Abstract

The use of electrical lamp for attracting of small pelagic fish in Indonesia has been developed. Fixed lift net  is a fishing gear type categorize into lift net with fine meshed of box-shaped netting  of 0.5 cm mesh size, operated using   lamp for attracting pelagic fish. The gear can be   classified into the two types, i.e an original type of fixed bagan and floated bagan. The fixed bagan is set on the seabed byfixed in one place and can not be moved, while the floated bagan is not fixed in one place but it can be moved according to the Preferable fishing ground.  Several studies  for fixed bagan were conducted in Makassar Strait South Sulawesi on using of various of electric lamp, namely Halogen, Mercury and Incandescent lamp with lighting power of 500 W for evaluation of the total catch. The studies were  conducted from April to November  2012 in Makassar Strait. The fishing process was analyzed through  onboard observation during fishing operation and  interviewing to the bagan rambo’s fishermen. The result showed that the small pelagic fish species to prefer the halogen lamp compare with the mercury and incandescent lamp. Statistically analysis  indicated the significance difference between halogen lamp and incandescent lamp. Based on this research indicated that, incandescent lamp was more effectively for using as attracting for small pelagic species of fixed lift net in the coastal area.

Abstract

Abstract

Purse seine productivity is related to the ability of fishing gear to catch fish that are clustered in the waters and the distribution of pelagic fish in the waters depends on changes in the moon phases that occur. Thus, this research aims to determine the productivity of fishing using purse seines based on changes in lunar phases in Bulukumba Regency. This research was conducted in Bulukumba Regency from July to September 2020. Data was collected by participating in 28 direct fishing trips. The research data used is primary data, namely the type and number of catches grouped based on lunar phases, namely dark, dark to light, light and light to dark periods. Secondary data used are the results of interviews with fishermen and literature studies. The research results showed that there were eight types of fish species caught during the research (scad, mackerel, yellowstripe trevally, frigate tuna, pinkear emperor, barred garfish, rainbow runner, and squid). The three dominant fish caught in each lunar phase were scad (Decapterus spp) with a total of 2.582 kgs, mackerel (Rastrelliger sp) total 1.651 kgs, and yellowstripe trevally (Selaroides sp) total 1.476 kgs. The highest productivity occurred in the second haul during the dark moon period at 0.64 kg/minute and there were no real differences in catch based on moon phase.

Abstract

The activity of small pelagic fish is influenced by light, so changes in the moon phase will impact the distribution of fish, especially small pelagic fish. Therefore, this research aims to determine the concentration of fish based on lunar phases and explain the composition and frequency of fishing based on lunar phases in Bulukumba Regency. This research aims to provide information to fishermen to determine potential fishing areas. Data was collected in Bulukumba from July to September 2020 following 28 fishing trips using purse seines. The data used are primary and secondary. Primary data consists of the type and number of catches grouped based on lunar phases, namely dark, dark-to-light, light, and light-to-dark periods. Secondary data was obtained from interviews and literature studies. The data analysis used calculates the composition and frequency of catches. The results showed that there were eight types of fish caught during the research. The types of fish most commonly seen are trevally (Decapterus spp), yellow trevally (Selaroides sp), and mackerel (Rastrelliger spp). The highest catch frequency of these three types of fish occurred during the light-dark and light-dark periods.

Abstract

Catching flying fish in Sendana Majene Subdistrict is carried out continuously with gill nets 1-1.5 inches. The catch of flying fish is mostly still young fish (not yet worth catching). The demand for flying fish is quite high due to the existence of special stalls of smoke fly fish around fishing settlements. Apart from smoke flying fish, dried flying fish are also sold as souvenirs. Therefore, fishermen will continue to increase production. Various results of research and field observations show that gill net is able to catch flying fish well but the size of fish caught is dominated by young fish. The effort to increase the net mesh size to 1.5 inches resulted in the diminishing number of young flying fish. Catching flying fish in Majene waters is generally carried out with drifting gill nets with mesh sizes of 1 and 1.25 inches which are very intensive every fishing season while L50 (11.92 cm) and Lm (13.59 cm) for 1 inch more net mesh size were smaller compared to the length of the first gonad maturity, in this case most of the catch is still classified as young fish (Palo, 2009). Partners are a group of flying fish fishermen. Partner problems, flying fish production is getting smaller, group capacity is not strong and group management is still weak. Partners have not been able to obtain assistance facilities from various community empowerment programs carried out by the government. The approach to be used in this service includes: identification, observation, counseling, demonstration, construction, application, assistance, field observation and evaluation monitoring. Indicators of the success of activities are measured based on the results of the application of technology compared to the results of fishing gear commonly used by fishermen. Implementation of service includes counseling, construction of fishing gear, fishing operations and assistance has been going well. The size of 1.5-inch mesh is only able to catch flying fish in a limited amount, while the size of the 1.25-inch mesh can catch flying fish in relatively large numbers. Flying fish caught with 1.25-inch mesh size has passed the size of the first gonad mature so that it supports sustainable fisheries.
