Abstract

Bird pests such as sparrows, weavers, munias, and finches pose a serious problem for rice farmers, particularly during the generative growth stage when ripening panicles are easily consumed, causing yield losses of up to 30–50% and threatening food security. Traditional deterrent methods, including scarecrows, noise-making devices, and firecrackers, provide only temporary effects with limited coverage and require repetitive manual supervision that is both exhausting and inefficient. This study aims to design and develop an automatic bird repellent device based on sensors and a microcontroller, powered by an independent solar panel system, to protect rice crops effectively without continuous human monitoring. The research adopts a stepwise prototype development approach consisting of planning (designing a steel-pipe frame and selecting components such as an Arduino ATmega2560, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor, PIR sensor, tweeter speaker, 50 Wp solar panel, and 12 V 8 Ah battery), production (hardware assembly and Arduino C programming), testing (sensor–sound functionality and field operation), and performance evaluation through analysis of detection data and reduction in bird attacks. The results show that the device operates stably, with PIR detection up to 11 m, ultrasonic detection from 1–4 m, audiosonic output at 4069 Hz (84–91 dB), an effective repulsion radius of 14 m, and a reduction in bird attacks of about 90% (from 100 events to 3 events over six days), all using stand-alone solar energy without significant disturbances. The system is environmentally friendly, weather-resistant, and has the potential to improve rice farming productivity, with further recommendations including optimization of sensor positioning and enhanced protection against extreme weather conditions.

Abstract

Within the palm oil industry, the process of weighing and sorting Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) at the beginning of the supply chain is crucial for determining the price and quality of palm oil. However, PT RKM, a palm oil processing company in Aceh Singkil, faces challenges such as potential inaccuracies in weight measurement, quality classification, and long queues that can reduce operational efficiency. These issues have the potential to cause financial losses and production delays. The objective of this study is to measure and analyze the queuing system in the FFB weighing and sorting process at PT RKM. This research uses a queuing model approach to evaluate the current system's efficiency. Data were collected through direct observation and interviews, with 30 samples of truck arrival and service times. The analysis method used includes creating an Activity Cycle Diagram (ACD), calculating the average inter-arrival and service times, and determining system performance metrics such as average waiting time and server idle percentage.The results of the study show that the PT RKM queuing system operated optimally on the day of observation. The average queue waiting time was zero, and the percentage of idle servers (weighing facilities) was also zero. This indicates that the current service capacity is adequate for the volume of vehicle arrivals, thereby minimizing losses and improving overall productivity.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan memberdayakan galangan kapal tradisional di Aceh Barat guna meningkatkan kualitas produksi kapal. Industri ini merupakan warisan budaya penting, namun menghadapi tantangan signifikan, seperti kurangnya standar mutu, yang berdampak pada rendahnya daya tahan produk dan menurunnya daya saing. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan pendampingan partisipatif yang berfokus pada manajemen mutu sederhana, pemilihan bahan baku yang tepat, serta penerapan standar operasional prosedur (SOP) yang sesuai dengan kondisi lokal. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kualitas produk yang signifikan, terlihat dari konstruksi kapal yang lebih kokoh dan efisiensi penggunaan material. Para pengrajin kini mampu menghasilkan kapal yang lebih awet, yang secara langsung meningkatkan kepercayaan konsumen dan daya saing di pasar. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga berhasil menumbuhkan kesadaran kolektif tentang pentingnya menjaga mutu. Kesimpulannya, pemberdayaan berbasis pengetahuan ini merupakan strategi efektif untuk melestarikan industri tradisional. Disarankan untuk membentuk kelompok mandiri pengrajin dan menjalin kolaborasi dengan pemerintah agar dampak positif ini berkelanjutan dan dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat galangan kapal di Aceh Barat.

