Abstract

This research is motivated by the observation of a phenomenon occurring in Sindangkasih Village, wherein irrigation systems encounter challenges with water availability during the cultivation of paddy rice plants. The objective of this study is to ascertain the perceptions of farmers with regard to the irrigation system and the role of the Water User Farmers Association (P3A) in the irrigation system. The study population consisted of all P3A members in Sindangkasih Village, numbering 126 individuals. The research sample was determined using the Slovin formula with a degree of error/margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample size of 33 respondents. The samples were selected through the use of simple random techniques. The data were collected through observation and interviews, with questionnaires used as instruments. The variables under investigation in this study are farmers' perceptions of irrigation systems and the institutional role of the Water User Farmers Association (P3A). This study employed a quantitative methodology. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the class interval formula. The findings indicate that the perception of wet-rice farmers in Sindangkasih Village regarding the irrigation system remains inadequate. Despite the availability of water for the irrigation of rice fields on two occasions per year, damage to one component of the irrigation network will still result in the disruption of the distribution of irrigation water. One consequence of damage to irrigation channels is the uneven distribution of water. The role of the Water User Farmers Association (P3A) has been effectively fulfilled. The role of P3A in Sindangkasih Village is indispensable to members and other farming communities for the management and maintenance of the irrigation system network.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the underlying factors that precipitate the transition from wet-rice farming to lime farming, as well as to examine the impact of such farming conversions among farmers in Tridana Mulya Village. The study population was comprised of two groups: a group of 31 lime farmers and a group of seven rice farmers. The sampling technique employed was the census method, which entailed the inclusion of the entire population, resulting in a research sample of 38 individuals (31 lime farmers and 7 rice paddy farmers). Data were collected through the use of interview techniques, observation, and documentation of media sources in the form of questionnaires. The variables under investigation are the factors that influence the transfer of farming and the impact of such transfer. The data were analyzed using a descriptive method and an income formula. The results demonstrated that the factors that precipitated the transition from paddy rice farming to lime farming were attributable to a confluence of production, economic, and cultivation-related considerations. The production yield factor of lime farming has demonstrated an increase in production compared to paddy rice farming in Tridana Mulya Village. In terms of economic factors, lime farming has been shown to yield higher profits for farmers than paddy rice farming. Additionally, the cultivation factors associated with lime farming are considerably more straightforward, as the land only requires processing once, due to the fact that lime is a long-term crop, in contrast to paddy rice farming, which is dependent on seasonal conditions. The impact of switching farms includes both economic and environmental consequences. From an economic standpoint, farmers' income may change after switching from paddy rice farming to lime crops. This is because lime crops may yield higher profits than paddy rice, depending on various factors. From an environmental standpoint, the lack of use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides in lime farming may reduce the impact on the environment. This is in contrast to the opposite condition observed in paddy rice farming.

