Humans have gone through many incidents, both good and bad experiences, and sometimes these experiences are shared with others in the form of stories. The stories, as one of the forms of literary works, would be nothing without the created characters within them because they provide the viewers with a purpose and a reason for us to learn about what happens in the story. Besides, they act as one important element in the movie with various psychological effects. This research aims to analyze the characteristics and the hierarchy of human needs, especially esteem needs, that appear in the main character named Will Traynor in the ‘Me Before You’ movie directed by Thea Sharrock. This study uses descriptive data analysis which describes a phenomenon and the main character in the movie. The results revealed seven characters comprising the esteem needs hierarchy: sensitive, open-minded, friendly, kind, confident, humble, and stubborn. The esteem needs hierarchy is the desire to have the need to be approved, valued, and recognized to have some self-esteem. This is striking in the movie because of the status of the character, Will Traynor as a lord, and Louisa Clark who is only a maid and has no superiority over Will in her life. The findings imply the personality of humans differ in their characters and psychology as shown from the esteem needs hierarchy in Will’s personality expressing the different types of characteristics.

Children with special needs have taken wider attentions in research, especially in finding solutions of how to improve their abilities in communication. The purpose of this research is to identify the challenges and barriers in speech production in English by students with hearing impairments in Pangkalpinang City. Investigation and documentation were the main stages in collecting data. The data were studied using a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Based on the foundation of phonetic theory by Collins and Mess (2019) regarding speech production and the character of children with hearing impairment by Dennis Fry, this research is aimed at analyzing the sounds produced by children with special needs. Experimental observation using the Praat voice analyzer was carried out on students with three types of disabilities: students with vision impairment, hearing impaired, and mental or intellectual disability. The observation results showed that students with hearing impairments (partial and total deafness) were the main concern as their abilities in perceiving and producing speech gave them opportunities to communicate in English despite the barriers, they had to face in pronouncing the words. As conclusion, students with hearing impairment both partial and total deafness produced their speech based on other vocal tracts due to their disability, and certain treatment in speech production should be suggested especially the phonemes involving internal articulators, including alveolar, velar, post-alveolar and nasal sounds. Proximities made in speech showed possibilities to refine their pronunciation.

Objectives: This study aims to identify the types of personification and explain the meanings of personification in the Book of Philippians as well as explain the relationship between the meaning of personification and the entire contents of the Book of Philippians. Method: The research method used is descriptive-qualitative to collect data. Method qualitative this can used on one data time or in approach data collection during period time certain. Results: The results of this study indicate that there are 55 personification data, namely 20 noun personification data, 14 verb personification, 13 adjective personification, and 8 adverb personification. In this study, conceptual meaning has a dominant and important role because conceptual meaning is needed when the Apostle Paul conveys a message about a joyful life in the Lord Jesus, even in times of joy and sorrow for believers in Philippi. This study analyzes impoliteness strategies, specifically identifying the types and functions of impoliteness strategies contained in the lyrics of rap songs from Ice Cube. The total rap songs used in this study amounted to 10 rap songs. This research uses descriptive qualitative as a research method. There are 53 lines of stanza in lyrics taken and after being identified the data related to the type and function of Jonathan Culpeper's impolite strategy theory. The results of the analysis indicate that most used impoliteness strategy appears in the lyrics of rap songs from Ice Cube is Positive Impoliteness with 24 data. In the lyrics of the song, Ice Cube uses a lot of taboo words, unfamiliar words, and improper identity changes. In addition, the function Affective Impoliteness is the most used in the lyrics with 20 data. In addition, this study also describes the representation of the African-American race described by Ice Cube through the lyrics of the rap song. What can be found is the use of terms that refer to the African-American race, the way that the police treat the African-American race, and also the representation of the injustices that the African-American race gets.

Penelitian ini membahas tentang Ungkapan Metafora di Dalam Pidato Peresmian Joe Biden pada tahun 2021, yang berfokus pada pemilihan kata yang digunakan dalam pidatonya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini aalah (1) mengklasifikasikan tipe-tipe dari metafora, dan (2) menjelaskan tentang karakteristik emosi yang terdapat di dalam pidato Joe Biden. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan dari hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa (1) terdapat empat jenis tipe-tipe metafora dari pidato Joe Biden, sesuai dengan teori Leech, dan (2) terdapat tujuh karakteristik emosi dari pidato Joe Biden berdasarkan teori Kovecses. Jenis tipe metafora dengan jumlah data yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah konkritif metafora, karena di dalam pidato Joe Biden cenderung menggunakan perpindahan kalimat yang konkret ke abstrak atau sebaliknya. Sedangkan, karakteristik emosi yang paling dominan ditemukan adalah rasa bangga. Karena, Joe Biden cenderung mengacu kepada kalimat yang membanggakan atau mengapresiasi suatu tindakan dari rakyat Amerika. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan dari fokus permasalahan yang ada adalah, metafora merupakan suatu penggunaan kata yang bukan dengan arti sebenarnya. Oleh sebab itu, suatu pidato tidak dapat dipisahkan dari subjek pesan itu sendiri tanpa mempertimbangkan konteks dan situasinya.

