Abstract

The FNPF, a non-profit organization, has made a one-of-a-kind initiative to save Bali starlings. The FNPF has incorporated volunteer tourism (voluntourism) into their Bali starling conservation project. The foundation has established a Bali starling conservation facility on the small island of Nusa Penida, Bali. Their activities are ranging from accommodating volunteer tourists from other countries to work and assisting in conservation activities. This paper intends to examine whether this voluntourism activity has a significant impact on the conservation of Bali starlings. Due to pandemic condition, this study had been conducted from a distance interview with the head of the Bali starling conservation activity in Nusa Penida. He also helped collecting data from the volunteers. According to the study's findings, volunteer tourism has an influence on Bali starling conservation. Despite the fact that the influence is indirect, it is considerably significant. As a result, voluntourism will continue to be implemented in Nusa Penida's Bali starling conservation efforts.

Abstract

The Braga heritage area is among the most famous tourist destinations in Bandung, Indonesia as this street is the location of numerous colonial-style heritage structures. Meanwhile, Generations Z reportedly will predominate the majority of travelers in the travel and tourism industry. They are viewed, though, as lacking a strong enough fascination with the subject of quality tourism including historical and heritage attractions. Interestingly, the coffee experience, which is also increasingly available in Braga, is beginning to draw the interest of Generation Z. The research question is whether the growth of heritage tourism such as in Braga Street, which rely on historical narrative, will be supported in the future by the rise of the Gen-Z tourist market circles, and whether coffee experience will be strong enough to attract them to come. In this qualitative research approach, ten respondents were agreed to describe their experiences as they perceived them. This study finds that the attractiveness of heritage buildings in the Braga area and the coffee experience are mutually reinforcing. If there was no place for Generation Z to get coffee, they would be hesitant to visit the Braga Heritage area to admire the historic buildings. The heritage atmosphere provided in the Braga area, on the other hand, was reported to be what inspired Gen Z tourists to have a coffee experience there. This article also discusses a number of other conceptual findings regarding how Gen Z perceives the heritage precinct of Braga.

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak provides the tourism industry incalculable lessons. Many businesses are concentrating on resilience, but few have explored the potential benefits of social capital. This article explains how utilising social capital might help business hotels boost their resilience during times of crisis. Social capital is inextricably linked to social networks, group collaboration, and trust among internal and external stakeholders. The research conducts in March to August 2021. The data was assessed qualitatively through interviews with four informants from the hospitality industry (Hotel Managers) and hotel associations. According to the research, social capital manifests itself in a variety of ways to assist hotels in times of difficulty. Internally, fighting a pandemic requires a willingness to compromise, with the hotel's leadership and creativity playing a critical role. Externally, the government's and associations' roles have a significant impact on hotel resiliency. Collaboration with associations and other external parties has been demonstrated to assist hotels during times of crises. Social capital cannot be created instantly but must be nurtured from the beginning of the hotel's operations. In turn, the social capital that has been established will ensure the hotel's long-term sustainability facing challenges. Keywords: social capital, hotel resilience, COVID-19, tourism industry, business sustainability

Abstract

The context for this research is a paucity of initiatives that support tourism marketing, particularly the establishment of innovative tourist communities in Bandung. The goal of this research is to make recommendations to the Bandung City Government, specifically the Disbudpar, for creating tourism marketing strategies, particularly in the Binong Rajut Creative Village. Binong Knitting Tourism Village has significant potential as a creative tourism destination. According to the SWOT analysis, this town is in a strategic position to adopt an aggressive expansion strategy that includes leveraging its strengths in implementing Sapta Pesona, diversifying tourist packages, and providing enough amenity facilities. However, shortcomings in HR and integrated marketing competencies must be rectified. Strategy recommendations include maximizing social media advertising, enhancing the quality and quantity of tourism products, and working with the government, tourism sector stakeholders, communities, and academia to promote innovation and competitiveness. Better management can be achieved through training, seminars, and conversations that create collaborative networks and enhance HR competency. With a planned approach and stakeholder participation, the Binong Knitting Tourism Village may grow its attractiveness as a tourist attraction, benefit the local economy, and conserve local culture. Implementing this plan will promote long-term growth and community welfare in the tourism industry, establishing the Binong Rajut Tourism Village as a successful model for community-based tourism development.

