Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the diversity of butterfly (sub ordo Rhoplalocera) in Hapanasanpark, Riau Province. The study was conducted from January to February 2014. Imagos were collected inthe morning and afternoon. They were captured directly by using butterfly net. The result of this studyshowed that there were 48 Rhoplalocera butterfly species of 5 families, that consisted of Hesperidae (5species), Papilionidae (6 species), Pieridae (9 species), Nymphalidae (26 species), and Lycaenidae (2species). The most abundant species belongs to Nymphalidae family. In this study we found Troideshelena. This species is protected by. laws and recorded in Appendix II CITES.Key words : Butterflies, Rhopalocera, Hapanasan

Abstract

AbstrakKawasan yang berbeda memiliki jenis ketersediaan makanan dan kondisi lingkungan yang berbeda, sehingga diduga perbedaan kawasan  akan mempengaruhi karakter morfometrik dari B. asper. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengkaji variasi karakter morfometrik pada B. asper yang berada di dua lokasi berbeda yaitu Universitas Riau (UR) dan Desa Bencah Kelubi (BK) Kampar. Menggunakan metode survey dan koleksi langsung di lapangan. Hasil uji t karakter morfometrik di kedua kawasan berbeda nyata pada JMT, JMH, JMTi, DM dan PJ1KB. Hasil nisbah pada kedua lokasi memiliki status allometrik positif dan negatif. Korelasi karakter B. asper betina di UR memiliki korelasi kuat (LK), sedang (PK, JMT, PM, JMHi, PKB, PT), dan lemah (Pab, PJ1KD, PF, PTJ4). Korelasi karakter B. asper betina di BK memiliki korelasi sangat kuat (PT), kuat (LK, JMHi, PTJ4), sedang (PK, JMT, PM, PF, Pab, PJ1KD) dan lemah (PKB). Korelasi pada B. asper jantan UR memiliki korelasi sangat kuat (PKB), kuat (PF, PTJ4), sedang (PM, JMM, JHT, JMHi, Pab, PT), dan lemah (LK, PJ3KD). Sedangkan di BK memiliki korelasi kuat (LK, PM, JMM, JMHi, Pab, PTJ4), dan sedang (JHT, PJ3KD, PKB, PF, PT). Hasil nisbah kelamin pada UR dan BK yaitu 1,37:1.AbstractRegions have different types of food and environmental conditions, so it is expected that the difference will affect the morphometric characters of a species, including Bufo asper. The aim of this study was to assess the variation in morphometric characteristics of B. asper in two different locations, Universitas Riau (UR) and Bencah Kelubi (BK) village. The research was conducted by methods of survey and direct field collection. The result from the t test on the morphometric characteristics showed that the two regions were significantly different among the JMT, JMH, JMTi, DM and PJ1KB. Ratio of the locations had both positive and negative allometric status. The female characteristics in BK had correlation level of very strong (PT), strong (LK, JMHI, PTJ4), moderate (PK, JMT, PM, PF, Pab, PJ1KD) and weak (PKB). The male in UR had correlation level of very strong (PKB), strong (PF, PTJ4), medium (PM, JMM, JHT, JMHI, Pab, PT), and weak (LK, PJ3KD), while in BK had correlation level of strong (LK, PM, JMM, JMHI, Pab, PTJ4), and medium (JHT, PJ3KD, PKB, PF, PT). Result on the sex ratio in UR and BK was 1.37: 1.

Abstract

In the Siak River, Riau, the water quality in the downstream area is relatively bad due to pollutant originated from several sources such as industrial and domestic wastes. The low quality water may negatively affects the growth of fish and it is reflected in the growth pattern in the otolith of fish living in that river. To understand the growth pattern in the otolith of Pristolepis grooti (Anabantidae)living in that river, a study has been conducted. Totally 25 fishes were captured from the downstream of the Siak River. The otolith were then removed and processed following Windarti (2007) and investigated under a binocular microscope to study the growth ring pattern in the otolith. The number of dark growth ring was counted. Results shown that 2 to 5 dark growth rings, around 0.086 mm thick were present in the otolith of the fish. The presence of the dark growth rings in the otolith indicated that the growth of P. grooti in the downstream of the Siak River was hampered and this fact also suggested that the water quality in the downstream of the Siak River is not sufficient to support the life P. grooti in that area.

