Abstract

The self-presentation strategy is necessary in delivering dakwah (Islamic preaching) materials to make them appealing to the youth as the target audience. This study aims to interpret the selfpresentation performed by Habib Husein Ja'far through the YouTube channel Jeda Nulis. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach to provide an overview of how Habib Husein Ja'far adjusted the theme of da'wah and self-presentation according to his segmentation on Youtube. The findings of the research indicate that Habib Husein Ja'far addressed many problems that tend to be experienced by young people with a relaxed and humorous style but serious in his response. Moreover, his self-presentation portrays him as a tolerant preacher who is close to young people. This research contributes knowledge to the self-presentation of preachers on YouTube in order to be able to creatively convey da'wah in accordance with the challenges of the current era. Strategi presentasi diri diperlukan dalam menyampaikan materi dakwah agar dapat diterima anak muda sebagai target dakwah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menafsirkan presentasi diri yang dilakukan oleh Habib Husein Ja’far melalui channel Youtube Jeda Nulis. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menganalisis video dakwah Habib Husein Ja'far untuk memberikan gambaran bagaimana Habib Husein Ja'far menyesuaikan tema dakwah dan presentasi diri sesuai dengan segmentasinya di Youtube. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Habib Husein Ja'far banyak mengangkat permasalahan yang cenderung dialami oleh anak muda dengan gaya santai dan penuh candaan tapi serius dalam menjawabnya. Sedangkan presentasi diri yang dihadirkan oleh Habib Husein Ja’far adalah pendakwah yang toleran dan dekat dengan anak muda. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan pengetahuan dalam presentasi diri pendakwah di Youtube agar dapat menyampaikan dakwah secara kreatif sesuai dengan tantangan zamannya.

Abstract

The mass media helps the community with one of its information demands. Information can be accessed by the public through mass communication channels like print, electronic, and online media. People from different nations can access information at a location that is hard to go to fast and easily using online media. similar to one of the circumstances of George Floyd's passing on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, United States. George Floyd is a very hot issue in a variety of internet media, including social media, because of how quickly and easily one may access online media. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how the online news source CNN Indonesia.com presents the story about the racism controversy surrounding the American death of George Floyd (28 May-29 June 2020). The theory of Media Reality Construction and Reporting is applied in this study. Purposive sampling was employed in this study along with Robert N. Entman's framing model analytical methodology. First, the study finding indicates that racism is still pervasive in America. Second, the Trump administration has not done the best job of maximizing support for eradicating racism in the United States. Abstract

Perguruan tinggi semakin mengintegrasikan media sosial sebagai alat strategis untuk meningkatkan layanan kemahasiswaan dan interaksi dengan alumni. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan mendalam mengenai implementasi media sosial di Perguruan Tinggi Islam seperti: UIN Sunan Kalijaga, UIN Salatiga, IAIN Ponorogo, dan IAIN Kudus. Media sosial menjadi alat penting dalam memenuhi kebutuhan mahasiswa dan menjaga hubungan erat dengan alumni. Media sosial berfungsi sebagai alat publikasi yang efisien dalam membantu peningkatan visibilitas dan citra positif perguruan tinggi. Mengingat begitu pentingnya peran media sosial bagi Perguruan Tinggi, maka diperlukan analisa pengelolaan media sosial yang efektif mulai dari perencanaan yang cermat, pelaksanaan yang konsisten, evaluasi yang terus-menerus, dan tindakan korektif. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan analisis konten media sosial. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keempat perguruan tinggi tersebut secara aktif menggunakan platform media sosial, seperti Facebook, Instagram, dan Twitter, sebagai saluran komunikasi utama. Implementasi media sosial terbukti berkontribusi pada peningkatan keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam kegiatan kampus dan fasilitasi interaksi antara mahasiswa dan alumni. Penelitian ini juga mengidentifikasi tantangan seperti manajemen reputasi, masalah privasi, dan keamanan informasi yang perlu diatasi sebagai bagian efektif menggunakan media sosial untuk memperkuat layanan kemahasiswaan dan menjaga keterlibatan alumni di perguruan tinggi. Implikasi temuan dapat menjadi perspektif dalam mengembangkan strategi yang lebih baik untuk memanfaatkan potensi media sosial dalam meningkatkan kualitas layanan dan hubungan dengan stakeholder. Humas universitas berperan vital dalam menangani manajemen media sosial, tidak hanya sebagai penyedia informasi tetapi juga sebagai kunci dalam membangun visibilitas, meningkatkan layanan mahasiswa dan alumni, serta mendukung visi dan misi perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