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sosialisasi tentang Debat Bahasa Inggris yang sering kali dianggap sulit tidak hanya oleh para siswa tetapi juga bagi para guru. Hal ini berangkat dari permasalahan rendahnya daya saing atau rasa berkompetisi siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas tersebut dalam kompetisi Debat Bahasa Inggris yang setiap tahunnya dilaksanakan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan. Selain itu, keterbatasan dalam penggunaan Bahasa Inggris juga menjadi masalah yang sering kali dihadapi oleh para siswa dan para guru. Tidak hanya itu, masalah lain yang juga memicu kurangnya ketertarikan siswa akan kompetisi Debat Bahasa Inggris ialah sedikitnya jumlah tenaga pengajar debat yang berkompeten khusus di Bidang tersebut. Sejatinya, debat merupakan kegiatan yang memberikan kesempatan kepada para siswa untuk dapat mengkomunikasikan ide ataupun gagasan terkait suatu permasalahan atau isu tertentu. Debat juga membuka peluang bagi para siswa untuk menggunakan kemampuan berpikir kritis yang juga akan sangat bermanfaat bagi masa depan mereka. Selain itu, dengan memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis yang ditunjang dengan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, para siswa nantinya dapat bersaing secara lokal dan atau Nasional melainkan secara Internasional. Adapun mitra dalam program pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah dua sekolah yang berada di kabupaten Bangka Tengah yakni SMAN 1 Koba, dan MAN Insan Cendekia. Program yang akan dilaksanakan meliputi sosialisasi pelatihan debat Bahasa Inggris dan sekaligus memberikan lokakarya bagi para siswa dan guru yang ditunjang dengan monitoring dan evaluasi yang dijalankan. Integrasi antara Program pengabdian tersebut nantinya akan meningkatkan kapasitas serta keterampilan secara mandiri Khalayak sasaran dalam mempraktikkan apa yang sudah didapatkan pada saat program berlangsung.

Penyelenggaraan pendidikan perlu mendapat dukungan dan partisipasi dari berbagai elemen seperti masyarakat, pihak sekolah, sarana prasarana, dan anggaran. Khususnya pada unsur anggaran dan biaya pendidikan sangat dibutuhkan dalam penyelenggaraan sistem pendidikan oleh aparatur di lingkup pendidikan. Pelaksanaan Anggaran menjadi bagian dari proses Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara (APBN). Salah satunya adanya program Bosda. Pemerintah Kota Probolinggo menerapkan pengembangan Program Bantuan Operasional Sekolah Daerah (BOSDA) SDN/SDLBN. Salah satunya yang menjalankan adalah SDN Sukoharjo 3. Hal ini menarik untuk di teliti terkait penunjukan Kuasa Pengguna Anggaran pada Proses Penyerapan Anggaran Bantuan Operasional Sekolah Daerah (BOSDA) di SDN Sukoharjo 3 Probolinggo. Peneliti ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Penghimpunan data didapatkan dari observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil riset menunjukkan ada penerapan dua teori, yaitu teori pertama terkait implementasi Kebijakan Penunjukan Kuasa Pengguna Anggaran (KPA) pada Proses Penyerapan Anggaran Bantuan Operasional Sekolah Daerah (BOSDA) di SDN Sukoharjo 3 Probolinggo berdasarkan Teori Implementasi Kebijakan Publik, meliputi model manajemen sistem-sistem; model proses birokrasi; model perkembangan organisasi; dan model konflik dan bargaining. Teori kedua adalah Fungsi Anggaran pada Proses Penyerapan Anggaran Bantuan Operasional Sekolah Daerah (BOSDA) di SDN Sukoharjo 3 Probolinggo, meliputi planning (perencanaan); organizing (pengorganisasian); actuating (menggerakan); dan controlling (pengendalian).

Service is now an important element in running a business. Good service will determine the level of satisfaction that customers give to the company. In this effort, DR. Network, a small and medium company engaged in providing internet services, seeks to determine customer satisfaction with the services provided through a survey. This research involved employees of DR. Network which is also a member of the Dapur Remaja Community which operates in the environmental sector. Training was provided because the employees involved did not understand the importance of research in supporting company performance. In addition, the employee has never conducted research. The training method provided is with knowledge of quantitative research and its procedures for two days online. The employee is then involved as an enumerator to collect customer data. The results of the training show that, by knowing and understanding the importance of research and the role of enumerators, the research process carried out runs well in accordance with the targets set by the main researcher and DR management. Network. The survey results also show that the services provided by DR. The network in certain dimensions still needs to be improved in the future.

Abstrak Alih kode adalah suatu fenomena yang mana seorang dengan kemampuan berbahasa lebih dari satu atau dikenal dengan multilingual mengalih bahasa dalam satu ujaran. Penelitian ini mengkaji alih kode bahasa dalam video YouTube oleh Gita Savitri, dengan tujuan mengidentifikasi tipe-tipe dan alasan alih kode yang digunakan. Berdasarkan teori Poplack (1980) mengenai tipe alih kode—intra-kalimat, antar-kalimat, dan tag—serta teori Holmes (2013) tentang alasan alih kode, penelitian ini menganalisis dua puluh data. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa alih kode intra-kalimat paling dominan dengan enam belas data, diikuti oleh alih kode antar-kalimat (empat data) dan tag (dua data). Alasan utama alih kode adalah aspek fungsi (tiga belas data), diikuti topik (tujuh data) dan fitur partisipan (dua data). Kata Kunci: Alih Kode, YouTube, Gita Savitri
