Abstract

Batam City is an industrial city and has a total area of 1,570.35 km2 with a land area of 715 km2. Following the economic development and increasing population, the green open space in Batam City is decreasing. The purpose of this research was to analyze the adequacy of Batam’s green open space based on the criteria of Law No. 26 of 2007 concerning Spatial Planning and Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 5 of 2008 concerning Guidelines and Utilization of Green Open Space. This research was conducted with a spatial analysis method based on land cover information from the interpretation of Landsat 8 OLI image recording on 05-06-2018. Based on the results showed that Batam’s green open space is still 221.400 ha or 32.05% from land area. It means, Batam City’s open space is still sufficient at least 30% according to Law No. 26 of 2007 and Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 5 of 2008. The largest type of land cover in green open space is secondary dry land forest, covering 79.200 ha (11.45%). Keyword : Batam City, analysis, green open space.

Abstract

Abstract

Friendly peatland utilization is often regarded as ‘difficult’, ‘adding new cost,” and ‘unfavorable’ to the cultivated crops. Such views appear to restrain farmers in general to adopt friendlier methods in utilizing peatlands. In response to the call for improving their practices farmers often demand proven peat-friendly but profittable practices. Therefore, convincing evidences, such as successful farmers with such practices as models, are needed. In one of villages in Siak regency, Riau Province, we encountered a farmer figure that is potentially promoted as a model in this regard. However, after evaluating what he really practiced, we found that some improvements were needed to make his practices truly peat friendlier. Our paper concerns the results of our interactions with this figure in order to improve the: (a) control of groundwater level; (b) prevention of peat decomposition; (c) prevention of peat subsidence; (d) reduction of carbon emission; (e) diversification of the farm’s products; (f) aesthetic value of the farm; and (g) promotion to potential visitors and market the farm’s products.

Abstract

Land evaluation is the process of comparing a series of data on land, vegetation and climate with specific use requirements. The goal to be achieved is to determine land use options as a bridge between physical, biological and technological components with economic goals to be achieved in a particular form of land use. Agroforestry is an integrated land use system, which has social and ecological aspects, implemented by combining trees with agricultural crops and / or livestock (animals), either jointly or in rotation. This study aims to identify land characteristics, evaluate the level of land suitability and how to develop a combination pattern of agroforestry plants based on Liberika Coffee that is right for the sake of improving the economy of the community in Kedabu Rapat Village. The method used is survey method and soil sampling by transect line at 1 kilometer intervals proportionally. The data analysis performed was scoring and matching between land characteristics and quality data with plant growth requirements using ArcGIS 10.2 software. The results showed that the annual average rainfall was 1,200-2,400 mm / year, temperatures were between 25 ° C - 32 ° C, flat topography with a classification of slope (<3%), soil types were Organosols and Gleihumus, flood hazard from none to moderate and the danger level of landslides and erosion is very light or not prone. The land suitability level for agroforestry based on Liberika Coffee with shade in the form of Coconut, Areca nut and Geronggang plants is very suitable (S1) covering an area of ± 848.64 ha (34.78%), the appropriate category (S2) covering an area of ± 584.54 ha (23, 96%), the category according to marginal (S3) is ± 521.78 ha (21.38%), and the unsuitable category (N) is ± 380.42 ha (15.59%) while the settlement area is ± 104.61 ha (4.29%). The combination pattern of agroforestry plants based on Liberika Coffee with shade plants of Coconut, Pinang and Geronggang in Kedabu Rapat Village is combination pattern 1 (border tree planting / trees along border) and combination pattern 2 (alley cropping) where Liberika Coffee plants are 2.5 x spacing. 2.5 m, Coconut spacing 10 x 10 m, Pinang spacing 2.5 x 2.5 m and Geronggang spacing 5 x 5 m.

Abstract

Peatland fires are a serious problem in the Peat Hydrological Unit (PHU) of Rangsang Island for the last 20 years. The level of peatland fires that are quite severe can only be extinguished by rainfall. The analysis of spatial and temporal characteristics of peatland fires related to distribution of hotspots with a confidence level >60%, using Landsat imagery and pattern formed as an indication of the burned area caused by the hotspot data in the last 20 years (2001-2020). This analysis is expected to provide a reference that is able to explain the characteristics of peatland fires, including total area burned, duration of peat fire and the rate of peat fire that occurs every year. The results of hotspot analysis are overlapped with on-off layer technique of Landsat imagery that has been composited band using GIS (Geographic Information System). delineation results are used as the basis for obtaining the characteristics of peatland fires in the Rangsang Island KHG.The results of the delineation were used as the basis for obtaining the characteristics of peatland fires in the Rangsang Island KHG. In this study, the total area of fires that occurred in Rangsang Island KHG in a period of 20 years reached 114,982.71 ha, with a total duration of 308 days of fire.
