Abstract

This study focused on the use of peer teaching technique to improve students’ mastery on present perfect tense. The research method used was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research data included the results of the pre-test and post-test regarding the present perfect tense. The data collection techniques used were classroom observation, interviews, pre-test, and post-test. The results of this study showed that the average score of students was 31.2 in pretest, increased from 60.7 in Cycle I to 88.3 in Cycle II. It indicated that the use of peer teaching technique could improve students' understanding in mastering the present perfect tense. This technique can be one of the effective ways for lecturers in teaching tenses especially present perfect tense.

Abstract

Abstract: The aims of this study was to describe the learning atmosphere when the implementation of Web-based learning materials and to find out how the improvement of the students’ basic skill during the implementation of Web-based learning materials. This was classroom action research type of research. The participants of this research were the Business Administration students of State Polytechnic Bengkalis. This research was conducted in two cycles by following the procedure of action research, i.e. planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview, questionnaire, and test. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The qualitative data were analyzed using Interactive Model of Data Analysis as propounded by Matthew M. Miles and A.M. Huberman. The results of the research showed that the learning atmosphere also improved. The class became more active, confident, and enjoyable. Furthermore, a Web-based learning material was able to improve the students’ Basic English Skill. It was proven by the increase of the students’ mean score from 41.22 in pre-test to 46.74 in cycle 1, and 49.92 in cycle 2. This result shows that the use of Web-based learning materials has proven to be an effective way in teaching-learning of Basic English skill.

Abstract

This study is expected to provide an overview of the factors that affect TOEIC Passing Grades in TOEIC Intensive Course for Final Year Students. The purpose of this study is to conduct an empirical investigation whether the internal factor variable and external factors affect the variable of passing grade. The total populations in this study were 150 respondents. The data were collected through questionnaires. Data analysis was done by multiple regression using SPSS version 22. The result showed that internal factor had an effect on student's learning achievement, while external factor had no influence to the TOEIC passing grades. Keywords : Internal, external, intensive, TOEIC

Abstract

In improving students' English competence, Bengkalis State Polytechnic holds TOEIC Institutional training for students who have obtained TOEIC scores above 400 for diploma three and 450 for diploma four. Students must have a good English certificate in order to continue their studies, scholarships and apply for work. This study was conducted to determine whether there are differences in TOEIC scores in Institutional TOEIC Training for students between classes A, B and C. Data analysis was done by Anova using SPSS version 22. The population in this study was 60 students. The results of this study indicate that student learning outcomes or TOEIC scores in the Institutional TOEIC Training between class A, class B and class C are significantly different.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the students needs for effective English online learning during Covid-19 for State Polytechnic of Bengkalis students. Descriptive survey method was used to find out the target needs and learning needs related to online learning. The data collection used was questionnaire with random samples of 116 students from five different study program. The result of the finding revealed that there were several tools that can be used during online class by considering both students and teachers internet access. The effective tools that can be utilized in explaining the subject and as the virtual tool to replace face to face meeting is Zoom application, while to share and submit the assignment the students preferred Google classroom and WhatsApp. Numerous activities and learning input are also highlighted in order to engage the students to be active in online class. The teachers roles in online class is pointed.

Abstract

Abstract: The Vocational Program is indeed a pre-educational program that aims to prepare students who can create competence and abilities in their industries, who are ready to work, and can compete globally. Differences in teaching Lecturers' perceptions still occur, resulting in the learning and teaching process being treated differently, as well as the influence of assessment standards on students with varying standards, particularly in the production of students' final projects. This study intends to determine lecturers' perceptions of teaching methods and vocational development in the language department, which will be useful in equating useful perceptions in output standards and assessments of students’ final project in Bengkalis Language Department- State Polytechnic of Bengkalis. Abstract

