Abstract

Despite the extensive research on the negotiation of meaning (NoM) using unfocused tasks, to our knowledge no study portrays to what extent NoM contributes to learners’ language accuracy, grammar, and vocabulary, in particular, using a focused task. Therefore, this research set out to obtain in-depth information about the contribution of NoM to language accuracy when learners were assigned to engage in a focused task discussion. The participants, treated as three dyads based on their English proficiency, were taken purposely from one class of the sixth-semester students in the Department of English Education in the Faculty of Education at Universitas Lampung, Indonesia. They were paired based on their English abilities (high-high; high-low; low-low) and their intimates among the 24 students in the class. All their utterances produced during a fifteen-minute focused task discussion were recorded and analyzed following the theory of NoM and language accuracy. It was discovered that the learners were engaged in NoM during the focused task discussion, and it contributes to the students’ language accuracy. Therefore, to optimize the contribution of NoM to language accuracy, the topic to be discussed should be based on the learners’ output (focused task) since the interlocutor can offer assistance as part of the negotiation of meaning process. The suggestions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract

The development of scientific learning models is now growing rapidly, including the project based learning program with the aim of Edpuzzle in increasing student learning outcomes. The research was conducted to know the learning outcomes of students through the project based learning assisted Edpuzzle-. A good learning model is a type of learning that enable student to improve outcomes learning with the help of information technology. The research method in this research is in the form of the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method. Data were collected by reviewing national journals that have been accredited by Sinta and Google Scholar. Information selection was carried out by analyzing all articles about the project based and Edpuzzle in the 2015-2022 timeframe. The articles selected in this review are 10 articles found from Google Scholar and SINTA .The result of this study are the type of learning Project Based Learning (PBL) Edpuzzle in individual or group learning processes to improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The speaking learning model with communicative approach has been widely adopted in various countries as a method of learning English because speaking learning with communicative approach proved effective to facilitate students actively involved in the learning process of English, especially speaking. The effectiveness / success of speaking learning by communicative approach as a way of English education in helping students improve speaking skills is evidenced by the discovery of some research tried in various countries where English as a foreign language. However, in Indonesia this method is still not popular and very few teachers or practitioners apply this method. Therefore, this community service activity aims to help English teachers in South Lampung Regency improve insight and knowledge about the development / creation of a speaking learning model based on communicative approach through training and workshops by presenting material development of task-based speaking teaching materials theoretically; and conduct simulations of the development of task-based speaking teaching materials. The results of the training showed that the participants of this training gained real efficacy is an increase in professionalism in order to be able to correct the quality of the English education process, especially speaking so that the dialogue skills of students in schools face an increase. Prolonged similar training in the future still really needs to be tried.

However, most English teachers do not yet understand the method of learning English based on task complexity so they lack confidence in applying the method.. Therefore, this community service activity aims to increase insight and knowledge about the development / creation of a speaking learning model based on cognitive factor engineering (task complexity). This activity will target English teachers at high school / vocational school in Pringsewu Regency and is expected to improve their professionalism to improve the quality of the English learning process, especially speaking. This activity will be carried out with lecture methods, discussions, practices, and simulations that will begin with a pre-test and end with a post-test. Based on initial and final abilities, there are quite real differences before and after the training is done. To that end, this training has been able to improve the insight and Manufacture of Teaching Materials Based on Cognitive Factor Engineering (Task Complexity). Some participants showed that the enthusiasm and belief of the participants that the Manufacture of Speaking Teaching Materials Based on Cognitive Factor Engineering (Task Complexity) has a positive impact to develop students' ability to master their English learning in the classroom.
