Abstract

This study aims to respond the regulation of teaching and learning English in higher education. Since there is no clear regulation of what supposed to be taught, some institutions decide different requirement for the teaching and learning English. This study focused on analyzing and evaluating the students’ actual needs in learning English. A quantitative study was conducted toward 113 non-English department students who have taken English subject in an Islamic University in Jambi. This study explored both of the students’ actual needs and experiences of their learning English in the classroom. The results indicate that having the four skills as a part of teaching and learning English in the classroom is important for the students. The students also mentioned that completing their study is not the only reason to learn English. They believe that learning English is a golden key to be a part of world class community. In spite of mastering reading as the main focus of learning process, the students still face difficulties in understanding the ideas in English since they have limited vocabulary and grammar. They also stated that it is hard for them to get the meaning of what they read because they do not know how the sentences are put together. As the results, it is suggested that the process of teaching and learning English must be revisited

Abstract

Pendidikan anak usia merupakan pondasi awal dalam mengembangkan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak. Pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak sendiri telah diatur dalam peraturan menteri Pendidikan no 146 tahun 2014 yang sering disebut standar pencapaian perkembangan anak. Perkembangan motorik merupakan perkembangan dari unsur kematangan dan pengendalian gerakan tubuh yang erat kaitannya dengan perkembangan pusat motorik di otak. Media Kreatif adalah suatu pengantar komunikasi yang dapat meneruskan suatu informasi (pesan) antar sumber (pemberi pesan) dan penerima pesan melalui penjabaran daya dan upaya yang unik dalam menciptakan solusi dari suatu permasalahan dalam ranah komunikasi visual. Pada PAUD Mutiara bunda Desa Sumber Makmur kabupaten ogan komering ulu selatan,dengan pembelajaran disana yang masih sangat terbatas sehingga penulis tertarik untuk memberikan pembelajaran yang belum pernah mereka dapatkan sebelumnya yaitu dengan memberikan metode belajar dengan media kreatif untuk mengembangkan motorik pada Anak Usia Dini ( AUD ) yaitu menggunakan Metode media pohon angka. Adapun tujuan kegiatan yang dilaksanakan melalui Kuliah Kerja Nyata tematik meningkatkan kemampuan pengembangan motorik pada Anak Usia Dini (AUD) di PAUD Mutiara Bunda di Desa Sumber Makmur.Dari hasil yang didapatkan Anak-anak PAUD Mutiara Bunda Desa Sumber Makmur terlihat sangat senang dan bersemangat saat dilakukan kegiatan tersebut menarik perhatian anak sehingga dapat menumbuhkan motivasi mereka untuk belajar, setelah adanya kegiatan tersebut anak- anak lebih aktif dan juga dengan adanya metode ini.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat merupakan salah satu bentuk tri dharma perguruan tinggi. Tujuan dari pengabdian masyarakat adalah menerapkan ilmu pengetahuan yang dimiliki oleh seorang dosen atau hasil dari penelitian yang dilakukan dosen. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan membuat sebuah aplikasi berbasis android untuk mengolah data keuangan kas masjid. Dengan adanya aplikasi ini dapat membantu masjid dalam mengelola dan melaporkan keuangan masjid secara transfaran kepada para Jemaah melalui sebuah perangkat smarthphone. Dalam merancang dan membuat aplikasi ini diterapkan metode pengembangan sistem rapid application development (RAD). Pembuatan aplikasi android ini dibantu sebuah perangkat lunak android studio yang memudahkan dalam proses pengembangannya. Aplikasi yang dihasilkan berupa aplikasi kas masjid berbasis android yang diberikan kepada takmir masjid sebagai bentuk pengabdian dari dosen untuk memenuhi salah satu tri dharma perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

PAUD atau Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini merupakan salah satu tempat yang dapat membantu tumbuh kembang anak. Hal ini sebagaimana termuat didalam peraturan menteri pendidikan yang biasa disebut sebagai standar pencapaian perkembangan anak, no 145 tahun 2014. Finger Painting, dipilih sebagai media yang dapat digunakan dan diterapkan di PAUD untuk membantu mengembangkan motorik halus pada anak usia dini, khususnya pada PAUD Mandiri Desa Suka Negeri Kecamatan Banding Agung. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui Kuliah Kerja Nyata tematik dan memiliki tujuan untuk peningkatan kemampuan pengembangan motorik halus pada Anak Usia Dini (AUD) di PAUD Mandiri Desa Suka Negeri. Hasil dari kegiatan ini didapatkan bahwa anak PAUD Mandiri Desa Suka Negeri terlihat sangat bahagia dan penuh semangat saat dilaksanakan kegiatan ini, dan menarik perhatian sehingga bisa menumbuhkan motivasi anak-anak untuk belajar, setelah kegiatan tersebut anak- anak PAUD lebih aktif.

Abstract

The gap between students’ learning level and their level of writing prompted this classroom action research (CAR). E-learning was chosen as a media for students to enhance their understanding in producing a good piece of writing. The results showed that integrating e-learning in writing class contributed to the improvement of students’ writing. E-learning fulfilled the need of extended activities to accelerate students’ comprehension which resulted in their writing achievement. Students who actively participated in e-learning based teaching and learning activities showed a better writing performance in terms of organizing ideas. They also become more active during the classroom discussion due to their awareness of their writing problems.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the language style using the theory of Martin Joos. This study aims to find out the kinds of language styles used in movie and to identify the dominant language style used by the main characters in the movie. This study used the descriptive method. The data were collected through utterances of major characters in the movie. The results show two main points. The first finding relates to the kind of language styles used in the movie; formal style, casual style, consultative style, and Intimate style. The second finding is the dominant language style; casual style and intimate style. In accordance with the findings, the researchers would like to suggest to further researchers to analyze other elements of language style, such as the functions language style.

