Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out students’ perception about E-learning in English Subject to the Tenth Grade Students’ Madrasah Aliyah Darun Najah Bangun Jaya and to find out strengths and weaknesses in using E-learning faced by the Tenth Grade Students’ Madrasah Aliyah Darun Najah Bangun Jaya. This study used a mix method by using questionnaires and open-ended questionnaires. The researchers used total sampling and the sample was 69 students. The data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed through Google Form and WhatsApp application. For analyzing the data, the researchers used a percentage analysis formula. Based on the result of the questionnaire, 36 students or 52.2% had negative perception of E-learning in English subjects, 31 students or 44.9% had positive perception and 2 students or 2.8% had neutral perception. It could be concluded that the Tenth Grade Student of Madrasah Aliyah Darun Najah Bangun Jaya has negative perception on E-learning in English subject. The result of the open-end questionnaire found that the strength in using the WhatsApp application is that it is easier to submit the assignment. E-learning can eliminate hesitation / unconfidence to practice English, and interaction and communication between teacher and students better. The weakness in using E-learning was students are difficult to understand the material given. They faced limited internet access and the time was not flexible, so that learning activities became ineffective.

Abstract

TOEFL training for the  seventh semester students of  English education study program FKIP, Muhammadiyah University Of Palembang. Overall “Alhamdulillah” went smoothly. All participant enthusiastically participated in the training for approximately 4 hours until it was finished. In other word, TOEFL training for seventh semester student of the English education study program FKIP, University of Muhammadiyah Palembang was Proven successful by the expressions of the participant who felt happy and were able to solve all TOEFL question given, were previously they did not know that TOEFL and in the end they understand the strategies in doing the TOEFL questions quickly and precisely, effectively end efficiently. In short, there are so many benefits that can be obtained for participant during the TOEFL training. Participant can improve their basic English Skills which are needed when taking the real TOEFL test. Pelatihan TOEFL bagi mahasiswa semester VII program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris FKIP, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang secara keseluruhan  “Alhamdulilah”  berjalan lancar. Semua peserta antusias mengikuti pelatihan selama lebih kurang 4 jam sampai selesai. Dengan kata lain, pelatihan TOEFL bagi bagi mahasiswa semester VII program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris FKIP, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang sukses terbukti dengan ekspresi para peserta yang merasa bahagia dan mampu menyelesaikan semua soal-soal TOEFL yang diberikan,  dimana  sebelumnya  mereka  tidak  mengenal  apa  itu  TOEFL  dan  pada  akhirnya mereka  memahami  strategi-strategi  dalam  mengerjakan  soal-soal  TOEFL  dengan  cepat  dan tepat, effektif dan efisien. Singkatnya, begitu banyak manfaat yang bisa diperoleh bagi peserta selama mengikuti pelatihan TOEFL. Peserta dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dasar (Basic Competency) bahasa Inggris yang sangat dibutuhkan ketika mengikuti tes TOEFL yang sesungguhnya.

Abstract

Skripsi adalah salah satu mata kuliah wajib yang harus di tempuh oleh semua mahasiswa semester akhir untuk menyelesaikan studi Program Sarjana Strata Satu. Kenyataannya,  mereka masih belum memahami cara menyusun proposal skripsi yang baik dan benar, meskipun mereka sudah memiliki Buku Pedoman Penulisan Adapun metode pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah melalui ceramah dan diskusi. hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa kualifikasi kemampuan mahasiswa semester VII Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dalam menulis mini research proposal baik dengan menggunakan pendekatan quantitative maupun qualitatif adalah baik. Ini terbukti dengan meningkatnya kemampuan mereka dalam menentukan judul serta merumuskan masalah-masalah penelitian yang saing berkaitan. Mereka juga mampu untuk memparafrasekan landasan teori yang mereka gunakan dalam proposal penelitiannya dan juga mampu untuk memberikan kesimpulan (additional voice) terhadap teori yang mereka gunakan untuk menghindari plagiat. Selanjutnya, bisa dilihat dari kemampuan mereka dalam mempresentasi mini research selama berada di breakout room aplikasi Zoom dan berdasarkan observasi Dosen pemakalah, secara keseluruhan, semua peserta mampu untuk mempresentasikan mini research proposal yang sudah mereka susun sebelumnya.

Abstract

Dikarenakan proses kegiatan belajar mengajar (KBM) disekolah pada masa pandemi ini dilaksanakan secara daring sehingga minat membaca peserta didik berkurang, kenyataannya mereka lebih senang bermain dari pada membaca, malasnya berkunjung ke perpustakaan adalah salah satu faktor dari rendahnya budaya literasi. Tujuan dididirikan pojok baca adalah untuk meningkatkan minat baca peserta didik dengan menciptakan dan memanfaatkan sudut kelas untuk dijadikan pojok baca yang menarik agar bisa memicu minat peserta didik untuk lebih gemar membaca dan meningkatkan budaya literasi di sekolah tersebut. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan memberikan penyuluhan berupa: ceramah, tanya jawab (diskusi), dan praktik langsung di kelas. Tempat pelaksanaan kegiatan di SD Negeri 31 Prabumulih. Penyuluhan ini diikuti oleh seluruh peserta didik dari kelas 1 sampai kelas 6. Hasil t yang didapat dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini diantaranya adalah : 1). Peserta didik diberikan pendidikan tentang pentingnya adanya pojok baca kelas. 2). Dari hasil penyuluhan, peserta didik bisa belajar lebih nyaman ketika istirahat,, sehingga peserta didik bias memanfaatkan waktunya dengan membaca apalagi buku yang disediakan bervariasi.