Abstract

Keterbukaan terhadap akses ke teknologi sering menjadi kendala bagi pengusaha lokal untuk terus maju dan berkembang. Pengusaha lokal yang merasakan kendala ini adalah mitra layanan pengiriman makanan online di kota Meulaboh yang bernama Send. Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh Send yaitu keterbatasan teknologi aplikasi layanan serta keterbatasan akses konsumen dan mitra usaha. Tujuan dilakukannya program pengabdian berbasis riset ini adalah memecahkan masalah mitra Send dengan menciptakan atau merancang sebuah teknologi aplikasi berbasis android yang open source di Google Playstore, dan dapat dengan mudah digunakan oleh pengguna. Secara garis besar, tahap mendesain aplikasi ini dimulai dengan membuat use case diagram, kemudian membuat diagram kelas, diagram aktivitas, dan akhirnya pengembangan antarmuka pengguna yang diterapkan untuk Android. Hasil perancangan aplikasi bernama Ojan dari pengabdian berbasis riset ini berhasil diuji coba pada beberapa smartphone Android. Fasilitas yang dihasilkan oleh aplikasi ini antara lain customer bisa langsung memesan makanan, admin bisa mengetahui lokasi customer, customer bisa mengetahui menu apa saja yang terbaru di warung, jangkauan wilayah pemasaran yang lebih luas, dan driver mengetahui lokasi pesanan dan pesanan apa saja yang sudah dipesan oleh konsumen.

Abstract

Community service activities are a medium for delivering science and technology to the community. This community service is carried out by a lecturer in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Teuku Umar University. The theme of this community service is the importance of promoting schools in order to increase the number of students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this community service is to provide an overview to the foundation about the importance of introducing the profile of the foundation to the surrounding community, and as an effort to increase the number of new students at the Makmue Raya Foundation. Participants in this community service are foundation administrators, teachers and students of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) under the auspices of the Makmue Raya foundation, totaling 83 people. Community service participants participated in the socialization in the form of lectures, discussions and questions and answers about the importance of school promotion during the COVID-19 pandemic. The output of this community service is as basic knowledge about school promotion to foundations, and can introduce school promotion methods during the covid-19 pandemic to foundations.

Abstract

Fish is one of the species that is in high demand by consumers, including in Aceh. Fish can be obtained by catching from abundant nature. Problems in processing fish catches in Aceh, especially Langkak Village, Kuala Pesisir District, Nagan Raya Regency is a conventional post-capture processing method, which is drying using the heat of sunlight. In this condition, fish drying has several disadvantages, which are related to dependence on sunlight heat, cleanliness, freshness of fish, and selling points. For this reason, there needs to be a way to implement simple technology that uses a fish fogging machine. The purpose of carrying out this community service program is to provide practical applications of the fish fogging technique by providing soft skills to members of the fishing group in the Village of Langkak Village, Kuala Pesisir District, Nagan Raya Regency. The results of community service activities have been going well, starting with socialization activities or theory to the practice or application of fish fogging. The achievement of community service activities is the transfer of knowledge about making fish fogging machines and the practice and application of fish fogging directly by the fishermen of Langkak Village. In addition, other results are a manual guide on fish fogging to get the optimal fish fogging results. This activity received a good response from the fishermen of Langkak Village who participated in the activity, because it was considered very useful and became a facility to empower fishermen and residents in general.

Abstract

This research aims to conduct a comprehensive literature review on the application of dynamic system simulation as a decision-making tool. This research is motivated by the complexity of modern problems that require appropriate analytical tools to support better decision-making. The method used in this research is a systematic literature review by following structured steps to ensure that this research is comprehensive and unbiased. The results of this study indicate that dynamic systems are powerful and relevant analytical tools across sectors. With its ability to model dynamic interactions and simulate future scenarios, dynamic systems can help stakeholders make better decisions and achieve more sustainable results in facing complex challenges in the modern era. This study also identifies several challenges in the application of dynamic system simulation, such as lack of awareness of its benefits, lack of expertise in building and analyzing simulation models, as well as limited in-depth research on its application in various contexts. Therefore, further research is needed to address these challenges and improve the application of dynamic system simulation in decision making.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi Additive Manufacturing khususnya Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) membuka peluang fabrikasi produk fungsional cepat, fleksibel, dan ekonomis tanpa cetakan konvensional. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengoptimalisasi desain dan parameter proses 3D printing FDM untuk Phone Hand Holder Multi Use berbahan PETG, mengevaluasi akurasi dimensi, kekasaran permukaan, dan kekuatan mekanik produk. Metode menggunakan pendekatan Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) dengan siklus iteratif CAD-prototipe-evaluasi. Desain dibuat SolidWorks/AutoCAD, dicetak Prusa I3 MK3 dengan parameter optimal (layer height 0,2 mm, infill 20%, suhu nozzle 200°C, bed 80°C, speed 50 mm/s, wall 1,2 mm). Evaluasi meliputi pengukuran mikrometer digital (n=3), profilometer kekasaran (Ra), uji beban statis 350 g, dan uji siklus engsel 100x dengan analisis statistik paired t-test dan ANOVA. Hasil menunjukkan desain final (panjang 8 cm, tinggi 5,5 cm, lebar 2 cm, ketebalan 5 mm) mencapai akurasi dimensi 97,5% dengan deviasi ±0,2–0,5 mm dalam toleransi FDM. Kekasaran permukaan pre-finishing 13,6 µm turun ke 7,6 µm post-amplas (44,1% improvement, p=0,006 signifikan). Produk mampu menopang beban 350 g tanpa deformasi, engsel berfungsi 100 siklus tanpa kerusakan, confirm ketebalan 5 mm dan infill 20% memadai untuk penggunaan normal. Revisi desain meningkatkan stabilitas dan ergonomi tanpa mengurangi efisiensi material. Penelitian menunjukkan FDM-PETG optimal untuk phone holder fungsional presisi tinggi dengan finishing amplas wajib.

