Abstract

The objective of this research aims to know the types, the causes of lexical error found in translating narrative text, and the steps of the implication theory for teaching English as a foreign language. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with the strategy of Case Study. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with the strategy of Case Study in which analyzing by describing the lexical errors that student produces in translating narrative text from English into Indonesian. The source of data is the narrative text entitled "The Fox and the Grapes". The data were collected by using review book and interview. Based on the research, the researcher found The errors included Prefix type (5 errors), Misselection (2 errors), Using wrong near-synonym (1 error), semantically determined word selection (28 error). Errors committed due to the learner’s inability to recall, errors caused by confusion between formally similar items. The theoretical implication for language teaching. The finding of this research hopefully can give a contribution to the English teaching and learning process.

Abstract

The writer used a strategy calls scanning strategy to solve students’ problems in reading comprehension. Scanning Strategy and reading interest give a significant influence on the students’ reading comprehension achievement especially for students who havea low reading interest. The teacher of English should be more creative to choose the technique for students.The main problem of this study was formulated as follows: ‘Was there any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the eighth grade students who had high reading interest taught by using scanning strategy and those who were taught by using conventional technique at Junior High School PGRI 1 of Palembang, was there any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the eighth grade students who had low reading interest taught by using scanning strategy and those who were taught by using conventional technique at Junior High School PGRI 1 of Palembang, was there any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the eighth grade students taught by using scanning strategy who had high and low reading interest at Junior High School PGRI 1 of Palembang, was there any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the eight grade students taught by using conventional technique who had high and low reading interest at Junior High School PGRI 1 of Palembang and were there any interaction effects of scanning strategy and students’ reading interest towards the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension achievement at Junior High School PGRI 1 of Palembang. This study used experimental research. method. The subjects of this study were eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 1 of Palembang. While the object of this research is the used 2 x 2 (two by two) factorial designs because there were two factors (Scanning Strategy and reading Interest) and two levels (low and High Reading Interest).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a significant difference in reading comprehension between students who are taught a summarizing technique and those who are not. Additionally, the study sought to determine whether there is a significant difference in reading comprehension between students who are taught a summarizing technique and those who have low reading motivation. The students in the seventh grade at Junior High School 18 Palembang were divided into two groups. In this investigation, factorial design was used. The study's population consisted of all 238 seventh-grade students enrolled in Junior High School 18 Palembang during the academic year 2023–2024. Saturation sampling was used to take samples from 68 students: 34 students from the VII.7 class were in the experimental group, while 34 students from the VII.6 class were in the control group. The researcher used a questionnaire to gather data in order to evaluate students' reading motivation. She also used traditional and summarizing techniques to teach students reading comprehension skills. The data were then analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics. The study's findings demonstrated a substantial difference in reading comprehension between students who were taught a summarizing strategy and those who were not, with regard to seventh-grade students at Junior High School 18 Palembang. The students with high reading motivation were taught the technique.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using realia media in teaching descriptive text writing of students at SMP Negeri 9 Prabumulih. The research method used in this research is experimental with pre-experimental design. The research design used one-group pretest-posttest design. The samples of this research were 30 students consisting of 17 male students and 13 female students. Data collection techniques are done by tests. Tests are given at the pretest and the posttest. The results of this research indicate that realia media was effective to use in teaching writing descriptive text to the eighth grade students’ at SMP Negeri 9 Prabumulih. After the data from the pretest and the posttest were analyzed, the average results of the pretest were 62.8 and the posttest was 74.48. This is reinforced by the t test obtained tcount> ttable which is 5.254> 1.699 based on these results indicate Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So it can be concluded that realia media was effective to use in teaching writing descriptive text at SMP Negeri 9 Prabumulih.