Abstract

The issues encountered in maize farming activities in Komba-Komba Village can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the knowledge and expertise of farmers in this area remain limited. Secondly, the role of farmer groups is not yet fully realised. Thirdly, the utilisation of production resources, including seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, is not optimised. The objective of this study was to ascertain the utilisation of production facilities and the function of farmer groups in maize farming activities in Komba-Komba Village, Kabangka Subdistrict, Muna Regency. The research informants were selected purposefully, with specific criteria in mind. Consequently, the research informants totaled 13 individuals, comprising farmer group administrators, specifically two farmer group leaders, two secretaries, two treasurers, six farmer group members, and the village head. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis using interview guides. This study focuses on the utilization of production facilities and the role of farmer groups in maize farming. The research employs a qualitative descriptive analysis approach to data analysis, comprising three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that farmer groups in Komba-Komba Village serve as a conduit for collaboration in maize farming activities. This is evidenced by the presence of groups that engage in joint efforts between the farmer group leaders and members during the farming process. Furthermore, the role of farmer groups has not been as effective as the function of farmer groups. In terms of production facilities, farmers in Komba-Komba Village provide these for maize farming activities, including seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, using their own capital.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an agricultural country, has great potential in developing cassava commodities, which are highly needed by industry and export. However, this sector currently faces capital and technological constraints, resulting in suboptimal productivity. Partnerships between farmers and companies have the potential to be a solution to this situation. The objective of this study is to ascertain the nature of partnership in cassava farming activities in Wunduwatu Village, Andoolo District, South Konawe Regency. Informants for this study were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews based on interview guidelines, and documentation. The focus of this study is the form of partnership in cassava farming. The data analysis method used is qualitative analysis, which consists of three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the form of partnership carried out by farmers in cassava farming in Wunduwatu Village is divided into two, namely core-plasma partnership and general trade partnership. Core-plasma partnerships are more structured, with technical and administrative arrangements through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), including land legality requirements and crop marketing procedures. Meanwhile, general trading partnerships are flexible and trust-based, without formal ties, and give farmers complete freedom in managing their farms.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the business capital and capabilities of farmers in cultivating lettuce at Nuri Horti Hydroponics and Faperta Hydroponics in Kendari City. The informants in this study consisted of hydroponic business owners and farmers working at hydroponic business locations. The selection of informants was conducted using purposive sampling techniques, with the objective of identifying individuals who met specific criteria. This process resulted in a total of four research informants. The data presented herein was collected through a meticulous combination of observational studies, detailed documentation, and in-depth interviews conducted within a structured interview framework. The present study concentrated on the following subjects: business capital, farmers' capabilities, and hydroponic lettuce cultivation. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The results of the study indicate that the success of hydroponic lettuce cultivation at the two locations, namely Nuri Horti Hydroponics and Faperta Hydroponics, is supported by business capital sourced from personal savings and adequate technical and managerial skills of the farmers. Despite initial capital constraints, both business operators were able to manage the purchase of equipment and materials gradually and efficiently. From a technical perspective, farmers possess good knowledge and skills related to hydroponic systems, cultivation stages, and plant nutritional requirements, acquired through experience and self-directed training. Managerially, although they have not adopted modern management concepts, farmers have implemented simple yet effective planning, resource allocation, and business oversight. There are differences in cultivation approaches between the two locations: Nuri Horti Hydroponics directly transfers seedlings to the installation after germination, while Faperta Hydroponics uses a step-by-step process. These differences reflect the adaptation of methods based on the conditions and experiences of each entrepreneur. Hydroponic cultivation practices can succeed and develop even when conducted independently and with limited capital, provided that the operators possess sufficient technical skills and basic managerial capabilities. The adjustments made to cultivation methods based on individual experiences demonstrate the flexibility of the hydroponic system, which continues to prioritize principles of efficiency and sustainability.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the form and process of local wisdom in paddy rice farming activities in Jati Bali Village, Ranomeeto Barat Sub-district, South Konawe Regency. The research design is qualitative, and the determination of informants was done by Snowball sampling technique. The study's key informants numbered 16 individuals, comprising four indigenous people, two village officials, one P3A chairperson, and nine rice farmers. Data collection methods included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation using an interview guide. The research focuses on the form of local wisdom of the community and the process of implementing local wisdom in paddy rice farming activities. Data were analyzed using a qualitative analysis method by referring to the Miles & Hubermen model, through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study indicated that the form of textual local wisdom observed among wet-rice farmers in Jati Bali Village, Ranomeeto Barat Sub-district, pertains to the procedure (determination of good days) that is carried out by the village customary head and hamlet custom. This determination precedes land cultivation and planting, with maintenance and harvesting not being conducted on designated good days. The intangible form of local wisdom manifests in the form of mantra prayers offered by traditional leaders and farmers. These prayers are believed to facilitate a smooth and disease-free farming process. The implementation of local wisdom by wet-rice farmers in Jati Bali Village is evident in the ngendag sawah ritual, ngurit, ngwiwit, nangkluk merana, and masabo rituals.
