Abstract

Natural energy is something that can be utilized as an alternative energy besides fossil fuel energy. Considering that the need for fossil fuel energy is decreasing, the purpose of this research is to propose a utilization of natural energy in the form of wind. The implication of the use of this alternative energy in the hybrid power function is that the integration of vertical axis wind turbines and Flettner rotors is chosen as the main driving energy of the model ship that fully utilizes wind energy. The performance evaluation stages in this experiment include design and simulation for the turbine-Flettner rotor, and trials on a model ship using a monohull type hull. The objective of this research is to obtain the optimum performance of the combined vertical-axis wind turbine-Fletner rotor in supporting hybrid propulsion power on a model ship. The power required by Flettner is 0.695 Watt and the turbine rotate at a minimum angular velocity of 40 rpm. The highest contribution of the Flettner rotor at ship service speed 1 knot and ship total resistance of 0.01 kN reached 26,20%.

Abstract

Fire accident onboard RoRo (Roll on/Roll off) passenger ferry notoriously indicates intense symptoms of human, technical and organisational issues. In some cases, the more complex the fire's origin, the more challenging the crew would handle handling, suppressing, and putting out the fire. The crew response plays a significant role in the success of firefighting onboard. The research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of fire drill performance by developing an evaluation model based on the cognitive model and analytical network process. The model was developed to overview crew performance and consistency in conducting fire drills on board the roro passenger ship. The questionnaire is developed to obtain crew perspective and awareness of fire risks. The analytical network process (ANP) model is utilised to identify crew preference during fire drills. The result of decision-based research identified significant issues that occurred in every step of cognition. Competency and proficiency of the crew, along with continuous training and familiarisation, were the main issues in improving effectiveness in firefighting. The results of the analysis were resourceful evidence to enhance audit and supervision for the emergency preparedness system. In addition, it is also a reference for developing further training models to improve crew overall performance in firefighting.

Abstract

Dependence on materials for the small ship industry can cause other problems. The development of cheap, environmentally friendly, and sustainable small ship manufacturing raw materials is a challenge that must be faced, this gave rise to the idea of developing asphalt-matrixed bamboo (Gigantochloa apus) composite materials with added latex (Hevea brasiliensis) as small ship hull skin material. The asphalt-latex composite material reinforced with apus bamboo fibers was tested using a three-point bending test and a Charpy-type impact test concerning ASTM. The test results showed that the asphalt-latex composite material reinforced with bamboo fibers had an impact toughness of 57.2 kJ/m² and a flexural strength of 6.4 MPa.

Abstract

Ship Movement is an important factor in shipbuilding. In determining the ship's maneuverability, there are many aspects that must be considered in the design, namely resistance and angle of attack of the waves. In determining the angle of attack of the waves, the test uses the trigonometry principle to determine the angle of attack of the waves. Where the results of the 3 maneuvers of the Heave, Roll and Pitch ships at speeds of 0 knots, 0.389 knots, 0.778 knots, 1.166 knots, 1943 knots, it is known that the displacement model ship can be used in an open area with a set scale.