Abstract

Laporan akhir pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diharapkan memberikan manfaat yang besar, tidak hanya bagi penulis pribadi, tetapi juga bagi semua orang sebagai referensi atau pedoman dalam melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang lebih baik lagi, terutama yang berhubungan dengan pelatihan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Adapun metode yang di gunakan dalam pelatihan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara bagi siswa-siswi MTs Nurul Hilal Desa Senuro Timur. Dalam hal ini, penulis memberikan media gambar dan arahan kepada siswa tentang instruksi dalam mengerjakan latihan menulis, kemudian peserta mulai mengerjakannya dan pada akhirnya mereka menceritakan apa yang telah mereka tulis kedepan teman-teman mereka dengan menggunakan teknik «look-up and say». Sebelum pelatihan dimulai para peserta sudah datang lebih awal dan memenuhi salah satu rumah warga yang dijadikan tempat pelatihan. Kecamatan Tanjung Batu Kabupaten Ogan Ilir yang ikut berpartisipasi dalam pelatihan tersebut. Pelatihan ketrampilan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris berlangsung selama lebih kurang 5 jam. Kecamatan Tanjung Batu, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir bahwa secara keseluruhan «Alhamdulillah Hirobbil A’lamin» pelaksanaan pelatihan berjalan lancar. Semua peserta antusias mengikuti pelatihan selama lebih kurang 5 jam sampai selesai dengan ekspresi riang dan gembira dan pada akhirnya mereka mampu menyelesaikan tulisannya dan menyampaikannya didepan teman-teman mereka dalam kontek speaking atau komunikasi perorangan dengan baik. Singkatnya, begitu banyak manfaat yang bisa diperoleh bagi semua peserta selama mengikuti pelatihan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang untuk bisa melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berkelanjutan terkait dengan pelatihan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris yang lebih intens dengan menggunakan media-media yang lebih attraktif lagi, sehingga tidak ada lagi siswa-siswi di SMP ataupun MTs yang tidak bisa menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris

Abstract

The media utilized in the teaching and learning process should adapt to the circumstances and settings, as well as be compatible with the abilities of the students. The media industry has a common need for creative men and women who can effectively communicate information and ideas via words and visuals. This study was aimed to found out: whether or not there were an influence of interaction among picture series, motivation and gender toward speaking achievement. Method of this research used quantitative with factorial 2x2x2 design approach. There were 60 students as sample, 30 students for experimental group and 30 students for control group. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling., the data were collected by using speaking test and questionnaires. To verify the hypotheses, the data were analyzed by using three-way ANAVA. Based on the data analysis, the result of three-way ANAVA showed that the interaction between: 1) the experiment and control classes obtained significant values = 0.001 < 0.05, the first hypothesis was acceptable, 2) the male and female genders obtained significant values = 0.367 > 0.05, the second hypothesis cannot be accepted, 3) high and low motivation obtained significant value = 0.085 > 0.05, the third hypothesis is unacceptable, 4) class and gender obtained significant value = 0.820 > 0.05, the fourth hypothesis is not acceptable, 5) class and motivation obtained Significant value = 0.669 > 0.05, then the fifth hypothesis is unacceptable, 6) Gender and motivation obtained Significant value = 0.015 < 0.05, then the sixth hypothesis is acceptable, and 7) the interaction among class, gender and motivation was obtained Significant value = 0.380 > 0.05, the seventh hypothesis was unacceptable. Thus, it could be concluded that there was no interaction between class, gender and motivation for speaking achievement scores.

Abstract

Housewives who have a lot of activities in the household produce a lot of domestic (household) waste every day, both in the form of organic and inorganic waste. The role of housewives in managing household waste, especially organic waste, will be very beneficial for the environment. Therefore, this service activity is aimed at housewives in utilizing organic waste into liquid fertilizer that has economic value to help the hobbies or hobbies of housewives to maintain plants at home so that they become fertile without incurring additional costs and provide information on how to make healthy drink made from spices in the kitchen, which is useful for maintaining body stamina during this pandemic by utilizing free time at home. The purpose of this study was to find out how to process organic waste into liquid fertilizer, how to make healthy drinks from areca nut and garlic, and how to make healthy drinks from ginger and brown sugar. From this community service activity, it can be concluded that: (1) The knowledge and understanding of the community regarding the procedures for processing household waste and spices has increased. (2) Public awareness and desire to participate in creating a healthy environment and maintaining physical fitness during this pandemic has increased. Given the magnitude of the benefits of this community service activity, it is further necessary to: (1) Conduct similar socialization and outreach to communities in other sub-districts, with the same material. (2) There is a continuity of the program after this service activity so that the community really understands and realizes the importance of processing household waste and spices, in an effort to create a healthy environment and improve health in the community.

Abstract

This research aimed to assess the preparedness of EFL teachers for implementing the IKM at senior high schools in Palembang City. The research used mixed methods. Both of the data were collected concurrently. When self-developed and validated questionnaires were distributed and filled in, to know the general overview of the EFL teachers in implementing the IKM. For data triangulation, the interview data was supported by a teaching document in the form of a lesson plan (RPP). The overall result of quantitative data analysis showed that the EFL teachers of SHSs were highly ready in terms of competencies, assessment methods, mindset/attitude, commitment, and teaching resources to implement the IKM. Meanwhile, the analysis of qualitative data indicated that EFL teachers had not yet demonstrated their readiness to implement IKM according to the process standards of IKM teaching. This less-readiness was caused by the provided training, and the workshop was only able to enhance their cognitive aspects, not the practical knowledge required to implement the IKM properly. The findings of this research shed light on policymakers and leaders about the EFL teachers' readiness toward the IKM implementation in Palembang City.
