Abstract

Background: Anemia is often a health problem experienced by many students, mainly due to an unbalanced diet and a lack of essential nutrients, such as iron, which the body needs. Nursing students, as future health workers, should be highly aware of the importance of a nutritious diet to support their health and academic performance. This study is useful for determining the relationship between diet and the incidence of anemia in fourth-semester nursing students at Sultan Agung Islamic University in Semarang. Methods: This study adopted a correlational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 173 fourth-semester students from the Faculty of Nursing, with a sample of 121 respondents selected purposively. Data were collected using a dietary questionnaire and hemoglobin level tests, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of students had poor dietary patterns (41.3%), but 81 respondents (66.9%) still experienced anemia. The output of the Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between dietary patterns and the incidence of anemia (p-value = 0.001). In conclusion, there is an important relationship between dietary patterns and the incidence of anemia among fourth-semester nursing students. Students who have poor dietary patterns tend to have a higher risk of anemia. Efforts are needed to raise nutritional awareness through education and the promotion of balanced dietary habits on campus.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional disorder characterized by a child’s height being below the age-standard growth curve. One contributing factor is the mother’s knowledge regarding proper complementary feeding (MP-ASI). This study aims to determine the correlation between maternal knowledge of complementary feeding and stunting among children under five at Posyandu in the Bangetayu Health Center working area, Semarang. This research employed an analytical observational design with a case-control approach. A total of 60 respondents were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of 30 stunted and 30 non-stunted children. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The findings indicated that most mothers possessed good knowledge of complementary feeding (80%). Stunting prevalence among respondents was 41.7%. The Chi-Square test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant relationship between maternal knowledge of complementary feeding and stunting. Mothers with poor knowledge were more likely to have stunted children compared to those with adequate understanding. These results highlight the crucial role of improving maternal nutrition knowledge to prevent stunting and support optimal child growth and development.

Abstract

Providing complementary foods (MP-ASI) is an important stage in the growth and development of infants after 6 months of age. However, many mothers still provide MP-ASI too early, which can have a negative impact on the baby's health. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the provision of MP-ASI to infants aged 6–12 months in Wringinjajar Village, Demak Regency. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The total sampling technique used was 80 respondents. Data collection used a questionnaire, which was then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of this study showed that 70 (87,5%)  respondents received good family support when providing complementary feeding, and 10 (12,5%). respondents received less family support when providing complementary feeding. The chi-square test results obtained a ρ value of 0.001. There is a significant relationship between family support and the provision of complementary feeding to babies aged 6-12 months.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of peer support in smoking cessation motivation among adolescents at MTs Al Hamidiyyah WringinJajar. A quantitative empirical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in August 2025. The population consisted of all ninth-grade students who smoked, totaling 55 respondents, and total sampling was applied. Peer support was measured using a 20-item questionnaire, while motivation to quit smoking was assessed using the Richmond Test. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, with Somers’ d test applied at a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings showed that most respondents had moderate peer support and moderate motivation to quit smoking. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between peer support and smoking cessation motivation, indicating that higher levels of peer support were associated with stronger motivation to quit smoking. These results highlight the importance of social influences in shaping adolescents’ health-related motivation. Strengthening positive peer support within the school environment may serve as an effective strategy to enhance smoking cessation motivation among adolescents and support healthier behavioral change.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major public health concern among adolescent girls and may adversely affect physical growth, learning concentration, and future reproductive health. In Indonesia, one of the primary preventive strategies is the school-based iron tablet supplementation program, whose effectiveness is closely related to adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward anemia prevention. This study examined the relationship between knowledge and attitudes and anemia prevention efforts among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 20 Semarang. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 130 adolescent girls selected through total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring knowledge, attitudes, and anemia prevention efforts and were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The findings demonstrated a significant relationship between knowledge and anemia prevention efforts (p = 0.009) as well as between attitudes and anemia prevention efforts (p = 0.001). Most respondents exhibited good knowledge levels (75.4%) and moderate attitudes (56.9%), while anemia prevention efforts were predominantly categorized as moderate (62.3%). These results indicate that adequate knowledge and positive attitudes contribute substantially to the adoption of anemia prevention behaviors, emphasizing the importance of continuous health education, school-based interventions, and supportive environments to enhance preventive practices among adolescent girls.