Abstract The objectives of this research are to know the description of changes in phonological structure of vocabulary prokem language, and morphologically used between characters in Ganteng Ganteng Serigala (GGS) cinema in each scene. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The subject in this research is inter-character dialogue between the characters in the GGS cinema in episode 1-30. The objects of this study include speech prokem languages that exist in interpersonal dialogues in the GGS cinema. Data collection techniques used in this research is the technique observed and noted. Data analysis in this research using descriptive method. The technique used is distributional technique. The results showed that 1. Based on changes in the phonological structure, the vocabulary of the language between the GGS cinema has a sound change. Experiencing sound changes. Changes that occur are modifications and neutralization. Modification is the change in vowel sound as a result of the influence of other sounds that follow, while neutralization is a change in phonemic sound as a result of environmental influences, which means that the phonological changes in the prokem language between the GGS cinema have changed which are arbitrators. The process of change is the removal of vowels, replacement of vowels, removal of the last syllables, and insertion of vowel consonants. 2. Based on the morphological formation of vocabulary language between the characters of the GGS cinema, there is a process of abbreviation of the word. The process is 1) abbreviation consisting of acronyms formed from one initial letter of each word, 2) acronyms are formed from two words and duplicated, 3) acronyms are formed from three words, and 4) acronyms are formed from two syllables last in the first word and combined with the second word. Keyword: style, language, prokem, cinema Abstrak Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui deskripsi perubahan struktur fonologis kosakata bahasa prokem dan secara morfologis yang digunakan antartokoh sinetron Ganteng Ganteng Serigala (GGS) dalam setiap adegan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah dialog bahasa prokem antartokoh dalam sinetron GGS dalam setiap adegan setiap episode 1-30 yang ditayangkan. Objek penelitian ini meliputi tuturan-tuturan bahasa prokem yang ada pada dialog antartokoh dalam sinetron GGS. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik simak dan catat. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Teknik yang digunakan adalah teknik distribusional. Data analisis memberikan paparan bahwa1.Berdasarkan pembentukan secara morfologis kosakata bahasa prokem antartokoh sinetron GGS, terdapat proses abreviasi (pemendekan) kata. Proses tersebut yaitu 1) abreviasi yang terdiri atas akronim yang dibentuk dari satu huruf awal dari masing-masing kata, 2) akronim dibentuk dari dua kata dan direduplikasi, 3) akronim dibentuk dari dari tiga kata, dan 4) akronim dibentuk dari dua suku kata terkahir pada kata pertama dan digabungkan dengan kata kedua. 2. Berdasarkan perubahan struktur fonologisnya, kosakata bahasa prokem antartokoh sinetron GGS mengalami perubahan bunyi. mengalami perubahan bunyi. Perubahan yang terjadi adalah modifikasi dan netralisasi. Modifikasi yakni perubahan bunyi vokal sebagai akibat dari pengaruh bunyi lain yang mengikutinya, sedangkan netralisasi merupakan perubahan bunyi fonemis sebagai akibat pengaruh lingkungan, yang artinya perubahan fonologis bahasa prokem antartokoh sinetron ganteng ganteng serigala mengalami perubahan yang bersifat arbiter. Proses perubahan tersebut yakni penghilangan vokal, penggantian vocal, penghilangan suku kata terkahir, dan penyisipan konsonan vokal. Kata kunci: ragam,bahasa, prokem, sinetron.

Abstract

The cooperative principle proposes four maxims in communication. They are the maxims of Quantity, Quality, Relation and Manner. When any of the four maxims is violated or flouted, misunderstanding or implicature, and thus humor might be generated. This study attempts to describe theories in this framework to analyze the maxims violation on students’ humor of Students. This is a case study on sophisticated issue in the Students Group Page. It used qualitative study method to generate in-depth understanding about humor of Students Chitchat Page on Facebook through observing the humor which contradicts with the common sense. In Students Chitchat Page on Facebook the four maxims are flouted, violated, infringed, opted out or suspended, so that one remark of humor after another is created. Keywords: Cooperative Principle, Humor, Maxims.

Abstract

Toeic test is one of the requirements to graduate at State Polytechnic Bengkalis. To pass in Toeic test, some of students get difficulties to pass the passing grade. The aim of this study is to find out students’ difficulties in listening to Toeic tests and how to overcome the problem. This study found that students’ ability in listening comprehension on Toeic test was average category from 11 students by 36.7%. Then students ‘difficulties in Toeic tests Picture description (used similar sound answered agree by 50%), question response (the speech rate answered agree by 53.3%), short conversation (unfamiliar word answered strongly agree by 53.5%), short talks (can easily miss the text answered agree by 43.3%).

Abstract

This study aims to know the improvement of students’ grammar mastery by using Teacher Correction technique. The research method used was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research data included the results of the pretest and posttest regarding noun clauses. The data collection techniques used were classroom observation, interviews, pretest and posttest. The results of this study showed that the average score of students was 24.6 in pretest, increased from to in Cycle I to 39.2 in 69.2 II. It indicated that the use of Teacher Correction technique could improve students' understanding in mastering noun clauses. This technique can be one of effective ways for teachers or lecturers to teach noun clauses.
