Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore and understand pastoral care can be more effective in helping the elderly in orphanages by implementing a holistic approach in accordance with the development of the times, as well as providing an understanding of how to overcome the limitations of traditional methods in pastoral care for the elderly in the modern era. The research method used is a qualitative approach, namely a literature study of e-books, journals, and books, related to the topic of discussion, and using an interview method involving the elderly, administrators, to gain deeper insight into the spiritual needs of the elderly. The results of the study indicate that pastoral care contributes positively to the spirituality of the elderly, increasing a sense of connectedness to the community and improving mental health, while the use of technology such as social media has proven effective in expanding the reach of services. The conclusion of this study is that pastoral care for the elderly in orphanages in the modern era is faced with significant challenges that require a more holistic and innovative approach. Traditional methods are considered inadequate to meet the complex emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the elderly, such as feelings of loneliness, isolation, and physical limitations. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of utilizing technology, such as video calls and digital platforms, to create deeper and more personal interactions.

Abstract

This paper examines the theological role of the Holy Spirit as Spiritus Eschaton—the Spirit who guarantees, seals, and fulfills God’s plan of salvation—in response to renewed eschatological debates sparked by the viral “rapture” rumor of September 2025. Using theological hermeneutics and historical analysis of biblical Greek and Hebrew texts, as well as early church traditions, the study explores the concept of arrabōn tou pneumatos (“the guarantee of the Spirit”) in Ephesians 1:13–14 and 2 Corinthians 1:22. It finds that the Holy Spirit serves as tangible proof of believers living between the age of grace and the age of fulfillment. The paper concludes that the church should not be driven by fear of apocalyptic events but should instead focus on faith and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit in facing the end times with hope.

Abstract

AbstractThe spiritual awakening on Azusa Street in 1906 was a continuation of previous Christian movements and became the starting point for the birth of the modern Pentecostal movement. This research aims to analyze the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, particularly the gift of tongues, and its influence on the development of Pentecostal church theology. The method used is a qualitative study with a historical and theological approach. The results of the study show that glossolalia is seen as the main evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but it causes differences in views among various Christian traditions. This study emphasizes the importance of a contextual and inclusive understanding in assessing the meaning of the gift of the Holy Spirit for the church today. Keywords: Azusa Street, Holy Spirit, Tongues, Pentecostal Thelogy, Glossolalia  AbstrakKebangkitan rohani di Azusa Street tahun 1906 merupakan kelanjutan dari gerakan kekristenan sebelumnya dan menjadi titik awal lahirnya gerakan Pentakosta modern.

Abstract

Views about marriage are changing. Factors such as culture, environment, and family also influence. Several studies show the number of people who choose not to marry has increased due to economic reasons, the trauma of divorce, or lifestyle choices. This paper aims to find a biblical perspective on a person's choice to marry or not to marry. The research used in this paper, which is a qualitative method of literature study, finds that a person's choice to marry or not to marry must be focused and based on God's will, not because of personal considerations. This paper is expected to help the church to provide guidance and biblical teaching for the congregation so that they can make decisions according to God's will.  AbstrakPandangan tentang pernikahan mengalami perubahan. Abstract

The contemporary ecological crisis, characterized by the massive exploitation of nature, raises fundamental theological questions regarding the relationship between humanity, God, and creation. This article aims to examine human exploitation of nature through the perspectives of Christian ethics and eschatology, positioning the ecological crisis as an ethical and eschatological issue of faith. Utilizing a qualitative-descriptive method with a critical-theological approach, this study conducts a literature review of Biblical texts, theological treatises, and Indonesian contextual theology. The findings indicate that the exploitation of nature reflects a human failure to fulfill God’s mandate of stewardship over creation and reveals a crisis in Christian ethics that is both personal and structural. Christian ethics asserts that obedience to God is manifested not only through vertical relationships but also through concrete responsibility toward communal life, including the natural world. Furthermore, Christian eschatology is understood not as a narrative of apocalyptic fear, but as a transformative and ethical hope for the restoration of creation. Eschatological hope calls believers and the church to actively engage in environmental preservation and restoration as part of their witness of faith in a wounded world. This article concludes that Christian ethics and eschatology are inseparable in responding to the ecological crisis. The exploitation of nature is not a sign of destruction to be passively accepted; rather, it serves as a prophetic call for the church to live faithfully and responsibly, participating in God’s redemptive work over all creation.

Abstract

The fragmentation of the Corinthian congregation recorded in 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 presents a classic leadership challenge that persists in various forms within contemporary churches. While previous studies have examined this text through rhetorical, literary, and biblical-exegetical lenses, the integration of modern theological frameworks remains underexplored. This study aims to integrate a biblical exegesis of 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 with Miroslav Volf‘s theology of forgiveness (Exclusion and Embrace) to reinterpret Paul’s leadership principles. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study proceeds in three stages: syntactical-semantic exegesis of the Greek text, systematic description of Volf‘s concepts of exclusion, embrace, and healing of memory, and an integrative interpretation. The results identify three leadership principles in Paul’s response: christocentricity, relationality, and anti-celebrity cultism. These principles are mapped onto Volf‘s framework, revealing that Paul’s rejection of factionalism functions as an early praxis of “embrace“ that refuses exclusion of the other. The discussion highlights that Volf’s trinitarian model of perichoresis provides a theological grounding for Paul‘s call for unity, while Paul’s concrete leadership strategies offer a biblical foundation for Volf‘s abstract phenomenology. The implications for contemporary church leadership include a three‑dimensional model: theocentric focus, relational‑trinitarian unity, and forgiveness‑based conflict resolution.

Abstract

Having a different world in virtual reality is nothing new. However, the rapid development of such a world, often known as the metaverse, has caught many peoples’ attention, including believers. Even in its earliest stage of development, the metaverse has already attracted many interested stakeholders and investors as it promises to open up many possibilities and offers many other opportunities. Of course, it does not come without any negative aspects. Yet, like any previous technological advancements, one should assess its weight to determine the appropriate response. This paper addresses whether the metaverse should be seen as a threat or an opportunity, especially by the church. The authors hope that this writing will help the church realize this coming world in the near future and prepare as soon as possible to anticipate this revolutionary disruption. Hopefully, The church can provide spiritual care for the “real” people behind and within this virtual reality. AbstrakKonsep tentang adanya dunia virtual bukanlah suatu hal baru.

Abstract

Today some young adults decide not to marry. Various reasons were put forward, including fear of being committed to their partner ‒how to interact with their partner's family – not to mention the matter of heredity. These things make young adults experience gamophobia and no longer care about married life. Gamophobia, if not overcome, will result in both physical and psychological disturbances to the young adults themselves. It can even impact the people around him, especially those closest to him. This study used a qualitative method by observing the phenomena experienced by young adults, then the researchers conducted interviews with informants who participated gamophobia. A study analysis was carried out through the literature and then the results were explained descriptively. It was found that a lack of understanding of marriage made young adults avoid it. Pastoral care in the youth community and religious counseling services play an essential role in helping young adults with gamophobia experience a full recovery. It is hoped that through these services, young adults will overcome fear and be ready to enter the marriage ladder. In the end, the church will thrive; and become a witness to the world through the life of its congregation.
