Abstract

This study used a rectilinear method in redesigning the layout of the salted fish production facility to minimize the mileage of Stefen Aluy's UKM. Stefen Aluy UKM is one of the salted fish businesses that is developing in West Aceh and its products are evenly distributed in West Aceh and its surroundings. The large production area makes it easier for UKM Stefen Aluy to maximize salted fish production. However, the large production area owned by UKM Stefen Aluy can result in long distances so that it is ineffective and efficient. The risk of worker fatigue and injury can occur due to the long distance. In addition, there is a risk of raw materials falling while moving. To minimize this potential, it is necessary to evaluate the layout of the salted fish production facilities at UKM Stefen Aluy, namely by improving the layout of the facilities. The rectilinear method can be used to minimize mileage in making layout improvements. From the results of the layout mapping based on the measurement of the rectilinear distance, the initial layout has a rectilinear distance of 6.932 cm, while the layout of the design results obtained a rectilinear distance of 3.409 cm. The result of the layout redesign resulted in a distance reduction of 49.04% from the previous distance.

Abstract

Stress is a psychological response that occurs when someone faces pressure or demands that exceed their ability to adapt. In the context of a final-year student, stress is often a significant problem due to academic pressure, such as completing final assignments, as well as demands to immediately prepare to enter the workforce and demands to immediately prepare to enter the workforce. Research shows that stress that is not managed properly can cause various negative effects, such as sleep disorders and decreased cognitive function. This study aimed to identify and analyze stress levels among final-year students who completed a final report by integrating physiological and psychological data. In this study, 30 students were assessed using a wearable system to obtain physiological data, such as heart rate and body temperature, while subjective assessments were carried out using the NASA-TLX method to measure mental workload. The results showed that 19 out of 30 respondents experienced significant levels of stress and 11 respondents were in normal conditions, with the main causal factors including high academic pressure and distance regarding the future. In addition, the logistic regression analysis applied in this study succeeded in developing a predictive model with an accuracy of 94% in identifying students' stress conditions. This shows that this method is sufficiently accurate for detecting stress symptoms in final-year students.

Abstract

Repetitive work involving lifting heavy loads over long distances and non-ergonomic working postures can lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This problem is commonly found in coffee factories, particularly during the coffee bean grinding process, where two main activities are performed: the first is taking coffee beans from the ground, and the second is lifting the coffee beans to the grinding machine. The task of taking coffee beans from the ground involves a bent posture to collect them from a non-ergonomic coffee storage box. Meanwhile, in the task of lifting the beans to the grinding machine, workers must carry 25 kg of coffee over a distance of 8 meters. The purpose of this study was to evaluate work posture using the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) and Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) methods. Six operators were observed at the coffee bean grinding station. The results show that three operators who perform the task of collecting beans from the ground received a category 3 score using the OWAS method, indicating that corrective action should be taken as soon as possible. In the task of lifting beans to the grinding machine, three operators received a score of 4 according to the OWAS method, also indicating that immediate corrective action is necessary. Based on the REBA method, three operators scored 10, classified as a high-risk level (action level 3), while the other three scored 11, indicating a very high-risk level. Based on these findings, it is necessary to provide ergonomic coffee storage boxes that accommodate workers’ posture in coffee factories and are easy to move according to the workers’ needs, to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Abstract

Soldier’s activities resulted in too much workload received by the body, especially in the back and waist. These conditions produce a high risk of musculoskeletal disorders especially if conducted continuously. The soldiers must carry a backpack containing supplies during training weighing up to 40 kg on average. All activities are conducted manually until the training is finish. Thus, the purposes of this study are to reduce spinal injury by identifying factors resulting from lifting loads that exceed the limits of the body, calculate the maximum load limit that can be carried by a soldier, and produce artificial exoskeleton as a tool for the Indonesian Armed Forces. The study used anthropometry, biomechanics, and physiological approach in solving the problem. The results show that the safe load can be carried by the soldiers is 30.46 kg. The body parts that feel the complaint are the upper neck, back, shoulder, buttocks. In addition, this study can produce a design of an artificial exoskeleton with the following dimensions: chest thickness 23 cm, chest width 32 cm, back length 52 cm. The soldiers can increase the force load by 9% of the initial weight of the load using this design.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the vibration exposure experienced by workers in the Urea Granulation Screen Unit (UGSU) at the fertilizer factory in Aceh, Indonesia. This study involved 30 labors in charge as operators, mechanical maintenance officers, electrical maintenance officers, instrument maintenance officers, and inspectors. The measurement of vibration was carried out using a Triaxial Accelerometer with Integral Magnet and shows that the vibration exposure on the factory floor of the urea granulation screen unit occurs vertically with a minimum value of 0.298 m/s2 and a maximum of 1.630 m/s2. According to ISO 2631-1:1997, the maximum vibration values that occur are categorized as a likely health risk zone and result in uncomfortable reactions to the workers. Furthermore, this study analyzes the effect of vibrations on musculoskeletal problems using a Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. It reveals that the average score of musculoskeletal complaints is 71.6, which defines a high degree of pain. The results of the NBM questionnaire also showed that the vulnerable part of the body which experienced musculoskeletal complaints is the knee. The result of vibration exposure on this body part shows the highest value of 3.437 m/s2. To minimize occupational diseases and accidents, it is necessary to manage a working system that takes into account legal standards, ideal working time, and working shifts in the work area.