Abstract

Currently, analysis based on DNA is one of the techniques for solving the problems such as paternity test, determining the identity of accident victims, natural disasters victims, and authentication of foods ingredients. But not everyone knows about the stages of DNA analysis laboratory procedures. The purpose of this workshop is to provide knowledgments about DNA analysis laboratory procedures. The training was attended by 30 participants from various universities and research centers in Riau Province. Workshop materials include DNA isolation of animal, plant and bacterial, electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and visualization of DNA bands. Evaluation uses a questionnaire distributed to participants. Questionnaire analysis showed that workshop was very useful especially for beginners who want to be involved in DNA analysis activities in the laboratory.

Abstract

Bukit Tiga Puluh National park (TNBT) of Riau Province is a nature conservation area with a high diversity of fauna, one of which is the butterfly. Butterfly species diversity is influenced by the vegetation in their habitat. The TNBT utilization zone has a habitat type with varied vegetation. There is no information about the species of butterflies in the area. This study aimed to identify morphological character of butterflies and vegetation based on morphological characters. The method used was exploration. The catching area of the butterfly was the Granite waterfall and the Bukit Lancang path of TNBT utilization zone. Samples made as insectarium and herbarium. The  identification of butterfly characters consisted of the head, thorax, abdomen, legs and wings. There were a number of different types of butterflies and plants between the Granite waterfall area (22 and 28 species) and the Bukit Lancang paths (5 and 9 species). The type of butterfly was dominated by the family Nymphalidae. This is due to the amount of vegetation and environmental conditions that are more favorable in the granite waterfall area. The key determinants of butterfly species are the characters of the wing. The results of this study can contribute to maintaining the TNBT butterflies in Riau Province and also as database information of butterflies species in Indonesia.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian tentang ngengat masih sangat sedikit dilakukan di Indonesia terutama di kawasan Universitas Riau dan Desa Siabu Kampar belum ada datanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keanekaragaman fenotip ngengat berdasarkan karakter morfologi untuk mengetahui jarak genetik ngengat di kawasan Universitas Riau dan Desa Siabu. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2016 hingga Mei 2017. Lokasi pengambilan sampel terdapat di dua kawasan dengan enam lokasi yang berbeda yaitu Universitas Riau (Arboretum, Kebun FMIPA, Rusunawa) dan Desa Siabu (perumahan warga, Bukit Tentado dan hutan sekunder). Metode sampling mengunakan perangkap layar (light trap) sebagai sumber cahaya digunakan lampu mercuri merk Philips 160 watt. Bagian tubuh ngengat yang diamati adalah kepala, torak, abdomen dan sayap, jumlah karakter morfologi yang diamati adalah 24 karakter. Setiap karakter morfologi diberi skor kemudian dianalisis menggunakan program NTSYS ps versi 2.02i. Hasil yang didapat yaitu 61 spesies dengan 414 individu dari 10 famili ngengat.  Keanekaragaman fenetik ngengat di Universitas Riau dan Desa Siabu berturut turut adalah 87% dan 78%. Ngengat dari kedua kawasan menunjukkan perbedaan pada karakter ukuran, namun tidak pada karakter morfologi dan warna. Terdapat adanya kemiripan sebesar 66% antara ngengat yang dikoleksi dari Universitas Riau (kebun FMIPA, rusunawa) dengan Desa Siabu (Bukit Tentado dan hutan sekunder).Abstract Research on moths is still very few in Indonesia. Especially in the area of Riau University and Siabu Kampar Village. There is no datum about moths. The objective of this research is to analyze the genetic diversity of moths in Riau University and Siabu Vilage, Riau Province based on morphological characters. The study was conducted from December 2016 to May 2017. The moths were collected from two areas with six different locations such as Riau University (arboretum of mathematics and science faculty) and Siabu Village (village residence, Tentado Hill, and secondary forest). The sampling method that used was the light trap, with 160 watts of mercury, was used as a light source. The parts of the body observed were head, thorax, abdomen, and wings with the number of morphological characters observed by 24 characters. Morphological characters were observed and scored and then analyzed using the NTSYSp c version 2.02i software. The results showed that there were 61 species with 414 individuals from 10 families of moths. The genetic diversity of moth in the Riau University and Siabu Village was 87% and 78%. Moths on both locations indicated no difference in the shape and color, but they were different in size. Moths from FMIPA garden and rusunawa had 66% genetic similarity to one from Tentado Hill and secondary forest.

