Abstract

Tofu is a soy-based food that is popular in Indonesia. One of the supporting factors is that it has high nutritional value and low price. Tofu is produced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in all provinces in Indonesia, including in the region of Aceh. Based on the results of observations, the tofu production process still predominantly uses human labor, starting from the washing process to the cutting process. This activity is carried out every day with a high repetition rate. If this is allowed to happen for a long time, workers will be exposed to the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. This study uses the Cornell Musculoskeletal Disorders (CMDQ) questionnaire to assess the workers' work posture and determine the level of occupational hazard risk using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method. The results of the distribution of questionnaires show that the body parts that experienced pain complaints were the shoulder (right dan left), upper back, upper arm (right and left), lower back, forearm (right and left), also wrist (right and left). It happens in the filtering process. The results of the assessment of work posture with the REBA method show the score of work posture in the filtering process is 13, which means that the filtering posture of workers has a very high risk and must be improved immediately.  The present research recommended additional intervention that includes engineering and administrative control methods for reducing those workers' complaints of muscle pain.

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a significant focus on researching and developing Sign Language Gesture Recognition (SLGR) for people with hearing and speaking impairments. This is especially important in Indonesia, where there are approximately two million people with these disabilities. However, current research and developments on SLGR devices are specifically designed to understand only particular sign language systems, such as Korean Standard Sign Language (KSDSL) and American Sign Language (ASL), each of which has its unique gestures and models. As a result, no device has been developed to recognize the gestures of the Indonesian sign language system, known as Sistem Isyarat Bahasa Indonesia (SIBI). Therefore, this study aims to develop an SLGR device that can recognize and translate SIBI gestures into output images via text and speech. The development of the SLGR device in this study is conducted by using the Conceptual Design Approach (CDA) methodology. Where in this case, previous research on SLGR devices is first observed as a benchmark for comparison. Furthermore, the benchmark is used as the basis for the function, sub-function, and specification of the proposed design. Based on these stages of benchmarking and concept development, the study concluded that the final design of the proposed SLGR device is constructed by using 5 flex and Gyroscope sensors connected wirelessly to the Raspberry microcontroller. The device is equipped with a voice system and LCR RPi as the output system for translation. Based on the combination of these sensors, the device is able to identify any particular gestures that correspond to words and phrases in SIBI and translate them into speech via the designated speaker and text display on the LCD screen. To fully understand the performance of the device, experimental tests are conducted by analyzing the input of 26 alphabets in the SIBI system. As a result, the device demonstrated an average of 92% accuracy to convert sign language into voice and text, which demonstrates the usefulness of the proposed device

Abstract

This paper discusses the process of optimizing the truss structure step by step from 2D to 3D space using finite element analysis. This step-by-step optimization process is carried out to simplify the analysis of truss structures from simple to more complex cases. Optimization aims to obtain the minimum cross-sectional area and weight for each truss member. The stages of the optimization process carried out in this study are starting from a 2-dimensional (2D) truss structure with several two and five members to a 3-dimensional (3D) one-level tower with a total of 18 members. The optimum criterion as the constraint used is the full stress design method and the value of the cross-sectional area and weight of the structure as a result of optimization, leading to convergence during the iteration process. The tool used to run the iteration process is performed using Fortran software. The results of this optimization process are the total cross-sectional area (A) and a minimum of weight (W), that is, for a two-member truss A = 1 in2 and W = 4 lb, for a five-member truss A = 3.48 in2 and W = 14 lb. Furthermore, for a one-level of tower-space truss with a total of 18 elements, A = 57.91 in2 is obtained and the optimum weight of the truss structure is W = 134.02 lb. From these results, it can be seen that the optimization process that starts from simple to complex cases can be carried out easily and still takes into account the existing constraints

Abstract

Cracker snacks made from melinjo fruit are often found in the Pidie Regency area, Aceh. However, processing melinjo seeds into crackers is still manual and takes a long time. In this research, a melinjo peeling machine will be designed to speed up the production process of melinjo crackers. This peeler uses two different electricity sources so it can work in two conditions, namely the PLN electricity supply is on or off. The research method was carried out by collecting data from device testing results and field observations as well as comparing test results with previous research. The movement of the motor is controlled using Time Delay which gives a command to activate the relay and then turns on the 12 V DC motor. The motor rotates clockwise and anti-clockwise continuously (auto reverse) according to the direction of positive and negative potential which is controlled by the relay and Time Delay. The success rate of peeling the outer skin of melinjo seeds using the proposed tool is divided into three types based on differences in seed skin color. The percentage of success for red, orange, and yellowish green melinjo was 68.67%, 51.52% and 25.61% respectively. Thus, in this study, it can be concluded that the most efficient success rate is for red melinjo

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the vibration exposure experienced by workers in the Urea Granulation Screen Unit (UGSU) at the fertilizer factory in Aceh, Indonesia. This study involved 30 labors in charge as operators, mechanical maintenance officers, electrical maintenance officers, instrument maintenance officers, and inspectors. The measurement of vibration was carried out using a Triaxial Accelerometer with Integral Magnet and shows that the vibration exposure on the factory floor of the urea granulation screen unit occurs vertically with a minimum value of 0.298 m/s2 and a maximum of 1.630 m/s2. According to ISO 2631-1:1997, the maximum vibration values that occur are categorized as a likely health risk zone and result in uncomfortable reactions to the workers. Furthermore, this study analyzes the effect of vibrations on musculoskeletal problems using a Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. It reveals that the average score of musculoskeletal complaints is 71.6, which defines a high degree of pain. The results of the NBM questionnaire also showed that the vulnerable part of the body which experienced musculoskeletal complaints is the knee. The result of vibration exposure on this body part shows the highest value of 3.437 m/s2. To minimize occupational diseases and accidents, it is necessary to manage a working system that takes into account legal standards, ideal working time, and working shifts in the work area.