Abstract

The tourism industry in Indonesia has experienced significant growth, particularly following the post-COVID-19 recovery and the rise of the creative economy. As the sector rebounds, travel agencies play a crucial role in facilitating domestic ticket sales and travel packages. Traditional travel agencies, such as PT Anta Express Tour & Travel, face competition from online booking platforms, which calls for a study on the unique value offered by travel consultants in enhancing customer experiences and the sales process. This study aims to explore the role of travel consultants at PT Anta Express Tour & Travel in domestic travel ticket sales. Using a qualitative research approach, data was gathered through direct observation, semi-structured interviews, and a review of relevant literature. The findings highlight four key roles played by travel consultants: providing personalized advice and recommendations, managing bookings, resolving issues, and delivering customer service. Additionally, three main reasons were identified for why customers still prefer using travel consultants: convenience, access to exclusive offers, and ongoing support during the trip. The study concludes that travel agencies can maintain their competitiveness by focusing on personalized services that appeal to specific customer segments, particularly those who value professional advice and human interaction in their travel planning. Therefore, traditional and online booking channels can coexist in the future, serving different market needs.

Abstract

This research investigates the success of the "K-POP Dance Cover Showcase & Charity Event (SxS Ngabuburit Vol. 2)" as a case study within event tourism, focusing on its utilization of Ramadan as a catalyst for charitable giving. Grounded in a participatory approach, the researcher, actively involved in event planning and execution, augmented findings with interviews of the organizing leader. The event, held within a local community, attracted 20 dance groups and 300 spectators, raising Rp. 2.6 million for charity, solely from local participants. K-Pop's global influence transcends entertainment, extending to philanthropic endeavors. The integration of K-Pop with charitable initiatives, especially within a local context, remains underexplored. A participatory approach intertwined with semi-structured interviews was adopted. The researcher's involvement from planning to execution provided first-hand insights, while interviews with the organizing leader unveiled motivations and operational intricacies. Ramadan served as a pivotal driver, harnessing spiritual values to mobilize youth towards charitable acts. The event exemplified communal solidarity and social consciousness, transcending cultural boundaries. Operational insights highlighted strategic alignment with Ramadan's temporal significance, guiding decision-making processes. This study elucidates the success of the "SxS Ngabuburit Vol. 2" event, showcasing how the integration of K-Pop with Ramadan charity initiatives fosters community engagement and philanthropy. Recommendations include leveraging cultural and temporal contexts to maximize impact in future event planning.

Abstract

This research examines the role of Fama Tour & Travel in implementing school study tours, within the context of Indonesia's national tourism goals and the educational P5 program (Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila). P5 is a key initiative within the Kurikulum Merdeka aimed at shaping student character based on the values of Pancasila. Employing a qualitative methodology using observation, interviews, and documentation at Fama Tour & Travel in Bandung, the study investigates the agency's processes for developing study tour packages, consulting with schools, and executing the tours. Key findings reveal a six-step package creation process, a four-stage consultation process involving schools and their committees, and three crucial roles in implementation: conceptualising attractive events, aligning programs with school objectives (including historical and cultural learning), and keeping up with current trends. The research concludes that Fama Tour & Travel effectively manages study tours and aligns its programs with the educational aims of the schools, contributing to tourism and supporting initiatives like P5. A recommendation for Fama Tour & Travel is to reconsider itinerary scheduling to avoid overly packed days.

Abstract

The culinary sector in Bandung, particularly Korean-themed cafes like Café Chingu, has experienced significant growth, attracting both local and out-of-town visitors. This study aims to analyse the factors influencing customer visit interest at a Korean-themed café in Bandung, and to examine the influence of its attractiveness in drawing visitors. It is posited that the unique Korean theme and the culinary offerings significantly contribute to visitor interest. This research employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach to understand the phenomenon of visitor interest in Café Chingu. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with five visitors to Café Chingu. These interviews aimed to gather in-depth information regarding the factors influencing their decision to visit and their perceptions of the café's attractiveness. The findings indicate that the main factor that draws visitors to come initially is its unique Korean theme. Yet, the main factors that make visitors want to revisit are the authentic taste of the Korean food and the comfortable and unique atmosphere. The findings suggest that Café Chingu can further optimise its marketing strategies by highlighting its distinctive Korean theme and culinary authenticity to cater to both K-Pop enthusiasts and individuals seeking unique dining experiences. Further research could explore the impact of social media and broader demographic groups to enhance these findings.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of Event Organizers in activating tourism activities in Bantaragung Village, Majalengka Regency, West Java, through a case study of the 2024 Bumi Bantaragung Festival organized by Sauyunan Creation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies. Findings reveal that the Event Organizer plays a central role across three critical stages: pre-event planning and knowledge transfer, during-event management and MSME activation, and post-event capacity building and infrastructure sustainability. Results indicate that Event Organizer intervention provides significant benefits economically through increased local MSME income, socio-culturally through preservation of local traditions, and organizationally through capacity transfer enabling independent village management. However, the study identifies challenges related to rapid social change and unequal distribution of economic impacts requiring continued assistance. This study contributes to community-based tourism literature by presenting a collaborative model among Event Organizers, financial institutions, and local communities that can be replicated for sustainable tourism village development in Indonesia.
