Abstract

This study aims to obtain a picture of improving the ability of mathematical communication on the implementation of learning contextual teaching and learning approach viewed from the level of student learning interest. The method used in this research is an experiment with factorial design 3 x 2. The population is all junior high school students in Karawang regency with the subject of the sample is two classes of X in one of SMP Negeri in Kabupaten Karawang. The first class gets learning with contextual teaching and learning, and the second class gets learning by direct learning. From the research, it can be concluded that there are differences in the mathematical communication ability of the students whose learning using Contextual Teaching and Learning learning with direct learning, there is no difference in the improvement of mathematical communication ability among students who have high, medium and low learning interest, there is an interaction between the learning approach and the level interest in learning to improve the ability of mathematical communication, the implementation of learning using Contextual Teaching and Learning learning has been running with the steps that have been determined, the students' difficulties in completing the problem of understanding and mathematical communication lies in the indicator (a) linking a concept/principle with the concept/principle (b) can apply formulas in simple calculations and work on algorithmic calculations, (c) associate a concept/principle with other concepts/principles.

Abstract

A passive class condition is one of the factors causing low mathematical problem solving ability, where students are less involved in learning. Cooperative learning is an alternative in improvement. The research was conducted in Cidaun 1 Public Middle School, amounting to 30 people precisely in class VII.F in the even semester of the school year 20018/2019. The results showed that the first cycle test obtained an average score of 43.7%, after the implementation of the jigsaw type cooperative learning model, the cycle II test obtained an average score of 63.8 % and the cycle III test obtained an average score average of 72.2%. The number of students who pass the increase on the first cycle of 16.66%, 36.67% for the second cycle and the third cycle of 63.34%.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a picture of improving the ability of mathematical understanding on the implementation of learning with metaphorical thinking approach in terms of student interest level. The method used in this research is an experiment with factorial design 3 x 2. The population is all high school students in Cianjur Regency with the sample subject is two classes of X in one of senior high school in Cianjur environment. The first class gets learning with metaphorical thinking approach, and the second class gets instruction with direct instruction model. From the research, it can be concluded that there is no difference in the improvement of mathematical understanding among high school students who get the learning with Metaphorical Thinking and Direct Instruction approach. There is a difference in the increase of mathematical understanding among the students whose interest level is high with a medium, low, and low with high, there is no interaction between the learning model and the level of student's learning interest in improving the ability of mathematical understanding.

Abstract

This study is a pretest-postest experiment control group design having a goal to analyze the role of Previous Mathematical Ability and Reciprocal Teaching in mathematics (RTM) on students’ mathematical reasoning ability (MRA) and self concept in mathematics (SCM). The study involves 66 seventh grade students, a PMA test,  a MRA test, and a SCM scale, and student’s perception on RTM. The study revealed that RTM took better role than PMA on obtaining MRA and SCM. For entirely students and of students with high PMA in both teaching approaches and the grades of MRA and SCM were at high level. Besides that, study found there were no association between MRA and SCM and there were no interaction between PMA and teaching approaches toward RMA and SCM. Like  that, students expressed positive opinion on RTM, even if, student still realized few difficulties in solving MRA,

Abstract

For students learning mathematics, mastery of concepts is important, one of which relates one concept to another. One of the abilities that students must have is the ability to connect mathematically, but it turns out that the facts in the field are still relatively low. In order to improve the learning process, a combination of scientific and contextual approaches can be used by developing teaching materials. This study aims to develop teaching materials using a combination of scientific and contextual approaches to improve the mathematical connection skills of junior high school students, the method used is Research and Development (R&D) ADDIE model. The results obtained from the limited and wider trial validity are valid and feasible to be used at the product testing stage, at the limited trial stage the practicality of lesson plans and worksheets by teachers is in the practical category and at the wider trial stage it is in the very practical category, the practicality of Student Worksheets by students at the limited trial stage and more broadly is in the practical category, The effectiveness was in the quite effective category in the limited trial stage, and it was in the effective category in the wider trial stage, then the implementation in the limited trial stage obtained a percentage of 81.2% and in the wider trial stage a percentage of 89.7% was obtained and for increasing mathematical connection ability, the N-Gain was 0.58 which was included in the medium category.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the achievement and improvement of the ability of understanding and mathematical reasoning and motivation through Think Talk Write (TTW) approach to junior high school students. The population in this study is all junior high school in West Bandung Regency and the sample is class VIII of SMPS Darun Nasya, The instrument used in the research is a question of understanding and mathematical reasoning and questionnaire of learning motivation attitude, then the data obtained is processed through a two-way ANOVA test and correlation and regression test, data processing using IBM Statistics SPSS 21. Results of research involving TTW as independent variables in the experimental class and direct learning in the control class showed: There was a difference in achievement and improvement of mathematical understanding between control and experiment class, There are differences in achievement and improvement of mathematical reasoning between control and experiment class, There is difference of student's learning motivation between control and experiment class.
