Abstract

The high density of cities encourages efforts to create ecological balance, one of which is through the implementation of roof gardens. Roof garden research began with the exploration of its benefits for energy management and currently still can be studied to find a more thorough criteria of applicable roof gardens. Following the growth of the sustainable movement, there is a high need to create design criteria on the basis of eco-design, incorporating environmental aspects to reduce environmental impacts. This concept has been integrated into green building practices through the use of ‘Greenship rating tools’, however, the criteria for roof gardens have not been comprehensively outlined. Therefore, this research aims to: 1) identify and determine the priority level of the criteria as the key to evaluate eco-design implementation in roof gardens; and 2) develop implementation strategies based on the significance of various alternative decisions from experts. This research was conducted by using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method through the assessment of selected experts. This research shows that, by hierarchy, the key criteria of eco-design in roof gardens based on significance are: water management (24,4%), vegetation (23,0%), roof garden physical aspects (13,2%), technology (11,5%), management aspect (11,5%), building physical aspect (11,1%), and user behavior (5,3%). The strategy to implement eco-design in roof gardens would be best implemented by several strategies involving: 1) development of a comprehensive roof design concept, 2) the use of environmentally friendly technology and materials; and 3) efficient resource management.

Abstract

Arisan Buntal Village is a small village in South Sumatra's Ogan Komering Ilir district. Duku (Lansium domesticum Corr) is a highly valued commodity in Arisan Buntal. The most significant barrier to straw development in Arisan Buntal is a need for high-quality seeds. Duku are traditionally grown; therefore, they take a long time to produce fruit. As a result, more advanced stitching techniques, such as the grafting technique, are required. However, because the youth of Arisan Buntal knew nothing about it and did not practice it, they tended to abandon the attempt down the business. This activity seeks to provide instruction in the Samsung puck technique production to the Arisan Buntal youth, allowing them to get superior duke crops and encouraging the sustainability of duke crops at the activity site. The evaluation of the activities revealed that the training participants improved their knowledge of duku-related commodities and grafting techniques. The post-test findings showed that 100% of the participants were aware of Arisan Buntal Village's potential as a hub for the growth of duku farming and the clamping method for duku crops. Furthermore, as many as 94% of participants had already tried the procedure with the assistance of specialists. Furthermore, the percentage of participants who prefer to apply the grafting method to the front has increased from 76.5% to 91.7%. The observation shows that the success rate of this technique reached 80%.

Abstract

This is an evaluation of roadside greenery. This evaluation was held in five main road in IPB Darmaga Campus. The aim of this activity is to identify and assess the condition of roadside greenery in IPB Darmaga. This activity was conducted as one part of the series efforts to optimize the effectiveness of roadside greenery function. The evaluation results can be used as a material consideration in the development of streetscape further. Evaluate the condition of roadside greenery by considering five aspects, such as: (1) road type and position on the road, (2) landscape regulatory and road geometry, (3) characteristics and plant growth requirements, (4) the desired function of planting and (5) psychological effects that expected from planting . They are five aspects consideration in the street scape plants application, that has been formulated by Lestari (2005). The comparative method was used to measure suitability and compatibility roadside greenery in Kampus IPB Darmaga based on landscape regulations that contained in five aspects above. Based on them, the evaluation found an information that many planting design of roadside greenery in IPB Darmaga Campus is less accordance with the planting design guidelines and principles. This was caused by disruptions due to the planting design that is too diverse in plant species selection without an appropriate arrangement with the environment. Recommended solutions to overcome this problem is by creating a more organized and themed planting design. It is more supportive for realization of the desired planting function. Recommended theme in this case is a theme that support campus visual and activity. The embodiment of such planting brings the consequence of the reduction, replacement, or addition by a more suitable plants. This activity is not an easy thing to do, it needs consideration for make it optimal and sustainable.

Abstract

Residential development in urban areas was requiring extensive landscape changes. This development caused the decreases of urban green land. The high rate of CO2 in the atmosphere is one impact of the reduction of green land in urban area. The existing plants are unable to sequester the amount of CO2 in atmosphere. Plans especially trees are landscape elements which can reduce CO2 in the atmosphere through the photosynthesis process. With this research we can see and know how large the benefits of tree for carbon storage and sequestration in residential. This research was held in two residential that Bukit Cimanggu City and Yasmin, Tanah Sareal, Bogor. Analysis was done to spatial data using ArcView and CITYgreen5.4 extension. This report showed that the greater of trees canopy and trees number then the greater of the amount of carbon storage and sequestration. The result of this research are tabular data and spatial data with simulations examples of open green space (trees) from analysis area in each residential.

Abstract

Rejang is one of the original tribes of Bengkulu Province. This tribe mostly lives in the Bukit Barisan area. Some of their settlements are undergoing changes due to the rapidly growing flow of information and communication today. Conservation efforts need to be made, especially about their traditional settlement landscape model. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the character of traditional settlement landscapes and their constituent elements and compile a model of traditional settlement landscapes of the indigenous Rejang people. This research uses a descriptive method through a literature study approach, interviews, and field observations. The analysis was carried out descriptively and spatially. The landscape character of the indigenous Rejang tribe settlement is in the form of hilly landforms with land cover in the form of forests, gardens, and terraced rice fields, with the valley floor in the form of small and medium rivers. Traditional settlements stretch over ridges to mountain peaks. The character-forming features of landscapes include both natural and artificial features. Natural features consist of the elements of hills, forests, and rivers. Artificial features consist of terraced rice fields, gardens/fields, and settlements. The settlement itself includes traditional houses (including traditional chiefs' houses), circulation paths, public open spaces, and tombs. The elements that make up the Residential Garden include residential houses, rice barns (tangkiang), kitchens, fence plants, vegetable and flower plants, trees, yards, mortar (places to pound rice). Traditional ceremonial activities are held inside and outside the home, as well as communal activities such as planting and harvesting rice held in rice fields. The landscape model of the traditional settlement of the indigenous people of Rejang Lebong is linear with the center of the settlement along the main road on the ridge. The settlement is surrounded by gardens/fields and rice fields. The forest is on the outside away from settlements.
