pekalongan. The teachers have difficulty in applying scientific approach in learning process and have not maximized the use of online learning applications. Based on the problem above, PKM team provided a solution, the solution was E-COSAL training for teachers of SMP N 1 Kedungwuni Pekalongan. The training was carried out in several steps, namely socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation. After PKM activity was held, the teachers of SMP N 1 Kedungwuni Pekalongan, were able to improve their knowledge and skills, especially in the application of scientific approaches online and also the operation of E-COSAL. Keywords : E-COSAL, Scientific Approach, Socialization, Training; Mentoring, evaluation

Abstract

This research used a research object in the form of movie entitled Hidden Figures. The research had more attention in the study of patriarchal culture in woman characters in that film. Patriarchal culture is a culture which focuses in the theory with a feminist approach. That theory emphasizes in the power of stratification and privilege based on gender. This research aimed to describe how patriarchal culture reflected in Hidden Figures movie. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research design in this research. The data of this research was in the form of utterances. Those utterances were utterances delivered among the characters in that movie. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted a library study. In analyzing the data, the researcher used a feminist approach. The researcher found that patriarchal culture which reflected in Hidden Figures Movie was identified into four kinds of patriarchy types. Those were characters, setting, ploting and conflict.