Abstract

Abstrak - Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) pangan tradisional seperti Kue Karah memiliki peran penting bagi perekonomian lokal Aceh. UD. Langganan Abar Nara sebagai salah satu pelaku usaha pembuatan Kue Karah masih menerapkan proses produksi secara manual, sehingga menimbulkan pemborosan waktu, bahan, dan tenaga kerja yang cukup berarti. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi aktivitas tidak bernilai tambah (non-value added) pada proses produksi Kue Karah sekaligus menganalisis penerapan Lean Manufacturing dalam menekan aktivitas tersebut guna meningkatkan efisiensi produksi. Metode yang digunakan adalah Value Stream Mapping (VSM), dikombinasikan dengan Process Activity Mapping, identifikasi seven waste, analisis akar masalah 5 Why, serta usulan perbaikan Kaizen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari total waktu siklus produksi 3.086,4 detik, hanya 1.363 detik (44,16%) merupakan aktivitas bernilai tambah, sedangkan 1.723,4 detik (55,84%) adalah aktivitas non-value added, dengan pemborosan berupa delay (waiting) sebagai kontributor terbesar yakni 963 detik (66,26% dari total NVA). Berdasarkan analisis 5 Why, akar permasalahan utama adalah ketiadaan standar operasional prosedur pada proses persiapan alat. Usulan perbaikan Kaizen melalui penerapan 5S, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), perbaikan layout produksi, dan Quality at Source berhasil menurunkan total lead time dari 3.086,4 detik menjadi 2.713 detik (turun 12,10%) serta meningkatkan Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) dari 44,16% menjadi 50,24%. Hasil ini membuktikan bahwa penerapan Lean Manufacturing dengan VSM efektif meningkatkan efisiensi proses produksi Kue Karah pada UMKM. Kata Kunci: Lean Manufacturing; Value Stream Mapping; Efisiensi Produksi; UMKM; Kue Karah; Abstract - Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in traditional food production, such as Kue Karah, hold a significant role in sustaining the local economy of Aceh. UD. Langganan Abar Nara, one of the producers of Kue Karah, continues to rely on manual production processes, resulting in considerable waste of time, materials, and labor. This study aimed to identify non-value-added activities in the Kue Karah production process and to analyze the application of Lean Manufacturing in reducing such waste to improve production efficiency. The method employed was Value Stream Mapping (VSM), integrated with Process Activity Mapping, seven waste identification, 5 Why root cause analysis, and Kaizen improvement proposals. The findings revealed that of the total production cycle time of 3,086.4 seconds, only 1,363 seconds (44.16%) constituted value-added activities, while the remaining 1,723.4 seconds (55.84%) were non-value-added. Delay (waiting) emerged as the dominant waste contributor at 963 seconds (66.26% of total NVA). Root cause analysis through 5 Why indicated that the primary issue was the absence of standard operating procedures in equipment preparation. The proposed Kaizen improvements incorporating 5S, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), production layout redesign, and Quality at Source successfully reduced total lead time from 3,086.4 seconds to 2,713 seconds (a 12.10% reduction) and increased Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) from 44.16% to 50.24%. These results affirm that the application of Lean Manufacturing with VSM effectively enhances production efficiency in traditional food MSMEs.
