Abstract

Abstract

Gastritis is a common digestive disorder in adults with irregular lifestyles and eating patterns. This qualitative case study collected data through four traditional examination methods: observation (Wang), hearing and smell (Wen), interviews (Wen), and palpation (Qie), complemented by documentation. The participant, a 31-year-old male with heartburn, received six sessions of acupuncture therapy. Based on the examination results, a diagnosis of Deficient Spleen and Cold Stomach Syndrome was made. The evaluation showed positive progress, with a significant reduction in heartburn, accompanied by an improvement in appetite, and the elimination of bloating and nausea. This case study is expected to provide additional material to enrich the knowledge of acupuncture students. For future researchers, this report can serve as a reference for treating stomach pain with an acupuncture approach. For the wider community, these findings reinforce acupuncture as an effective and safe therapeutic modality for functional stomach disorders, in addition to available conventional treatment options.

Abstract

Sciatica is a lumbosacral radicular pain condition that often leads to functional limitations and decreased quality of life. Acupuncture with electrical stimulation is one of the non-pharmacological therapies used in the management of sciatica. The dense–disperse mode of electroacupuncture is reported to provide a more stable analgesic effect through alternating low- and high-frequency stimulation. This study aimed to describe the benefits of acupuncture care using dense–disperse electrical stimulation in reducing pain among sciatica patients at BSA Acupuncture Clinic, Depok. This study employed a descriptive design involving sciatica patients who received acupuncture therapy with dense–disperse electrical stimulation based on standard acupuncture protocols. Pain reduction was evaluated during the treatment period. The results indicated that acupuncture care with dense–disperse electrical stimulation contributed to improvement in pain complaints among sciatica patients. This therapy may serve as a safe and effective non-pharmacological alternative for pain management in sciatica cases in clinical acupuncture settings.

Abstract

Dyspepsia is a collection of symptoms related to gastroduodenal disorders, such as pain or burning in the epigastrium, postprandial fullness, upper abdominal bloating, and early satiety. Dyspepsia is classified into two types, namely organic dyspepsia and functional dyspepsia. Organic dyspepsia is accompanied by structural abnormalities such as gastritis, peptic ulcers, gastric cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and gastric acid hypersecretion, whereas functional dyspepsia does not show abnormalities on physical examination or endoscopy. Dietary and lifestyle factors play a major role in the occurrence of dyspepsia, including the consumption of spicy, fatty, and baked foods; overeating; coffee consumption; smoking habits; alcohol intake; the use of anti-inflammatory drugs; and lack of physical activity. This study is qualitative research with a case study approach using a purposive sampling technique on one respondent. The measuring tool used was the change in dyspepsia symptoms before and after the intervention. The results showed that after four sessions of acupuncture therapy, there was a decrease in pain intensity and dyspepsia symptoms. Based on these results, acupuncture can be considered a complementary therapy for the treatment of dyspepsia in patients at the Griya Sehat Thabib Clinic Prof. Jim Bekasi.

Abstract

Adiposity is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by excessive fat accumulation and an increased risk of noncommunicable diseases. Its rising prevalence in Indonesia requires effective and safe therapeutic approaches. Acupuncture, as a complementary therapy, is considered to have potential in regulating metabolism and energy balance. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for weight loss in adiposity patients at the Sehat “Tade” Clinic, Cilegon. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method involving one 48-year-old female participant with a BMI of 37 kg/m². Acupuncture therapy was performed in six sessions over three weeks. Data were obtained through the four Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) examination methods: observation (Wang), listening and smelling (Wen), inquiry (Wen), and palpation (Qie). Effectiveness was assessed based on a comparison of pre- and post-intervention conditions, including weight loss, changes in BMI, clinical complaints, and TCM examination results. After six therapy sessions, there was weight loss and improvement in clinical complaints such as low back pain and headache. TCM examination showed improvement in tongue condition, reduced abdominal tenderness on palpation, and enhanced energy levels and emotional regulation in the patient. The participant also demonstrated positive changes in diet, rest, and physical activity. Acupuncture treatment administered in a structured and individualized manner is effective in promoting weight loss and improving clinical conditions in adiposity patients. This therapy has the potential to serve as a complementary approach in adiposity management and can be further developed through studies with a larger number of participants.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Fluor albus (pathological leukorrhea) remains a prevalent gynecological complaint in Indonesia, with conventional antimicrobial therapy often limited by side effects and drug resistance. This single-case study evaluated the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in managing fluor albus due to Spleen Qi Deficiency with Dampness Accumulation pattern according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles. A 43-year-old female participant presenting with excessive white-yellowish sticky vaginal discharge, fatigue, abdominal distension postprandially, unformed stools, and cold-heavy sensation in extremities received six acupuncture sessions twice weekly at Griya Sehat "de_maemun", Cirebon. The intervention protocol included tonification techniques at SP-6 (Sanyinjiao), SP-4 (Gongsun), ST-36 (Zusanli), CV-6 (Qihai), GB-26 (Daimai), and BL-20 (Pishu), combined with reduction techniques at SP-9 (Yinlingquan) and CV-9 (Shuifen), supplemented by moxibustion at ST-36 and CV-6. Progressive clinical improvement was observed: by session 3, discharge volume significantly decreased; by session 5, pathological discharge ceased completely with clean undergarments; by session 6, all primary and secondary symptoms resolved entirely. Objective signs normalized progressively—tongue transformed from swollen with thick yellow greasy coating to pink with thin white coating, and pulse shifted from deep-weak-slow-slippery to normal rhythm. The participant also reported restored digestive function (formed stools, no postprandial bloating), elimination of cold sensation in extremities, improved sleep quality, and enhanced energy levels. Acupuncture effectively resolved fluor albus through dual mechanisms of Spleen Qi tonification and Dampness elimination, aligning with the TCM therapeutic principle "Jian Pi Chu Shi" (strengthening Spleen to resolve Dampness). This case demonstrates acupuncture's potential as a safe, non-pharmacological complementary therapy for gynecological disorders with metabolic-gastrointestinal etiology. Keywords: Fluor Albus, Acupuncture, Spleen Qi Deficiency, Dampness. Pendekatan diferensiasi sindrom berbasis etiologi metabolik-gastrointestinal terbukti memberikan respons klinis bermakna tanpa efek samping farmakologis. Kata Kunci: Asuhan Akupunktur, Fluor Albus, Keputihan Patologis, Defisiensi Qi Limpa.

Abstract

Myalgia is a common musculoskeletal disorder characterized by muscle pain and discomfort, often caused by excessive activity, poor posture, or stress. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is used to regulate Qi and Xue flow to relieve pain and improve body function. This research aims to determine the benefits of acupuncture care in overcoming pain in the shoulder and neck area in myalgia patients at the Iryas Cisauk Health Clinic. This research used a qualitative descriptive design with a case study approach in one myalgia patient. Data collection was carried out through anamnesis, physical examination, and examinations based on TCM principles such as pulse and tongue examinations. Pain intensity was measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Acupuncture therapy is administered during eight sessions of visits, and evaluations are carried out at each session to see the progression of the patient's condition. The results showed significant improvement after acupuncture therapy. The patient's pain scale decreased from NRS 6 to 0–1 after eight therapy sessions. In addition, there is an increase in the range of motion in the neck and shoulders, a reduction in pain points, and an improvement in daily activities and the quality of sleep of patients. Acupuncture care provided in a structured manner based on the diagnosis of TCM syndrome is effective in reducing myalgia pain, improving movement function, and helping the patient's condition recover. Acupuncture therapy can be a safe and beneficial alternative to non-pharmacological therapy in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain.
