Abstract

ABSTRACT Slope held a vital role in soil formation and development through erosion, transportation, and deposition. The degree of the slope determines the flow rate and volume of surface water, while the slope position determines rate of the erosion. The research aimed to understand the impact of the slope position against physical (texture, Bulk Density, top soil thickness,) and chemical (pH, Organic carbon, and cation exchange capacity (CEC)) and the correlation between the top soil thickness to physical and soil chemical properties. The research was conducted in April to June 2016. The soil samples were taken from 15-25% slope and three positions: upper slope, middle slope and lower slope. Each slope was repeated 5 times, hence 15 spots of soil samples were obtained. This research used descriptive comparative method and stratified purpose sampling as the sampling technique. The results of T-Student test showed that the slope position influenced the topsoil thickness of 6.91 point in the upper and middle slope and 3.89 point in the middle and lower slope. The results of the correlation test in each parameter in the upper hill showed there was correlation between top soil against dust fraction (r=0.826), top soil against clay fraction (r=0.823), and top soil against soil CEC (r=0.787). The middle slope showed there was correlation between top soil and soil pH (r=0.872) and topsoil to soil CEC (r=0.790). The lower slope showed there was correlation between top soil and soil pH (r=0.870).Key words: soil erosion, Inceptisols, slope position, topsoil

Abstract

This experiment aims to determine the effect of various concentrations of liquid fertilizer plus silica combined with N, P, and K inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of rice plants (oryza zativa). The trial was conducted in July 2018 to November 2018 in the Ciparanje experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor, Sumedang. The method used is Randomized Block Design (RBD) which consists of ten treatments with three replications; Treatment (A) Control, (B) standard NPK, (C) Plus Silica Liquid Fertilizer, (D) ¼ NPK + Silica Plus Liquid Fertilizer, (E) ½ NPK + Silica Plus Liquid Fertilizer, (F) ¾ NPK + Liquid Fertilizer Silica Plus, (G) NPK + Silica Plus Liquid Fertilizer, (H) ¾ NPK + ¼ Silica Plus Liquid Fertilizer, (I) ¾ NPK + ½ Silica Plus Liquid Fertilizer, (J) ¾ NPK + ¾ Silica Plus Liquid Fertilizer. The results showed that there was an effect of silica fertilizer on the growth and number of tillers after rice 8 MST. The treatment of F (¾ NPK + Liquid Fertilizer Plus Silica) gave the highest value to the yield of rice plants with the results of 53.31 gr of crop.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to evaluate actual and potential land suitability of mulato grass (Brachiaria hybrid cv. Mulato) as forage crop at Dago Dairy Lembang, UPBS Pangalengan and UPBS’s field at Cipunagara. The research is qualitative descriptive research with survey that the data taken from the field and supported by laboratory analysis. Soil sampling carried out by composite sampling method with diagonal systhematic pattern. Land quality obtained from land observation and laboratory analysis compared with mulato’s land suitability criteria to obtain the land suitability level. The actual land suitability level of mulato grass were about S2 (moderately suitable) to S3 (marginally suitable) at Dago Dairy’s field, S2 and S3 at UPBS Pangalengan’s field, S2, S3 and N (non-suitable) at UPBS’s field at Cipunagara. Limiting factors found were oxygen availability (oa), nutrient retention ability (nr), nutrient availability (na) and erosion hazard (eh). Each limiting factor fixed by soil drainage, calcium carbonate or sulfur application, fertilization and cover crop cultivation. Potential suitability of mulato grass after improvement were S1 to S2 at Dago Dairy, S1 to S2 at UPBS Pangalengan and S1, S2 to S3 at UPBS’s land at Cipunagara.

Abstract

The low productivity of cucumber plants in Indonesia can be caused by several factors, one of which is fertilization. Fertilization on Inceptisol soil which has a low nitrogen content is needed to increase cucumber crop yields. The use of inorganic fertilizers is limited to avoid environmental pollution, so the use of biofertilizers can be an environmentally friendly option. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of concentration and interval application of azolla extract based biofertilizer on the total soil N, plant N content, Azotobacter population and cucumber yield. The experiment was carried out from August to November 2021 at the Ciparanje Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University. This experiment used a Completely Randomized Block Design of a combination concentrations (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 mL.L-1) and time of application (1, 2, 3 times). The results showed that the application of azolla extract based biofertilizer with different concentrations and application times had a significant effect on the azotobacter population but had no significant effect on soil nitrogen levels, plant nitrogen concentrations, and cucumber yields. The addition of 20 mL/L 2 times application of azolla-based biofertilizer increased cucumber fruit weight by 35.97% compared to control but did not cause a significant increase in yield