Abstract

Kumbang longhorn yang dikenal dengan nama kumbang cerambycid merupakan kumbang yang memiliki peran sangat penting dalam proses pembusukan yang berguna bagi keseimbangan ekosistem hutan. Keanekaragaman kumbang ini masih belum banyak diketahui dan dipelajari di Indonesia, terutama di Provinsi Riau. Sedangkan provinsi ini memiliki heterogenitas vegetasi yang tinggi yang merupakan habitat dan sumber makanan bagi kumbang antena panjang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginventarisasi dan mengkarakterisasi kumbang longhorn di hutan Talang Pematang Pudu Provinsi Riau. Metode yang digunakan adalah menggunakan perangkap Arthrocarpus. Kumbang dikumpulkan pada pukul 15.00 wib. Kemudian dilakukan pengawetan dan identifikasi karakter morfologi berdasarkan ciri kepala, dada dan perut. Hasil penelitian didapatkan sebanyak 12 spesies kumbang longhorn, dengan genera yang terdiri dari Sybra, Pterolophia, dan Epepeotes dari Subfamili Lamiinae. Jumlah individu yang diperoleh sebanyak 110 kumbang. Ciri-ciri kumbang longhorn yang dapat membedakan jenis kumbang terdapat pada ciri-ciri antena, elytra, skutelum dan pronotum.

Abstract

Kupu-kupu Rhopalocera merupakan organisme yang memiliki morfologi yang indah dan berperan penting di alam. Namun jenis kupu-kupu tersebut masih belum banyak diketahui khususnya di Provinsi Riau. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis kupu-kupu di berbagai daerah di Provinsi Riau. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksplorasi dengan menangkap kupu-kupu secara langsung menggunakan jaring serangga. Sampel tersebut kemudian diawetkan dalam bentuk insektarium. Kemudian diidentifikasi berdasarkan karakter kepala, dada, sayap dan perut. Hasil yang diperoleh sebanyak 47 jenis kupu-kupu dan 363 individu kupu-kupu. Ada sebanyak 18 spesies kupu-kupu yang sama dari kedua wilayah tersebut. Jenis dan individu kupu-kupu dari kedua wilayah tersebut didominasi oleh famili Nymphalidae

Abstract

Keberadaan lalat buah pada tanaman cabai di Kecamatan Canduang, Kabupaten Agam, Provinsi Sumatera Barat menyebabkan kerugian sekitar 20-40% saat panen. Beberapa upaya telah dilakukan tetapi tidak cukup efektif untuk mengendalikan lalat buah. Pengendalian yang tepat dimulai dengan mengetahui jenis hama yang tepat untuk dikendalikan terlebih dahulu. Sehingga perlu dilakukan inventarisasi untuk mengetahui jenis lalat buah apa saja yang ada di perkebunan. Metode yang digunakan adalah perangkap atraktan petrogenol. Sampel lalat yang diperoleh kemudian diawetkan dan diidentifikasi karakter morfologinya. Ada sebanyak 200 individu dan dua jenis lalat buah Bactrocera. Lalat buah Bactrocera dorsalis dan B. umbrosa memiliki perbedaan jumlah dan karakter morfologi pada wajah, thorax dorsal, scutum dan scutellum, lateral postsutural vitae, sayap, tibia, pola T dan ceromata.
