The purpose of the study was to determine and describe the effectiveness of character education-based animation media in improving the ability to compose narratives for fifth graders at SD Negeri 3 Waringinsari Barat for the 2020/2021 academic year. The underlying problem is that animation media has never been used in learning to compose narratives. The research method uses classroom action research. The subjects of this study were 28th-grade students of SD Negeri 3 Waringinsari Barat, Sukoharjo District, Pringsewu Regency. The data were collected using observations, questionnaires, interviews, and narrative writing tests. The research procedure uses four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, and is carried out in 2 research cycles. Data analysis was carried out by quantitative descriptive analysis using the percentage formula. The results of the study indicate that the use of animation media can increase the effectiveness of the learning process on the ability to compose narratives for fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 3 Waringinsari Barat. The improvement can be seen in the change from pre-action, cycle I to cycle II. The results of the student's ability to compose narratives in the first cycle obtained an average score of 62 which increased to 72 in the first cycle and increased to 82 in the second cycle.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge of affirmation and vocabulary mastery with the skills of writing expository texts in class VIII students of SMPN 2 Bandar Mataram To achieve the research objectives above, the data was collected after all the events in question took place. The techniques used in collecting research data are questionnaires, tests, and observations. Research data analysis techniques include analysis requirements test, normality test, and research hypothesis testing techniques. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that, (1) there is a negative relationship between knowledge of assertiveness and skills in writing expository texts, indicated by a regression coefficient of 0.914. (2) there is a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and expository text writing skills as indicated by the regression coefficient of 0.860. (3) there is a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and the skill of writing exposition texts as indicated by the regression coefficient of 0.525 but has no effect on the variable knowledge of figurative language assertion. Based on the table, it can also be seen that the regression coefficient of the mastery of affirmation variable (X1) is -0.042, which means that if the mastery of affirmation increases 1 value, the result of writing students' exposition text (Y) will decrease by 0.042. The coefficient is negative, meaning that there is a negative relationship between the students' mastery of affirmation knowledge and the skills of writing expository texts.

The present study aims to explore Indonesian EFL teachers’ perception regarding the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) usage for developing cultural awareness of students as well as improving their English literacy and communication. Even though English subject is not considered as compulsory to be taught in elementary school, there is evidence that English is still being taught either as the local content subject or as the language-medium of instruction. This study employs survey research by administering a questionnaire for elementary school English teachers in Indonesia who have been ever implementing online learning. The result shows that most teachers respond positively on the implementation of ICT in English instructional practice in elementary school. Regarding the cultural content, the participants agree that ICT can be helpful for them to provide interactive digital teaching material, including cultural material for the students. The existence of ICT is helpful for both students and teachers to provide real and authentic teaching materials. Therefore, the use of ICT needs to be promoted to provide cultural awareness in ELT practice to equip young learners to do intercultural communication in the global world