Abstract

Although the demand for mastering English is getting higher, the student’s achievement fell short of expectation. Several empirical studies indicated that one of the sources of the students’ lack in English achievement was the teachers’ qualification. There had been schools that let the teachers with non-English Education backgrounds teach English at schools. As the researchers concerned this phenomenon, this study aimed to seek the relationship between the teachers’ educational background and the students’ English learning achievement. The research design was a correlation study. The sample of the study was chosen purposively. The samples were chosen from 3 Private Islamic junior high schools in Jambi city Indonesia with A accreditation status. 244 eighth graders and 4 English teachers participated in this study. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and unobtrusive measures of the students’ English achievement. The result of the coefficient correlation between teachers’ educational background and students’ achievement was r=0.032. It means that those variables were positively correlated. However, r=0.032 was considered low correlation. This study hopefully contributes to the school. It’s important that the principals or policy maker of schools facilitate all teachers’ activities which contribute to the development of their professionalism.

Abstract

This study aimed to see the effect of language environment programs which has been common in Islamic boarding school in Jambi, on students speaking performance. Through an ex post facto research design, the researchers would like to find out whether there is a significant difference between the students' speaking performance of those who involve in language environment programs and that of those who do not involve in the programs. Thirty-second graders of As’ ad Senior High Islamic Boarding School were selected purposively as the samples of the study. The results of the independent-sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference in the results of speaking performance for the students who were involved in language environment programs (M= 15.4, SD = 1.08891), and for those who did not involve in language environment programs (M= 9.3, SD= 1.04881; p=0.000). Besides, the students involved in the programs are considered better in terms of fluency than the students who do not involve in the programs.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan untuk membantu pencegahan penyebaran virus Covid-19 kepada masyarakat yang belum memahami tentang bahaya virus tersebut. Hal ini dilakukan pada masyarakat Desa Surabaya Timur Kecamatan Banding Agung. Kegiatan pengabdian ini memberikan edukasi tentang Covid-19 dan pencegahannya dengan mendatangi langsung warga desa. Kegiatan ini dilaukan kepada 34 KK yang tersebar pada desa tersebut. Edukasi ini disertai dengan penempelan stiker dan pemberikan masker sehingga masyarakat paham tentang Covid-19 dan pencegahannya. Berdasarkan evaluasi yang dilakukan bahwa masyarakat mulai menggunakan masker untuk melakukan kegiatan diluar rumah dimana sebelumnya beberapa masrayakat acuh untuk menggunakan masker. Masyarakat juga telah memilih untuk berada didalam rumah jika tidak ada keperluan yang mendesak untuk dilakukan diluar rumah seperti bertani atau kepasar.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTidak dapat dipungkiri, Pandemi COVID-19 membawa perubahan besar dalam segala aspek kehidupan.  Proses kegiatan  pembelajaran dikelas menjadi salah satu aspek yang terkena dampak yang sangat signifikan. Proses  pembelajaran  online menjadi strategi jitu untuk memfasilitasi kegiatan belajar mengajar  dalam situasi merebaknya wabah   virus Covid- 19 yang mematikan.  Banyak yang siap, tetapi tidak sedikit pula yang merasa kewalahan. Menanggapi fenomena tersebut, tim pengabdian  melakukan kegiatan pelatihan persiapan pembelajaran  online  berbasis   Schoology . Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan secara  online dalam bentuk virtual meeting/webinar menggunakan aplikasi zoom meeting.   Sebanyak 64 peserta   yang aktif mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan  persiapan ini. Ke-64 peserta tersebut didominasi oleh guru dan guru magang. Selama kegiatan berlangsung, peserta pelatihan mengikuti kegiatan dengan antusias, hal ini terlihat  dari keaktifan peserta yang dapat bertahan mengikuti kegiatan  online hingga kegiatan selesai, serta antusias peserta dalam mengikuti sesi tanya jawab.  Hasil evaluasi melalui angket juga menunjukan bahwa kegiatan ini memberikan manfaat yang besar dalam membantu guru-guru mempersiapkan proses pembelajaran online.   Para peserta mendapat wawasan baru terkait penggunaan  Schoology sebagai Learning Management System  atau wadah pembelajaran online yang ramah  bagi siswa dan guru. Kata kunci: pembelajaran online; schoology; learning management system ABSTRACTIt is undeniable that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant changes in all aspects of life. The process of learning activities in the classroom is one aspect that has a very significant impact. The online learning process is a surefire strategy to facilitate teaching and learning activities during the outbreak of the deadly Covid-19 virus. Many are ready, but not a few are feeling overwhelmed. Responding to this phenomenon, the service team conducted training activities for online learning preparation based on Schoology. This activity is done online via a virtual meeting/webinar using the Zoom meeting application. A total of 64 participants actively participated in this preparatory training activity. Teachers and preservice teachers dominated the 64 participants. During the activity, the training participants participated enthusiastically; this could be seen from the activeness of the participants who could survive online activities until the activity was completed, as well as the participants' enthusiasm in participating in the question and answer session. The evaluation results through the questionnaire also showed that this activity provided significant benefits in helping teachers prepare for the online learning process. The participants got new insights regarding using Schoology as a Learning Management System or a friendly online learning platform for students and teachers. Keywords: pembelajaran online; schoology; learning management system