This research focuses on women's empowerment in rural communities, specifically in the context of transformational leadership applied by Dwi Martuti Rahayu in KWT Pawon Gendis, a farm women's group in Salakmalang Village. The issue raised is how transformational leadership can be adapted and applied in a more local social context, with the aim of exploring the dimensions of transformational leadership that are effective in empowering women in the village. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis. This research showed that Dwi Martuti Rahayu successfully applied four main dimensions of transformational leadership-Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Individualized Consideration, and Intellectual Stimulation, which were instrumental in increasing women's capacity and participation in social and economic activities, visualised in the dynamics of her activities. The discussion shows that while transformational leadership theory is generally applied in the context of formal organizations, its application in rural communities has proven effective, with the important caveat that it must be tailored to local needs and challenges. The research make a significant contribution to the development of transformational leadership-based empowerment models in rural contexts and potentially pave the way for further research in this area.

Abstract

Middle January 2021, the death toll related to the Covid-19 pandemic reached 2 million people, and nearly 26 thousand people were recorded in Indonesia. The struggle of the Indonesian government to reduce the number of victims of COVID-19 by bringing the Sinovac vaccine and vaccinations to the community. Pros and cons occur in response to the covid-19 Vaccination with this Sinovac vaccine. The government's public communication strategy through influencers with many followers on Instagram is an option. The election of Instagram as Social media for vaccination communication is because Instagram is the most up-to-date social media, and it is easy to provide understanding because it involves information in the form of visuals and text to the public. In carrying out vaccination communications, these influencers create messages or information that are organic or organic. Amplified Word of Mouth so that vaccination communication can reach the community simultaneously. The subjects studied in this study were influencer accounts (@arielnoah and @dr. Tirta) which were selected by purposive sampling with qualitative research using the literature review method. The results showed that the influencers in each post on vaccination communication activities in the form of distributing content and information in the feed room, likes, and giving comments showed that vaccination communication activities carried out identity politics. Influencers on Instagram understand health and responsibility. The results of this study provide an overview of how influencers on their Instagram carry out impression management to convince the public that vaccines are safe and try to refer to the government's public campaign regarding covid-19 Vaccination.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between democracy, media independence, and citizen journalism during Joko Widodo’s administration. Within the media ecosystem, the press plays a crucial role as an information provider, a social control mechanism, and the fourth pillar of democracy. However, during Jokowi’s presidency, the independence of mainstream media has faced significant challenges. This study identifies that mainstream media in Indonesia have experienced a distortion of independence due to political intervention, media ownership affiliations with those in power, and various regulations that suppress press freedom. This study employs a qualitative approach using Critical Discourse Analysis, allowing data collection from multiple sources, including mainstream media, social media platforms, as well as legal and academic documents. The findings show that democracy and press independence have declined during Jokowi's era. Although citizen journalism provides a new space for freedom of expression, challenges remain in the form of legal threats, political intervention, and difficulties in maintaining information credibility. Therefore, further efforts are required to strengthen press freedom, including regulatory reforms and the enhancement of an independent media ecosystem, to ensure that democracy in Indonesia can develop more robustly. The strategy of diversifying income to reduce dependence on capital owners, government advertising, or conglomerates with political interests is the ideal theory and practice to be offered to the press in the future.

Abstract

This research analyzes how the Squid Game series utilizes queer coding as a semiotic strategy to insert LGBTQ+ representations in the context of South Korean culture which is still dominated by heteronormative norms. Using a qualitative approach and visual semiotic analysis based on the theories of gender performativity (Butler), cultural myth (Barthes), and the concept of representation (Stuart Hall), this study identifies four forms of queer coding: predatory aesthetics, ambivalent queer heroism, gender ambiguous bodies, and symbolic resistance. The findings show that queer coding in Squid Game is ambivalent and can challenge patriarchal norms, while simultaneously reproducing stereotypes and deviance. The analysis also reveals that queer coding operates in a tug-of-war between political resistance, global market demands, and local cultural censorship. This research contributes to the global discourse on LGBTQ+ representations in non-Western popular media, and opens up space for critical reflection on how queer aesthetics are commodified in contemporary entertainment capitalism.

Abstract

This study analyses the symbolic meaning of Javanese banners warning of the danger of COVID-19 in Yogyakarta using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The analysis includes three stages: denotation, connotation and myth. The messages on the banners contain clear literal meanings about lockdowns and the coronavirus, and reflect people's frustrations and concerns about social restrictions. At the mythic level, the banners reinforce cultural narratives of resilience and communal co-operation. Javanese society has a long-standing culture. The use of Javanese language demonstrates an emphasis on local values and strengthens community ties. This study confirms the importance of health communication that resonates with local culture in improving community adherence to health measures. These messages not only disseminate information but also shape collective identity amidst the pandemic.
